  2. American car companies are among the most short sighted institutions in the world. When gas is cheap they rush to produce the most inefficient big cars and SUVs out there, and then when gas inevitably goes up everybody abandons them for fuel efficient foreign cars and then they bitch and moan about how foreign companies are taking american jobs. Its not just an oil company conspiracy, its how american markets fundamentally operate: rewarding short term gains with no emphasis on long term sustainable growth.

    1. I somewhat agree, but i think its a little more nuanced than that.. Gas prices are more a driver of consumer behavior – car companies offer a variety of vehicles across the fuel efficiency spectrum, and as gas gets cheaper, consumers shift their buying habits from fuel efficient cars to bigger, less efficient SUVs. The car companies necessarily shift their production volumes to meet consumer demand. Unfortunately for humanity, the margins on trucks and SUVs is a lot higher than those on small, fuel efficient cars, so presumably the car companies are happy to meet that demand – but they don’t drive that demand unilaterally.

      On top of that, one car company has little ability to shift consumer demand. Its a global industry, and consumers will buy from a foreign automaker if they are selling what the consumer wants and the domestics are not. Significant change to the betterment of the environment and humanity will require a higher authority (government, or multiple governments in the example of Paris Climate Accord) to force all automakers global to evolve in unison or close to it.

  4. On Fuel Efficiency: Right now the Trump Administration is also trying to justify the expansion of drilling in ANWAR and if oil prices keep falling it becomes less and less lucrative to exploit those oil reserves.

  5. Wait,wait they reported people coming to the country w/kids because it was easier to get in if you appear w/a child. Why would you steal a kid that could be questioned and give you up? Also, did not hear about people bringing kids to America to traffic? What I heard her say was horrific…if you came w/a child that was perhaps a niece or nephew a family friend perhaps, and the boarder folks could prove it…they take and keep the child and send the adult packing. It was so simple, these folks started taking the kids from the parents directly. That way the smuggler is out of the loop. Come on someone started pizza gate and dems.? If they are 99% blaming what they do on others…WTF is Q and P. Gate all about?
