1. How old are you and what state do you live in?
I am 41 and live in NC.
2. When did you become a member of TYT?
I signed up soon after TYT initiated memberships, sometime in late 2005 I think.
3. How do you consume the show?
I usually download the main show podcast to listen while driving or working around the house.
4. What field do you work in?
I am a chemical engineer working for a company that provides contract engineering services to industrial customers.
5. How would you describe TYT in 5 words or less?
Making Politics Entertaining and Understandable
6. Do you have a favorite TYT moment?
I would say the famous Dick Morris walk-out during an interview.
7. Who is your favorite co-host? Why?
It’s always been Ben. I was very disappointed when he left as a regular co-host. He offers a rational check on Cenk’s sometimes over-exuberance. His under-stated dry wit is highly entertaining.
8. What motivated you to take the extra step of becoming a paying member?
I felt TYT was offering the best political analysis around and wanted to make sure I had access to the archived podcasts of shows I missed.
9. Are surprised that the The Young Turks has grown into a multiplatform network of multiple channels?
Yes, I never would have guessed that such a diverse array of programming was possible from the original skeleton crew of TYT.
10. Cenk often talks about the TYT brand as “truth telling.” What does this mean to you as a member?
It means that TYT respects me as a viewer enough to make an effort to relay important stories as they are and not as an effort to confirm what I already believe.
11. Which TYT host would you get coffee with? Which one would you go to the bar with? Who would you have dinner with?
I would get coffee with Cenk. With the caffeine to perk his mood, hopefully it would be all fun stories.
I would go to the bar with Ben. I imagine that after a few drinks, Ben has some interesting and funny stories to tell.
I would have dinner with Michael Shure. We would need the extended time to cover the depth and nuance Michael brings to any subject.
12. If you were a co-host on the show, which story would you cover? Why?
I would probably try to emphasize the gravity of upcoming climate change in particular and the willful ignorance of science in general by legislators.
13. Have you ever communicated with other TYT fans? If so, how?
Only from chance meetings when I wear my TYT t-shirt out. I am always impressed how often people recognize and comment on the shirt.
14. Has the show convinced you to change your position on a particular issue?
TYT provided real world examples and hard data that illuminated the real issues experienced by racial minorities in America that were previously obscured to me by my racially homogeneous upbringing.
15. Have you ever referred membership to anyone? If so, what did you say?
I find myself often implicitly referring the show by beginning a sentence with “On TYT, they were talking about…”
