“Lady Gaga’s charity is allegedly conducting some shady business.

The diva’s Born This Way Foundation is under suspicion of spending way more than it donates, reports Fox News.

The family organization, with Gaga as director, her mother Cynthia as president, and dad Joseph as treasurer, reportedly claimed $2.66 million in revenue for 2012. But apparently more than half of that, $1.85 million to be exact, went to operational expenses.”* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

  1. $50,000 for social media is not that absurd. Salary info in that tax report wouldn’t include outside contractors, so if they used a non-salaried contractor to handle social media, then that could cover that $50,000. $300,000 on consulting could be a lot of things — this is their first year, so setting up is going to be a large portion of the expenses. Legal fees — when you are setting up a charity, making sure you are doing so legally is probably pretty expensive in the first year or years. I agree the $800,000 in “other” is weird, but let’s see what happens in year two.
