1. How old are you, and where do you live?
I live in the Philly suburbs of PA
2. When did you become a member of TYT?
Probably 5-10 years ago
3. How do you consume the show?
Podcast (Downcast on iPhone usually)
4. What field do you work in?
I am a veterinarian
5. How would you describe TYT in 5 words or less?
Very liberal, dedicated, persistent
6. Do you have a favorite TYT moment?
Probably but I can’t think of any off the top of my head. Love it when Jayar chimes in.
7. Who is your favorite co-host? Why?
@BenMank77. Because he was Cenk’s original co-host and is a great foil. Cenk is like a sledgehammer, Ben is the velvet glove. After Ben, probably Jimmy Dore because Jimmy is just funny as hell in intelligent and perceptive in a street smart kind of way.
8. What motivated you to take the extra step of becoming a paying member?
$10/month is not a huge commitment to me and it allows me to enjoy all the content whenever I want. Also, I don’t have a problem financially supporting news and entertainment sources that I think are important. I subscribe to Jimmy Dore’s show. To This American Live. To the New York Times and to Washington Monthly. And so on.
9. Are surprised that the The Young Turks has grown into a multiplatform network of multiple channels?
Surpised? No. Cenk is committed to his brand.
10. Cenk often talks about the TYT brand as “truth telling.” What does this mean to you as a member?
To be honest, Cenk is probably way more liberal than I am. But to give you an example: I volunteered for Obama’s campaign in 2008 because I really believed that he would change the political climate in DC. I did not support Hillary because (1) I thought the Clintons carried too much political baggage and (2) because Bill’s last acts as president effectively repealed Glass Steagall. When Obama was elected during the financial crisis and kept Bernanke, hired Tim Geithner to run Treasury and Larry Summers for his Council of Economic Advisers, I knew that we had been duped. Change? What name so? Cenk has been all over this since the early days of the Obama Administration.
11. Which TYT host would you get coffee with? Which one would you go to the bar with? Who would you have dinner with?
Coffee with Michael Shure, bar with Jimmy Dore, dinner with Ben Mankiewicz. (Cenk is coming to all of these, right?)
12. If you were a co-host on the show, which story would you cover? Why?
Israel-Palestine. Why? Because Cenk is so stridently anti-Israel that a balancing voice would be helpful. Ben does sometimes. (I find it irritating when Cenk goes off for 40 minutes against Israel, then spends 90 seconds explaining correctly how Hamas basically brought all the horror rained on Gaza on themselves and considers himself balanced and even handed.)
13. Have you ever communicated with other TYT fans? If so, how?
Other than my older kids (21 and 19), no.
14. Has the show convinced you to change your position on a particular issue?
Probably but I can’t think of anything specific now.
15. Have you ever referred membership to anyone? If so, what did you say?
No.
