As a member of the Christian left and long time fan of TYT, it breaks my heart to hear an entire group of people spoken about with such disdain. You cannot teach tolerance by being intolerant. I do read my Bible….which is exactly why I’m a Democrat/independent. If Aaron was half the scholar he portrayed himself to be then he would know that the laws of the old testament are no longer in practice after Christ died on the cross.. Hence the term Christianity. So the only people he is actually bad mouthing are orthodox Jews. Secondly…most of those laws were created in order to keep one’s self clean and free of disease. Before a we knew about germs or contagiousness…. We had the bible telling us to wash our hands and not to cut ourselves purposefully. Those laws seem ridiculous now but at the time no one knew that you could die from a simple infection or even what an infection was. And lastly…even pat Robertson knows that the bibles time frame has been lost in translation somewhere and for the most part Christians no longer subscribe to the “earth is 6000 yrs old” theory. If you want the misinformed Christians to come around to your way of thinking then I would suggest a more tolerant approach.
Jesus dug the old testament “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17 NAB)
Yes…he fulfilled it. I’m sure in 2000 years our own laws will seem quite medieval. Regardless… You can’t use them in the context he uses them BC we do not and have not ever followed those laws under Christ.
As someone who is a Christian, a Democrat, and loves the TYT I can’t say I’m not surprised that there is an aethist on here. However, I find it sad that Aaron would just sit back and take certain passages out of context and try (and very poorly I might add) to mock Christianity. I think a better verse taken in context to use against your fundamentalist neighbors would be 1 Cor. 5:12-13 “What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.” Taken in context this is a much better passage to use the next time a fundy trys to judge you.
I recently watched Noah. Ironically of course. I like how they portray him as a deranged baby killing sociopath.
