Ladar Levison famously shut down his Lavabit encrypted email service, allegedly because of NSA pressure to reveal client information. Now Lavabit is working with Silent Circle, another shut-down privacy messaging service, to change email as we know it. Levison once said, “If you know what I know about email, you wouldn’t use it,” presumably about how easy it is for third parties to crack allegedly secure email transmissions. Now, the “Dark Mail Alliance” is working to change that with their kickstarter campaign.
The project is still open and has not reached its funding goals: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ladar/lavabits-dark-mail-initiative
Will we ever have secure email? Kim Horcher and Tim Frisch discuss.

When a company doesn’t have the “keys” to de-crypt your mail then there is no way they can give any info about your mails to the company…
