    It did start slow, but for sure one of my favorite episodes EVER… I don’t recall laughing so much as with Brett’s impression… please make it public, it’s GOLD.
    I get that the idea is for Ben or Cenk to be envolved, but Rick even mentioned it… THEY were the only ones available; would most actually preffer nothing to this hillarious conversation?

  3. It just stopped playing and I’m not refreshing to continue to listen. These guys started the episode without any idea of what to do with the time on air. Yeah, I know it’s Old School but at least have a coherent idea to start a conversation on. Cenk, Dave, Malcolm, Mark, even once Emma, they all had made some notes about topics prior, you can tell

  6. I have to disagree with almost every single comment. I LOVED this episode. Brett and Rick had me in stitches. I was howling with laughter. Are the negative comments from an older demographic perhaps? I’m 30 and loved it.

    Really don’t understand all the hate. I think people just want stuff to b*tch about.

    PLEASE DO MORE OLD SCHOOL EPISODES WITH BRETT! He’s f*cking hilarious. I can’t get enough of him.

  7. I watch every episode of tyt and that change has never been mentioned. A simple member wide email or announcement on the main show would prevent the inevitable irritation the members get when the shows we pay for mysteriously disappear.

    I recall Ben making a casual reference 3 weeks ago to “the first ever Friday morning Old School”, however no mention, even then, on it being a permanent thing.

      Old School is filmed on Friday and goes live on Monday. Since it’s live Monday, it’s published then….as it has been for 3 weeks now.

  10. Totally agree. The true old school originals that started from the beginning. Cenk, Steve, Ben, Mark, Dave, Wes, Jayar, Jimmy, and even Johnny Pie (who isn’t from way back, but he’s one of the gang). I love this show normally. Sometimes more than any of the others but in the last couple months I’ve caught a few episodes that just don’t work. Need a power panel!

    Old School is one of the main reasons I am a member. There is no point spending 10 USD per month on this crap. This episode is pure garbage. If you can’t maintain quality, don’t do it.

  15. I saw this coming. As enterprises grow the old familiar things fade and change. I’ve been following TYT for years now, and Old School was the gem of the line up. As you grow older change becomes harder to handle. I accept change with general positivity but like watching Disney wreck Winnie the Pooh, this Old School simply proves the rule not the exception. I’ll try it but I’m pretty sure I’ll pass on it sooner than later. I won’t stop my support because I’m totally behind Cenk’s vision but I won’t watch what is neither entertaining nor clarifying. So geht es mum leben, nicht war?

  18. The best show on the network is becoming even worse than Pop Trigger. Sweet lawd. I became a member because of this show and now I’m thinking I’m going to cancel and just catch the free clips on youtube. Makes me so damn sad. This show was one of the things I looked forward to each week. Bummer. I’ll give it to the end of the month to decide.

  22. Old School should go back to an evening show that is longer than an hour and perhaps 2.5 hours when you have a power panel and this should be an Old School rule, on Old School at least someone should be from Old School TYT.
    This episode was terrible! Don’t get me wrong, I like Brett, but this was a swing in the miss.

    If you guys want an Old School type of show in the morning but with a younger panel, just make a new show like Millennial Monday Morning or something, I’d probably watch that, but Old School should stay Old School imo.

    I like the Old School episodes with Cenk, Ben and sometimes Jimmy, Mark or Wes (before he lost his mind)

  24. I pretty much joined as a member because of Old School, loving the old 1.5-2 hour podcast-like setup, conversation topics, and aura. I’d have to agree with the general sentiment in the rest of the comment section that Old School “should” feature Cenk, Ben, Jayar, etc.

    I imagine Cenk and the other guys are extremely busy during the day, and expecting them to spend time during the evening away from their families is unfair. I do wonder, however, if there’s a way for them to rearrange things somehow to at least get Cenk and Ben on the show as much as possible. Maybe they could do it once every two weeks (would suck to wait that long though…)?

  25. Really surprised at the comments when I first clicked on, thought many were overreacting but not really, one of the worst OS I’ve seen after watching for about a year and a half. Brett is a smart dude but I think plays a persona that doesn’t really work, at least for me it gets kinda old. Hope OS gets back to what it once was.

  26. Snoozefest. Made it about halfway through. These guys needed to actually watch a few Old Schools to get the feel and format. Good to see Rick back. I’ve reached my level of tolerance for Brett with John being gone. Glad he’s back too.

  27. This episode gave me the same feeling as when Matrix 2 & 3 came out, excited to see how things turn out then just a deep feeling of regret at it being made.

    Whilst both hosts are good on other shows, this was bad. I liked Bretts appearance on old school before but echoing the comments below, it just didn’t work. It wasn’t fluid, funny (apart from Bretts Gollum voice) and lacked the charm of what old school is.

    My Ideal old school would be Ben, Cenk, Mark then the actual rest of the original crew members. We all love Cenk talking about food, and his list of quirky things about food and then to have Ben be a sane and reasonable voice in the conversation and bring Cenk back down. Love Mark’s tales of hollywoo etc and then just a general mishmash of topics about them growing up, life and dreams….but not there actual dreams as I think that is an old school rule, never tell me your dreams.

    Ideally less politics would be good. We all despise trump and he is a total bawbag. Move on to the fun stuff in life.

    Also, I have never read so many neg comments on an TYT video never mind OS. This cannot happen again.

  28. I don’t understand the haters on here, this was a fun episode of Old School. Brett and Rick were hilarious together and it was awesome to learn a little more Rick now that he’s back with TYT. I’m a TYTSports fan too so I guess I’m a little biased.

  36. I enjoyed that but struggled to follow, Rick and Brett have all this history and inside jokes. I liked it but would of loved someone else there to slow you both down and expand on your points. Drive down on the details.
    I really enjoyed hearing about Brett’s history.

  37. I LOVE seeing the fans speak out in all these comments. It’s true, moving the show from live Wednesday evening to recording on a Friday morning was a HORRIBLE call. I felt it when the move was announced, unexpectedly and without warning on the last Wednesday live show. I knew it would kill the vibe of the show, and it did. Brett’s great, but you can’t do old school with just him and new guy, live or not. I’m with everyone above, move the show back to live evening broadcast, with a solid crew. Do it bi-weekly if you must, hell, once a month done right would be better than what we have. Don’t fuck up Old School, please, thanks.

  39. I’m not really gonna say who ‘should’ and ‘shouldn’t’ be on old school, it seems to work better sometimes with ‘old’ people but whatever.
    I don’t need to comment on ages to say that this was, as far as I can remember, the worst episode of anything I’ve ever seen in 10+ years of watching the young turks.

    What the fuck with the squirrel like attention spans guys? At some points you switched topics every 15 fucking seconds! It was like watching the talk show version of a pop music video.

    On an unrelated note – like burchmore500 said that is really the best fucking gollom impression, wow brett. Kudos.

  40. i feel like tyt took a nose dive since the election. and this episode of what was once called old school has to be one of the lowest points humankind has ever explored.

    1. Had to call in the C squad I see.
      You can’t call a show Old School and bring these guys in.
      They are fine in their own respective areas, just not this show.

      Stick with the core group; Cenk, Ben, Micheal, Mark, Dave, Malcolm.
      Plus the morning start time does it no favours.

      They have obviously grown an audience due to their election.
      But as a long time viewer I couldn’t agree more.
      There seems to be a concerted effort to pander to ‘woke’ Millennials.

  43. Over the years of watching old school, it felt like I was overhearing a conversation of: working men, after a hard days work; sharing a few brewskis…and BITCHING about the world. This is not a slam of these hosts (I thought last week with Ben, only slightly more bearable)…THIS IS NOT OLD SCHOOL. I would rather miss a show( I wouldn’t care if it was once a month), just to have Cenk anchoring the show in the evening (with a night crew of misfits who don’t mind staying over for a little Gorilla TV)!!!! Please, I am begging you: don’t FUCK WITH OLD SCHOOL.

  44. Did not even bother watching this. I am so fed up with Brett and am more convinced than ever he really is only suited for Pop Trigger. I have a hunch that he is very popular in a demographic that the TYT editorial board cares about exclusively. I just can’t stand him any more for reasons I have posted about frequently. Its reached the point where I will fast forward when talks or just skip a segment or show all together.

    With regards to Old School specifically, like others have said the best hosts are Cenk and Ben. However, I do enjoy Mark Thompson and Michael Shure. Special mention to the Old School that had Cenk, Nomiki and Adam Green, which is my all time favorite.

  45. It’s unanimous, this ain’t working. Please, either retire the show or go back to what we all tune in for. Recording the show Friday morning has completely changed the vibe so it’s Goodbye Old School for now.

  48. I completely agree with many of the other commenters. I wouln’t even bother to look at this, and I love Old School. Frankly, I would prefer Cenk & Ben only, one of the all-time great pairings in media history, IMO.

  49. I usually can’t be bothered to comment but after saving my Old School till today, I was just disappointed watching this episode. I know these blokes are not as thick as it came across but it sounded like two freshman frat boys flaffing which made for utter bollocks of a show.

    I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the new schedule because last week Monday’s podcast wasn’t too bad but there is something to be said about it being in the evening like an after work chilled out session with the lads.

    Seriously, heed all the whining in these comments. Although I’m a 10 year member and love the main show, some folks are just Old School lovers and this episode was piss poor.

  52. This was grating on my nerves. First, it doesn’t feel like Old School to me. I think a lot of other people covered all the bases on that.

    Second, Ricky is talking out of his ass about cats. New studies show that women who have cats are more likely to be happier, and experience less anxiety and depression. They are also more likely to be healthier later in life than women who don’t have a cat. So the facts are the EXACT OPPOSITE of what he’s saying.

    I’ve studied cats all my life, big and small. They don’t hate you unless you’re a douche. They are VERY observant. They see us as equals. They are VERY social animals, their brains are more like ours than dog’s brains are, and they are wicked smart. Of course, just like people, there is variation in intelligence, but they also display empathy for other animals like humans and dogs. My youngest cat PETS ME when I’m not feeling well or if I’m sad.

    I’m SO sick of this “Blah blah, cats are evil, blah blah, nothing we’re saying is actually true, but who cares what the experts say?” You’re like the GOP when it comes to cats. Learn some fucking things about topics before you go blabbing about it like you know something.

      1. I do too. We used to foster dogs, especially herding dogs, and the cats were a very important part of their training. Our place is too small to do it now, and I miss it. The whole argument over cats vs. dogs is idiotic, I agree.

        Asking which one is better does not give us knowledge. It confuses the issue, and the facts get lost in the fog. And because there is no logical, objective answer to this question, it leaves people feeling vulnerable, and thus they are likely to get overly emotional (also because we love our pets a great deal). When has a lack of logic, plus overly emotional people, ever equaled positive discourse on the internet?

        That answer would be NEVER.

        And now I would like to address people who hate either dogs or cats because they love the other one. If you are not one of these people, you are excused, and may go on with your day. I’m not talking about personal choice of pet. If you want to say you prefer to have a dog, or you prefer to have a cat, or hamster, or ferret, or skunk…whatever it is, that’s okay. I’m not talking about you.

        I am so, so tired of people having these stupid debates about which one is better. If you’re one of these people, let me ask you something: Do you like elephants? Does that make you hate zebras? When you go to the zoo, do you go and look at just one animal? Does seeing meerkats frolic and play somehow diminish your enjoyment of cheetahs? If so, you might have a problem. A problem with logic, surely, but possibly a mental one as well.

        I like dogs. I like cats. I understand cats and dogs for the most part. Cats can be harder to understand if you aren’t in the habit of thinking too deeply about pets. I get that. You actually have to try to think like a cat, to empathize with them. Most people can’t even put themselves in another human’s shoes, much less empathize with another species. I get that. But they are very social, highly intelligent creatures that can show just as much (and sometimes more) affection as our canine friends.

        So, just understand that when I see you talking about how dogs are better than cats or cats are better than dogs, I see an imbecile shouting, spittle flying, about how hamsters are THE BEST! THE BEST! AND THAT’S WHY FERRETS SUCK!!!!

    1. The gang is being rough on this episode. Nobody loves an Old School with Cenk, Ben and Michael, or whomever they choose, more than I do. I laughed out loud at least twice during this. I think Rick Strom is entertaining. I have always liked Brett.

  55. Big fan of both Brett and Rick but for the love of a non-existant god how do we have old schools with Cenk or Ben? I know i’m probably member #5,372 mentioning this but Old School is one of the bread and butter shows on this network and you do not make these kind of ridiculous changes. Murder with Friends is hosted by Grace or it doesn’t happen, Aggressive Progressives is Jimmy Dore’s platform for hilarity, and Old School is a laid back conversation with Old School guys. A year ago we barely let on millenials because you didn’t want to change up the chemistry of the show and look how far we have fallen

      My big addition is: I also feel that moving the filming to a morning slot is disastrous. Part of what facilitated the silliness and spontaneity that is Old School was the booze. Nobody wants beer on a Friday morning.

    2. They can keep this prerecord Monday show, just change its name to something else. Like maybe a show just for millennials since that’s kind of what it seems to be slowly turning into anyway.. Go back to the old school Old School days when it wasn’t a regular show but just a fun thing the guys did when they felt like it about once a month. Back when it was 2 or more hours long. It doesn’t need to be a weekly show.

      On a related note, Brett’s increasing prevalence on the network is starting to really irk me, but f the Friday post game ‘millennial dumpster fire’ crew ever shows up on old school, stick a fork in it, it’s done.

  58. 100% Agreed. Ben and/or Cenk must be on Old School for it to be old school. There must be talk about a recent meal and at least one or more “epiphifoods”. There can’t be overwhelming political content. I don’t want to get to know new random people, at least not without Cenk or Ben to anchor the show with classic TYTisms. I need Cenk’s meandering musings and Ben’s acerbic wit.

    Maybe it’s because you’re filming in the morning, but the vibe for the past 2 or 3 episodes is off. Film it whenever you want but don’t put quantity over quality—you don’t need a power panel of 4 or 5 guys on Old School like your had a couple of weeks ago. Just get Cenk and Ben in a room and just let them shoot the shit.

    This old school was like a nerdy episode of Beevus and Butthead…

  61. Agree with comments on the time change when they tape the show. Being at night made it feel more like they are hanging out and relaxing after work with a beer, etc. Now in the morning, do they drink bloodies? Just not the same feel for the viewer and for them. Also agreed that old school needs to have old school TYT people on it or at least a few. I like Brett and do like when they have “new” people on to fill in some gaps but they can’t be the whole show. Next thing you know they will have a “dumpster fire” Old school ……. the horror.

  64. Hey Cenk, Old School is literally my favorite thing in TYT for entertainment, please be in it. Others don’t understand OldSchool format. It’s not a post game! It’s not a place for graphics like what Malcolm does. You cannot have more than 1/3 of the show about politics. Ben or Cenk must be there and then other guests are welcome to be there.

  65. No need to list all the things that make and break Old School. They captured something that worked with the original roster and setup but the formula has changed and it is no longer working. TYT team know what has changed and will know the membership/viewer numbers. They will act accordingly.

  67. I have to agree with previous comments. Old School is supposed to be with the old school hosts of TYT. That means Cenk and Ben. It used to be a rule that at least one of them had to be on or they would skip the show that week. Now they bring in anyone and everyone and it’s just not the same. The repartee between Cenk and Ben (and sometimes a third party) is what made this show so great, and it can’t be re-produced with the younger TYT hosts. Cenk and Ben have not been on Old School together since August 3rd. Plus the issue of the atmosphere of the show when shot at night rather than in the morning. They really need to re-think the direction of this show, as I’m sure it was a catalyst for a lot of subscriptions. Maybe they ought to record the show on Thursday nights, after Aggressive Progressives, since there is a crew already at the studio. At least Jimmy or Ron Placone could jump in sometimes.

  69. A proper Old School is Ben and Cenk, that it! Yes, we can live with Malcolm or Mark coming from time to time, they are funny and interesting guys. But wtf?! Brett and Ricky Strom? If Ben and Cenk are the A team, and Malcolm and Mark are part of a wider B team (with Jimmy, Dave, Steve Oh etc.), well, these two guys are not even in the fucking alphabet! I’m sure you’re great people, but, Brett, you’re the most boring person I’ve ever heard in my life. And Ricky, your importance is on the tytsports channel arguing with Ben over how football (yes, I’m an European) is never going to work out in America and Americans don’t care. That’s it! I understand we’re one person shorter than before, cause Wes thinks you’re the Antichrist. (to be fair to him Cenk is really fucking bad at naming things, let me just say this also as an European) I pay money for this shit, if you wanna have newcomers, have Gina Grad or, I don’t know, a funny person. I know, it’s a radical idea. But, for the love of god, bring back people who won’t make me slice my wrists listening to them.
