1. How old are you and what state do you live in?
I’m 44 and live in California (just like Cenk).
2. When did you become a member of TYT?
Since October of 2007.
3. How do you consume the show?
I watch the previous day’s show on the archives, either on my desktop at home or my iPhone at work. It would be nice if the shows would be in the archives as soon as they’re over. I can’t watch live because I’m usually carpooling around that time.
4. What field do you work in?
Law enforcement. I’m a mechanic who works on police cars.
5. How would you describe TYT in 5 words or less?
Keeping it real.
6. Do you have a favorite TYT moment?
One particular rant by Cenk about religion that summed up how I also feel about religion. I wish I could remember the date, I’d like to see it again.
7. Who is your favorite co-host? Why?
Ben. Why? He has a calm that balances Cenk, he is smart and funny in a very subdued way. His reasonable approach to any topic embodies my idea of who the Young Turks are.
8. What motivated you to take the extra step of becoming a paying member?
I wanted to ensure that TYT stayed around as long as possible. There are so many memberships one could pay for but none would be as important as TYT.
9. Are surprised that the The Young Turks has grown into a multiplatform network of multiple channels?
I’m not surprised at the level of success, but the variety of different channels surprises me. I guess I’m a fuddy-duddy, but I still prefer the original show.
10. Cenk often talks about the TYT brand as “truth telling.” What does this mean to you as a member?
Whenever I hear something on TYT, I know it’s not just hype. On other progressive shows, my time is wasted by me needing to go and fact check everything or take it with a grain of salt. And much better than right wing shows which are riddled with inaccuracies that I already know are untrue, that go unchecked.
11. Which TYT host would you get coffee with? Which one would you go to the bar with? Who would you have dinner with?
Cenk, Cenk, Cenk.
12. If you were a co-host on the show, which story would you cover?
Well, I’m a vegetarian so anything animal or agriculture related interests me. I also love cars, and there is a dearth of automotive coverage or knowledge on TYT.
13. Have you ever communicated with other TYT fans? If so, how?
I have met one friend at the No Apologies event in San Francisco this year. I live 2 hours away from any major cities so I haven’t made it to any other functions. Yet.
14. Has the show convinced you to change your position on a particular issue?
Yes, it has on many. TYT includes information that mainstream outlets leave out to keep from offending viewers, critics, or sponsors. I like how the hosts can disagree with each other. It makes me feel much more informed in my decision making.
15. Have you ever referred membership to anyone? If so, what did you say?
I have tried, but few people want to go through the trouble to find it on the web or sit and listen to in-depth coverage of stories they can catch as a blurb on TV. They’ll never know as much as I do about a given subject, but TV is still the easiest medium for a lot of people. When TYT was on Current, I had my sister in law watching. I still share Wolf PAC posts on Facebook, because they are non-partisan and hard to argue against. Even my right-wing family and friends often like them!
