Child Pornography in Manga Comics Finally Banned

“Japan’s parliament voted on Wednesday to outlaw possession of child pornography after years of international calls for a crackdown, but avoided a clampdown on sexually explicit manga comics and animation depicting young children.

Japan is the last OECD nation to criminalize possession of child pornography, although it outlawed production and distribution in 1999, and has long been considered a safe haven for those buying child pornography.

‘For too long, there was a poor understanding of children’s rights. Ultimately, that’s why it’s taken so long,’ Kiyohiko Toyama, a member of the New Komeito party and a proponent of the bill, told Reuters.

‘By outlawing the possession of child pornography with the intent to satisfy sexual interest, we make it harder for people to trade in such material.'”* Cenk Uygur (http://www.twitter.com/cenkuygur) and Gina Grad (http://www.twitter.com/ginagrad. Pretty Good Podcast) discuss.

  1. I totally understand the child pornography ban, but banning anime and other free thoughts of ideas and imagination will make us no better then the book burners of Nazi Germany. Besides, who will be the people that will be deciding which anime is legal and which one is not. The supreme court has ruled time and time again that censoring fantasy content is unconstitutional and is not illegal for consenting adults to view. I am a huge fan of cruchyroll.com and would cringe to think that their site would be at risk because of some limped dicked bureaucrat can’t understand the difference between fantasy and reality.

  2. I understand what you are saying, but when people are getting out their child porn fantasies on DRAWINGS, that is a lot safer than acting out on it in reality.
