‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin vs Religious Bigots

“No one can make the case for gay marriage quite like a pro wrestler can. And wrestling fans are now circulating some pretty unfiltered comments Stone Cold Steve Austin made on his podcast months ago about why he doesn’t “give a shit” about people’s sexuality, he just wants them treated equally. He said, “I believe that any human being in America, or any human being in the goddamn world, that wants to be married, and if it’s same-sex, more power to ’em.”

He also found it stunning how churches get to lecture people about their sexuality being a lifestyle, asking, “Which one of these motherfuckers talked to God, and God said that same-sex marriage was a no-can-do?”

And beyond that, Austin’s not happy with the hypocrisy over sinful behavior and redemption in organized religion.”* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

  1. I respect anyone’s views on gay marriage, but for the non-religious to tell Christians what is or is not in the Bible is pretty annoying, especially considering they clearly have never read it or understand it. Steve, “Genesis 2:24 – Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” The Bible also makes multiple references in both the Old and New Testament that homosexuality is sinful. It is not theologically in doubt that ‘gay marriage’ is impossible. To the news anchors, the references to Leviticus and shellfish are not an instance of ‘picking parts to comply with’ and ignoring others, but Jesus clearly stated in Mark 7:18 (NIV) “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him ‘unclean’?” Also Matthew 6:25 (NIV) “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”. Clearly, then, Jesus has replaced the old law with a new one. However with marriage, Jesus did not give us any new laws, meaning the old ones still apply. It’s a simple system of precedence, not unlike common law legal systems. Please actually learn the Bible before spouting nonsense.

    1. I don’t believe your silly little rulebook, why should I have to abide by it? I have read the bible and it is garbage. I am sick of bigots using an ancient book, with immoral rules, about a magic imaginary friend, whom they worship, as an excuse to tell other people what to do. Try using arguments based in reality, not your fictional book.

    2. Please, stop forcing your thoughts and beliefs on others. A book written 3000 years ago shouldn’t dictate what people can and cannot do. In the words of Steve, did you actually talk to your God? No? Then, stop acting like you’re speaking for him. Live your life and we’ll live ours.

    3. This is the same book that talks about how shellfish are “detestable” (Leviticus 11:9-12). Oh, I hope you don’t like sports, as one of the next verses talks about how pigs are not allowed to be eaten, and their carcasses are not allowed to be touched. (Leviticus 11:8) Also, don’t each camels, badgers, rabbits, eagles, vultures, crows, falcons, ravens, buzzards ostriches, owls, seagulls, hawks, pelicans, storks, herons, bats, winged insects that walk on four legs except for ones that have joints to jump similar to grasshoppers, bear, mole, mouse, lizard, gecko, crocodile, chameleon, and snail.

I hope you’ve never had sex and tried to avoid getting someone pregnant (by any means). That is worthy of being smote. (Genesis 38:9-10)

Better not wear polyester or any fabric blends. (Leviticus 19:19)

If you ever meet someone who had their testicles crushed/removed or penis cut off, you better make sure they aren’t in the church with you, as they are not worthy to join the assembly of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 23:1) Oh, and if you know one of these people and they have a kid (from pre-genitalia mutilation), you should inform your church that the next 10 generations of that man’s offspring are not allowed within the church either. (Deuteronomy 23:2)

If you know someone who works on the Sabbath, it is your job to put them to death. (Exodus 31:15).

Does your kid not obey you or your mother? Then take him to the elder of the city, and all of the men shall gather together to stone the kid to death. (Deuteronomy 21:18-21)

Did you know that women were not created for God, but that they were created for man? Did you also know that if you pray or prophesize with your head covered as man, you are dishonoring yourself? It is disgraceful for a man to have long hair as well. It is a disgrace for women to not have long hair, though, as nature shows that women should keep their heads covered. After all, her hair is given to her as a covering, whereas a man’s is not. (Corinthian 11:2-16)

If a man marries a woman and decides he does not like her, he can claim she wasn’t a virgin when they were married. If her father is unable to produce the bloody sheets from her losing her virginity, then the woman shall be stoned to death at her father’s footstep. (Deuteronomy 22:13-21)

Your children better not make fun of someone for being bald, otherwise bear might kill them and all of their friends. (Kings 2:2)

Let’s look at something that doesn’t deal with laws that you should live by. Let’s look at the story of the Red Sea. Thousands of Jews were enslaved by the pharaoh. There is no historical evidence of this in the first place. At least we’ve found evidence that supports a flood happening around the time of Noah’s Ark. Moses approaches the pharaoh and says, “Let my people go”. The Bible then goes into one of the most disgustingly psychopathic punishments in the history of mankind. God doesn’t punish only the pharaoh. God doesn’t help Moses convince the pharaoh to free the people. No. God decides that unleashing plagues and killing millions of people is better. All waters in Egypt turned to blood, and all of the fish died. Frogs infest Egypt. Lice infest man and beast. This one isn’t that odd, because it was actually odd to NOT have lice in that time period. A cloud of insects attacks the people. A pestilence strikes the live stock. Honestly, after the blood water, lice, frogs, and insect storms, this was probably more an act of mercy than anything else. Boils are next. Thunder, hail, and fire comes after that. Then come the locusts. I’m guessing the locusts were to feed the frogs. Then darkness for three days. I guess this one was so that you couldn’t see how horrible everything was around you? Number ten, the first born Egyptian child of each family dies. Yep. This is a big one. These are 100% innocent children. This isn’t the pharaoh. These aren’t just the people who owned slaves. These aren’t just the citizens of Egypt themselves (including the ones that didn’t own slaves). No. This is full, unabated murder.

Through the course of the Bible, God gets enraged at people and, instead of directly handling the problematic person, he kills millions of people as collateral damage.

This is the word of the Bible. There is nothing blasphemous in my post. By his own word, he has slaughtered more innocent people than any other creature in history. And this book is supposed to be a moral compass?

I don’t need a book to tell me that I shouldn’t just go around killing and harming people. Yet the Bible tells me that if I see someone who is doing some random task that doesn’t hurt another human in any way, shape, or form, I should drop whatever I’m doing and bludgeon them to death.

No thanks. I’ll keep my humanity.
