Silicon Valley billionaire Tom Perkins garnered headlines recently by comparing the persecution of the rich to the Nazis’ treatment of Jews in Germany. His complaint was no isolated incident, as complaints from the super-rich about being under attack and the victims of class warfare have become commonplace.
So where do the excessively wealthy get the idea that the 1% need to fear for their safety at the hands of the 99%? And with the wealthy feeling like they’re under attack, what hope is there today for the kind of change that can address income inequality, bring the financial system under some semblance of control and restore the American dream for the majority of lower and middle class Americans?
