“The northern New Jersey honor student who sued to get her parents monetary support her after she moved out of their home had her initial request denied Tuesday.
The judge ruled against 18-year-old Rachel Canning, cautioning that the case could lead to a “potentially slippery slope” of claims by teenagers against their parents.
“Are we going to open the gates for 12-year-olds to sue for an Xbox? For 13-year-olds to sue for an iPhone?” State Superior Court Judge Peter Bogaard asked. “Have you ever in your experience seen a young adult, child, whatever you want to call Rachel, show such gross disrespect for her parents?””* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

How many honor students are there?
Too many parents spit out kids and don’t bother raising or educating them, and here we have a kid who’s obviously has striven for and achieved excellence.
She’s not asking for a car or a phone, she wants to finish her basic education.
Are her parents some kind of messed up Jesus-freaks, or some other cult fanatics?
Is she doing drugs or an alcoholic?
If an honors student isn’t ‘entitled’ to expect reciprocity for their effort, what’s the point in trying?
What does this teach kids?
‘Keep working hard, your about to find yourself on the street?’
These parents are shirking, both their responsibility, and their moral obligation, and it’s reprehensible.
I am put in mind of the old story about grease and a prison wall. Yes, extreme, but it’s never meant literally. It’s like, here, get some hard knocks.
