Is this the end of Let’s Play videos and streaming? A HUGE subset of Youtube’s most popular channels are centered on video gameplay and analysis, but with an “armageddon” of ContentID claims- thousands of videos featuring gameplay were flagged for copyrighted content. When videos are flagged for copyrighted material, a few things happen. Firstly, the video can no longer be monetized (no money can be earned by the uploader), and secondly, the uploader may lose certain privileges on their channel, including live-streaming and custom thumbnails.

Only a certain set of videos are being flagged for the time being, but will that spread out further? Who are these mysterious third parties found in some of the ContentID matches? Will this destroy one of YouTube’s most popular categories of video, and why is YouTube choosing to do this now? Kim Horcher and Tim Frisch are joined by Andrew Fogel (producer/director from TYT Network/The League of Steam)
