Walmart made headlines this week when a Cleveland store ran a food drive where employees could donate canned goods to their underprivileged coworkers who might have trouble feeding themselves during the holiday season.
Is this yet another example of the big box retailer’s penny pinching ways? Or is Walmart merely providing employees with a holiday-inspired opportunity to be generous to one another? What does it say when US taxpayers shell out hundreds of millions of dollars to support Walmart employees who can’t make ends meet based on the company’s meager pay? If Walmart paid a living wage, could the government spend that money more effectively?
