Mad Men returns with season 7, episode 4, “The Monolith.” 2001: A Space Odyssey makes its debut, as does a computer at SCDP. Peggy is reluctantly put in charge of a project, with Don as a subordinate. As she fears she or Don is being set up to fail, it looks like Don is especially set up for failure, as references to his glory days are made while he slides into a diminished form in many ways. Will Lou succeed in pushing Don out, especially after he gets sloshed drunk? Roger tries the alternate hippie commune lifestyle, but as his experience with his daughter shows, he’s not really ready for it, and neither is the model of parenthood. Can Don and Roger, former kings, even survive to the 1970s?
