Edward Snowden left Russia. On his way to Bolivia? He rejected Putin’s demands to stop leaking. If Bolivia is the bastion of freedom now, we’ve dropped the mantle. NSA spying. Glenn Greenwald. Fox News. Failed Russian rocket. Brit Hume. Egypt. Lucky Charms. Twitter Storm.

Jesus que paso guey? El garfico dice July 1, 2013 :))
I am so sick and tired of the Snowden stories.
The first couple days there was actual news to be reported. now it’s just a bunch of where’s Waldo bullshit
Does ‘hold until relieved’ apply to everyone or just Americans? You seem to advocate for people abandoning their posts in other countries to come to the US instead of staying and fighting.
Currently in Prague drinking local beer & watching TYT in preperation for a bar crawl. doesn’t get any better than that. Also, FREE SNOWDEN.
I don’t know how I feel about Cenk’s last bit of advice not to leave the country. I’ve been an expat for a few years now, and I think there are a lot of benefits to this lifestyle: travel, gaining a wider perspective, saving money, etc. On the other hand, there are no perfect countries to move to. Everywhere has its own ups and downs, and rewards and problems. I also stay connected to American politics, obviously by watching TYT among other things. No matter where you go, your home country’s laws and policies still affect you in some ways. It’s also possible to be politically active over the internet. Perhaps at some point, I’ll return home and be more politically active. But right now, I’m having a pretty decent life.
I think there may be many who are thinking along the same lines as you.
How on earth is traveling around the world saving you money? And where do I sign up?
BTW, Cenk is saying it as a general idea in response to the “When the going get’s tough, I’m out of here” approach. He’s not stating as a proscribed course of action for anyone who considers living abroad. And he has a point in that if you adopt that approach, odds are you’ll have do the same again when you encounter problems elsewhere. People should train themselves to deal with problems, rather than try to escape them. In general. YMMV.
I don’t disagree with Jayar’s point about Greenwald making it sound as if he’s like.. baiting before a commercial break. But. I’m going to give him an earned benefit of the doubt and assume that they’re going through what they can and can’t divulge, -because- they don’t actually want to put anyone’s life in danger.
…And Cenk said exactly that not 30 seconds after. I really should stop posting before I finish the entire segment.
I am here for my first TYT postgame live show

“We’ve dropped the mantle” says Cenk desperately in 2013 AD. I’d like someone to remind me, when exactly has the United States held that mantle as the vaunted “leader of the Free World”? Was it when Bush was playing World Police? Was it in the Iran-Contra days? Was it earlier during the Cold War, maybe mantle equals McCarthyism? Was it while carpet-bombing the shit out of Vietnam, or while nuking Japan to send a message to USSR?
If we had it, it must have been from December 7,1941 to August 6, 1945 but we haven’t shut up about it since. But it wasn’t a bad 45 month run, aside from some firebombing and such.
Even the WWII role is vastly overblown. I don’t know what the Leader of the Free World was doing while the Russians were holding the entire eastern front and breaking the Nazi war machine through pure attrition?
And generally, I don’t really mind a country adopting purely self-serving nationalist interests, it’s kind of what countries do. I’m just annoyed by the hypocrisy of doing that and *still* claiming to be altruistic benefactors leading the “Free World” into a brighter future. That fable should’ve died back in 1991.
Did you say you don’t know what America was doing while the Soviets ground the Nazi’s to dust?
Wow, you should look into that. America was defeating the Japanese in the Pacific which is actually the great US contribution to the war. We played a major role just not the one most Americans believe.
We also liberated Africa, Italy and won the crucial Battle of the Atlantic. All of that doesn’t even mention the material support Amrica provided.
We were self serving and duplicitous to the Soviets and, yes, they played the dominant role in defeating the Nazi’s but don’t make your otherwise reasonable points subject to ridicule by pretending America did nothing.
