They needed teachers when my mum wanted to escape my schizophrenic, murderous bio-dad in 1969 when I was six, so yeah, that’s the only reason we were able to emigrate from So-Cal..
I spent the weekend catching up on TYT broadcasts from the time I was evacuated from fires and unable to access daily. So, this comment is in response to a bunch of stuff said last week.
Cenk, you are correct that Trump people are in an information bubble which shields them from knowledge of what is actually happening. Not only are they shielded from learning what is actually going on, but they have strong defense mechanism that rejects the knowledge even when presented with facts.
Unfortunately, the same is true of too many Democrats. If they are getting their news from CNN/MSNBC, they are unaware of much of the malfeasance going on within their own party. For instance, last week’s vote to give Trump an $83 million dollar increase in the 2019 defense budget. MOST Democrat senators voted in favor. It was the EARLIEST authorization of a defense bill in many decades. What did Trump do to deserve such an honor? Is this what we call “resistance” ? (Bernie voted against it, of course, and so did the Wannabe’s Who Now Vote Like Bernie In Hopes of Becoming President in 2020. I prefer the one-and-only original who votes the right way no matter what — Bernie Sanders.)
Another example — Tom Perez just got a resolution passed in the DNC that allows the DNC to accept donations from the fossil fuel industry (this is in direct rebuttal to progressive pressure for the DNC to come clean and fight climate change for real).
But, try to explain this to Dem voters and they will most likely respond exactly the same as Trump voters when presented with inconvenient truth. They either “don’t believe it” or they don’t care, because “GOP is worse.” They will go right on voting for the Dems who vote with Trump, or who vote with the fossil fuel industry.
I dispair for democracy. It cannot survive so much aggressive denialism and downright stupidity on both sides. Left and Right are constructs used by the Establishment to keep Americans divided and at the mercy of the Corporate Oligarghy.
Bernie transends that divide by refusing to take the “left vs right” bait, and instead talking about POLICIES that will help everyone. This is why the Establishment is so terrified of him. Because he is right, and because he is popular, among all voters. .
Also (and this is why attacking/criticizing Trump is a lose-lose) — for many of his supporters, the only question that matters is “Does Trump make liberals cry?” If the answer is yes, then he is doing what they elected him to do.
When we talk about policies that help people instead of attacking Trump, we can win hearts and minds. Attack Trump directly, and you are giving the Right exactly what it wants — more polarizing division.
#BeLikeBernie
Extremely sorry to hear you were affected by fires, I hope things are ok now.
Cannot emphasize how much I agree with the need to talk about solutions to peoples’ problems with a compassionate eye rather than staying locked in this 24 hour cycle of – “better than Trump, better than you if you’re conservative.”
I was listening to Katie’s interview of Tom Frank the other day (Real News), where he was emphasizing the Democrats’ alignment with the upper middle professional class.
You were mentioning the Democratic leaders and lawmakers but also think about the general temperament and world view of this upper middle professional class, whose thinking and attitudes are very much reflected by TYT.
It’s not like they are not smart enough to realize what their way of life is doing to people in the country and around the world. They very well knew the effect businesses like Uber and Amazon would have on communities, simply because there were precursor ideas to these that rendered cab drivers and small retail owners jobless and poor. They still welcome these ideas like they are the best things in the world, talk about the damage to livelihoods of poor people as “inevitable collateral damage” or a result of “not keeping up with the times”. There have been entire regions rendered poor and wrecked through the economic experiments of globalization that are championed by this professional class.
And yet, proponents of this ideology, which is the base of the establishment Democrats post DLC believe that people who are poor and have economic insecurities devolving into racial bias are supposed to be taking lessons on being better human beings from them. I will not mince words and say it directly – when somebody like John Iadarola denies the existence of economic stress in racial animosity (answer to Katie’s point), that is a response that stems from pure fact denial and tribalism (the tribe in this case being a privileged urban class), is deeply sociopathic in nature, and has done significantly more tangible damage to America and the rest of the world than a low information rust belt assembly line worker who looks with impotent rage at black and brown people climbing ahead of him economically and thinks of them as the reason for his very real troubles.
This was a great panel. I liked the women adding some power to the power panel.
I wonder how evolved atheists were on that survey. Which is the weirdest survey I can imagine.
If the alt-right thinks Jews rule the world, then doesn’t that make Jews the superior race? Maybe they’re angry at being the beta race?
I’m amazed in this day that we have a federal judge who makes an ethical and not a completely corporate bought out decision. Gives one hope.
That study is really fascinating. It’s surprising how they even know the difference between Arabs, Muslims, and Turks. I remember a story of Cenk’s he told on a post game or Old School on how this guy in a Turkish restaurant was yelling at a worker for being Arab, when he’s Turkish. Funny shit. I would love to hear it again if anyone remembers what video that came from.
On antisemitism, even though the answer was already low at 74, polls set up like that don’t properly reflect antisemitism because it is different than a lot of other forms of bigotry. Jews, according to white supremacists, are the powerful who are trying to take down society through manipulating money, culture, immigration systems (bringing in Muslims and black people to “replace” them), etc. An evolution scale won’t reflect that like it would arabophobia or anti-black racism. It would be interesting to see a more in-depth study into alt-right antisemitism by people who understand antisemitism.
I’m 39 minutes in and I don’t think I can continue. This lineup is too goofy and the parts where they are trying to joke around is too annoying to continue. I would much rather watch Cenk by himself than this power panel.
Can we stop having Francesca Fiorentini on the main show? Not a huge fan.
i can see why Francesca splits the room, but the off comments she made were outweighed by many more dead on comments, so i’m coming around to liking her over the space of just the 1 hour panel. i’d like to hear more from her. agree to disagree
Always pleasantly surprised by Francesca’s anticapitalist lean, would love to hear more of her on the show
I must admit, I have a crush on both Katie Halper and Francesca Fiorentini so this segment was a dream. Loved it.
Hello friends
Cenk remarked that he wants to understand the alt-right, just as he wants to understand ISIS. There was a great panel held at Washington Hebrew Congregation this past Friday. The event included congress persons Eleanor Norton Holmes and Jamie Raskin, a representative from the ACLU, a representative from the Anti-Defamation League, the Executive Director of Life After Hate and others. The Executive Director and Co-founder of Life After Hate, Tony McAleer, said that there were two things that frequently happened with people in hate groups that eventually led them to leave the groups. First Mr. McAleer said that the birth of a child, particularly a female child, was one reason that extremeist left hate groups. Second Mr. McAleer said that receiving compassion from someone the person in the hate group did not believe that he or she deserved compassion from was another reason that the person would leave the hate group. Mr. McAleer told everyone that people were usually drawn into these groups because the groups gave them a sense of purpose, identity and belonging. He said that as human beings we all want to be loved, and he connected this to why people are drawn into these hate groups. Life After Hate represents former members of extremist groups from all over the world; Islamic terrorists, Irish Protestant terrorists, Irish Catholic terrorists, white supremacists ect. All of the speakers on the panel in my opinion were very good, but I think that what Mr. McAleer said best addresses how to understand people in hate groups. This event was covered by C-span, and is about 2 hours long. I recommend watching the whole thing, but you can skip to the segments with Tony McAleer if you want. The link to C-span’s coverage of the event is below.

thanks for sharing the link
Everyone should care about everyone else regardless of species, genders, breeds, ages, or any other traits.
“OF COURSE”
Here is how you Frame all the cost arguments from now on, first we switch to Medicare for All and then we use that 2 Trillion we save to fund other progressive issues. problem solved.
I’m lucky to have insurance through my work. I was just prescribed a medication by my doctor. Without insurance, it would have cost me about $600.00 for a 1 month supply.
the scottish parliament made all prescription drugs totally free for the entire country. and they don’t get called socialist
I love TYT, I wish only that I had joined years ago!!! Cenk Uygur & John Iadarola, I’ve been watching you guys forever!!!!
Great to have you friend
It’s really interesting; normal people don’t talk about how “evolved” other people are, that is only language that white supremacists use. But of course it’s not based on facts at all. So this study is actually just a way to measure how much white supremacists hate certain people using the insane language they understand.
People have been lead to believe that free college for everyone is not possible.
Fine. What about just free Community College or free Trade Schools? So many people could be helped by just making those things free. If you want, put some stipulations on it, like working in a state govt service for 1-2yrs upon graduation, something like that.
Free CCs & TS would be beneficial for students AND state.
It seems like an easy first step upgrade from what we have now.
Daddy Koch worked for Stalin.
W’s G. Grandpa Samuel Bush sold arms to BOTH sides in WW1.
Grandpa Prescott Bush was part of bank funding Nazis in WW2.
How about Bush family being snuggle-bunny humpy-huggers with the Saudis?
Stalin? Step aside Kochs, let the Bushes show you how it’s done!
Just started watching this Hour and I have one thought on a Cenk v. Ted (aka. Zodiac Killer) Debate.
I think it would MUCH more interesting if ANA was the one to debate Cruz.
I believe Cruz would think he could bully & sarcastic comment her into submission. He’d think her female cardinal humours would naturally make her easily unbalanced & confused. Not to mention the age factor! Or the carefully crafted skill he’s developed from his many years of concealing his serial killer night job.
She would absolutely fillet him.
Yes!!! I love the idea of and Ana V. Ted debate. While I appreciate both of Ana and Cenk’s experience and drive to debate ideas, Ana is particularly amazing at schooling every person she goes head to head with, that I’ve ever seen. :)
zodiak killer, its kind of a sick joke but i nearly did a spit take reading it, PMSL
Ok I have to say that Francesca is the coolest chic ever! When she put up her hand just expecting John to high-five her and he did that was an awesome moment. She’s like Vasquez from “Aliens” she’s just too bad :-)
wow, fist time i ever agreed with “this fucking guy”… good to find common ground brother (I’m of course making the assumption drat heart is not a ladies name)
Didn’t know there was an attempt to bring back debtors prisons. Yikes!
These Comey fanboys don’t have time to waste for such news like massacre in Yemen? Or killing babies in Gaza?
“…Comey fanboys…” You are correct and wrong.
Two things can be true at once. Heck…more than two.
You Russia deniers are so myopic.
I only hope that you are as quick with apologies when the proved wrong, as you are with accusations.
Come is a lifelong republican you dipshit Zimmis
***comey**** (obviously)
damn you aitocorrect
***autocorrect***
Katie Harper is so silver tongued, quick witted.
For the record, I absolutely love Francesca Fiorentini. Can we please have her on every Friday power panel? xoxoxoxo
She’s fantastic. This was a great panel.
+1
I really wish you guys had more veterans on, your missing a huge demographic/pov
Don’t remember his name, but I like the guy they have on every now and then who used to be a cop.
Are you referring to the ex-Baltimore cop Michael Wood? I feel like it’s been well over a year since he’s been on. Not sure what exactly he’s up to lately but he still seems to be pretty active on social media.
https://www.hcn.org/issues/50.6/tribal-affairs-cashing-in-on-standing-rock
typed enter by accident, but that’s what happened to Micheal Wood
At least the are publishing the Koch findings honestly.
I am also glad that NH has a $30 bail for low level offenders. If you don’t show up for your court date, you will be responsible for the full bond.
I was going to write quasi rant, but ill try to break it down simply from my point of view. I love you guys overall, and i agree on most…. But holy shiz does it bug me when anyone tells me what i can or can’t say. I know our first amendment quite well, and its incredibly important, I dont agree with hate speech, etc…. But firstly i dont think any human or animal needs a right to say whatever F’ed up stuff they want, especially individual words. I dont agree with it but i will fight to the death for you right to say it. And i put in two tours in Afghanistan, as a combat engineer, i know we werent fight for our freedom but our forefathers did. And i understand as much as i can as a white man, doing research daily. But to get back to my original idea, and i apologize if this is kinda hard to follow, i do much better in actual discussion. Even though i dont use those hateful terms, nor believe in them. but please stop telling me or anyone they cant. They shouldnt yes, i agree, but seriously who the F*uck is anyone to tell me what i can or cant say. Im sure this will be taken out of context, but im not afraid of honest debate. But anytime anyone tells me i cant say something because it will offend ppl, thats the wrong message, it should be, you shouldnt say this. and here is why. And you guys do, do that, i do hear that message. and it honestly infuriates me.
I apologize for some of the grammar errors, *I know we were not fighting* and at the end, the thing that infuriates me was to my earlier point, i was trying to write my feelings and i made a few mistakes.
My last addendum will be this, what i wouldnt give to sit down with Cenk, John, Ana, Ben, Michael, JR, etc… any and all. I crave debate so bad! I dont have the money to get that quarterly call membership, although i wish i did but (military disability doesnt pay well) maybe one day
Hey, so I’m trying to figure out what they said that got you so upset about today’s show. Yesterday and several times in the past week Cenk and Ana have been adamant about how they don’t think that even hate speech should be censored. In regards to banning Alex Jones from several social media platforms they specifically said they support it only because he incites violence against the parents of Sandy Hook victims and specifically doxxed their addresses numerous times leading to death threats against those parents. I surely hope that you believe that threats of violence or inciting/encouraging violence shouldn’t be protected speech. On the Friday power panel they sometimes do have people who don’t always agree with the core hosts, but can you give some specific points from today you have a problem with?
to counter your point, look at all the progressive left commentators coming out strongly against alex jones being de-platformed; Jimmy dore, Kyle Kalinski (I KNOW i spelt that wrong), even Cenk… they are arguing it’s a 1st amendment issue and he should be allowed to spout his hateful bile; not celebrating his (partial) downfall, despite his views being utterly despicable to any right minded person, never mind progressives who detest him.
Cenk, are you sure you’re not responsible for the increased tariffs on aluminum from Turkey?
Has Trump been secretly watching your show?
My cousin just moved back to Australia because she couldn’t afford the medical bills here any longer and just posted this on her FB page:
My metastic breast cancer is stable and I’m back on meds. Zoladex shot cost me a whopping $6.40! In the US it would have cost me $600. I love it here!
take me with you
When I was a kid they sacked the Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam, just before he was going to go public and expose the CIA who had spy stations in the outback with the cooperation of the British Government, who still had some power over being able to decide Australia’s direction, as it were.
The Falcon and the Snowman film portrayed some of what was going on at the time. Fascinating and frightening stuff, but Australia’s Government is now even more in bed with the Conservatives than in the ’70s.
It’s still miles better than the U.S. is going to be soon, but Turnbull’s a right prick, and no mistake.

ironically, us British sent all our criminals (including anyone stealing bread to feed their family) to the original ‘Oz’. now the Australians won’t even let us move to their glorious country unless we have skill they are short of, or we marry an Ozzy.
