DC Comics Denies Dying Child’s Wish

“Many of us here on ComicBookMovie have a favourite superhero, and maybe it’s because we see virtues of ourselves in these characters, or perhaps it’s because we see something to strive towards. Still, I think that everyone on this site can sympathize with young Jeffrey Baldwin.

Young Jeffrey was a huge fan of Superman, and unfortunately at the age of five, his young life was taken by his grandparents. Jeffrey was kept locked inside a cold bedroom, devoid of toys, and hadlittle to no access to food. Jeffrey died of starvation on Nov. 30, 2002. His grandparents were convicted of second-degree murder in 2006.

‘He wanted to fly,” Richard Baldwin said. ‘He tried jumping off the chair. We had to make him stop. He dressed up (as Superman) for Halloween one year … He was so excited. I have that picture at home hanging on my wall. He was our little man of steel.'” *

  1. What did the parents do to loose custody of the little gaffer?? So damned cute. The Grandparents leave him tied up in the basement?/ What happened to them i hope they are in a jail with no toilet. The parents probably abused him. If it were my emblem they wanted him to wear. He is dead he does not know the difference. I would not want it to be a part of their F ed up service. I would say noway either. If i were in charge the child would have a normal funneral service. I would not be looking for my 15 minutes of fame !!Peace!!!

  2. I’d just like to point out that this is not “denying a dying child’s request”. The child died before this request was made. It was a request by the father for a memorial.
The (odious) phrase “denying a dying child’s request” normally describes a situation in which a child knows they are dying, and requests some boon; going to Disneyland, meeting their hero, going for a helicopter ride…whatever. Denying that request (and crushing the dying child’s dream) is heartless and cruel.
    That’s not what happened here.
