I’m an atheist, and German, and I still think Cenk’s sweeping statement of
“Christians committed the Holocaust” isn’t true.
Germany in the early 20th century had already largely become a modern secular society,
i.e. religion had been on the retreat for a long time (Nietzsche, WWI etc.).
Hitler / the Nazis precisely filled that ideological gap with their own ideology.
The more religious people were, the greater also their reservations towards the Nazi crimes usually were.
(That does not mean Christianity did not prepare the Holocaust through century-long depictions of Jews as evil,
which it did.)
I have to correct a statement Cenk made at 47:20 — Beto O’Rourke in Texas has NOT advocated for Medicare for All. He is waffling and using establishment rhetoric about “access”, trying to keep a foot in private insurance while attempting to appeal to Progressives. Nor has he accounted for his vote FOR expanding the already-insane war budget. Beto is running squarely to the middle, and that’s Loser-Land. We’re gonna get stuck with that reptile Cruz because Beto has no backbone, just like the rest of his establishment ilk.
https://www.politico.com/story/2018/07/14/beto-orourke-texas-senate-health-care-november-675953
“While O’Rourke no longer uses phrases like ‘single-payer’ or ‘Medicare for all,’ the crowd cheered when he talked about the need for ‘universal, guaranteed, high-quality health care for all.'”
Pathetic. Weak. NOT a Progressive.
Hot and HUMID in Kansas! Bernie and Alexandria will be in Wichita on Friday with James Thompson too. So wish I could go see them.
Wow! I’ve never seen Foster Brooks’ serious side before! Thanks Young Turks!
Please, Cenk, less time spent shaming people who cast a skeptical eye on “official” story-lines. And it’s turning many viewers off when you and Anna go on and on analyzing political theater as if there is anything approaching real diplomacy going on at the level of Trump’s itinerary. This also goes for the “latest” from team Mueller. It is not blue or red, or left or right, to be really worried about what we are told by the government, all day, every day. Welcome as a part of today’s dilemma, a wide range of valid responses from intelligent people of all stripes.
Independents lower information? I’m skeptical. Of course, I’m also an outlier, so maybe you’re right. I was an independent in California for all of my adult voting life until 2000. I re-registered as a Democrat to protest the selection.
I was always informed; I think I was better informed than partisans, because I was focused on issues and record rather than partisan propaganda. In reality, regardless of registration status, I’ve always been an independent. As a registered Democrat, I voted Green in every presidential election, because I liked the platform better and wasn’t going to vote for a neoliberal. After that disgusting debacle of a Democratic convention in ’16, I re-registered. I’m an independent again.
That doesn’t mean that I don’t pay attention, that I’m not informed. It means I look past partisan propaganda to make my stands.
I think the point they’re making wasn’t very clear. I think the gist is that IF you don’t pay attention and don’t have a preset party from your upbringing you might be more likely to check the independent box on a form since you don’t feel a tie to either party. Meaning that people that don’t care as much or follow politics would often fall into that category. You registering as an independent because you have lost faith in either party is a statement, for many people it would be a lack of statement.
My thoughts anyways
He said that there are informed independent.
News! DNC is figuring out how to destroy Bernie Sanders and Justice Democrats as top priority. Not, how to win back majority in the House or Senate, as we already know. The DNC is corrupt to the core and will never align with Democratic Socialist or any reformer of the DNC. Losing to the GOP but keeping out the Justice Democrats and Bernie Sanders is still considered a Win-Win for the DNC. Losing to Trump is not that big a deal in such case. Clinton Democratic Party is still in control of the DNC.
The very best Friday’s Power Panel always includes Ben Mankiewicz… I wish he wasn’t so busy with TCM, and could fill in then and again during the week…
1) No one has disputed the contents or authenticity of the DNC emails. They said what they said. That has never been disputed. In those emails, the DNC establishment made the game plan very clear: rig the primaries to make sure Queen Hillary would be anointed. The tools they discussed using, in those undisputed email contents, were lies, media manipulation and other dirty deeds.
2) Unless they are also DEMANDING paper ballots in all future elections, whoever you hear saying they worry about Russians hacking our elections is LYING.
The DNC establishment does not want paper ballots, or a paper trail for auditing, because that would deprive them of another important tool in their own arsenal — computer algorithms can be manipulated by anyone. Including Democrats and Republicans.
Deb-n-NCAL, about your first point: I assumed the parties would support a level-playing field during the primary, except for giving more cash to their favored candidate. I looked at the candidates’ policies, not at the party’s behavior. The 2016 election pulled the curtain on the wizard and exposed the rigging, especially with the DNC e-mails and for the reason you state. The Democrat Party By-laws support fair primary elections, which they violated in 2016.
As for your second point, I think you have talked me into it. I have given it some thought and the deciding factor is all code can be hacked given the right expertise is applied. As for paper ballots, Robert Caro reported in the first volume of his four volume biography of Lyndon Baines Johnson that Johnson believed that if a candidate did everything he could to win an election, then he would win the election. When Johnson lost his first election to congress, I think it was, he did not do everything he could to win the race, he only kept back one ballot box when he needed two. The ballot boxes were withheld until the last moment so they could be stuffed with enough ballots to win the election. So, both systems can be hacked. The question would be, who do you want hacking them? At least with paper ballots, you are more likely to be able to physically arrest the perpetrator and bring that person to justice.
I’m sick of listening to Ben apologizing and blowing off the DNC’s TREACHERY to their voters.
I forgot how much like Michael Shure you are.
Fuck you.
Agreed.
CA election rules allow people registered “no party preference” to choose a Dem ballot in presidential primaries, but Sec of State (and crookeder than a dog’s hind leg) Alex Padilla’s office specifically instructed poll workers to give NPP’s provisional ballots instead, knowing those were probably Bernie voters… and then NEVER COUNTED the provisional ballots.
To this day, 2.5 million provisional ballots cast in the CA primary have never been counted.
Also, for the record — in every CA county that uses paper ballots, Bernie won.
Deb-n-NCAL, if you tried that you would be in jail. Why hasn’t Padilla suffered any consequences? The Republicans disenfranchise minority citizens in the name of ballot integrity. Where are the laws that protect ballot integrity from elected-official malfeasance?
You guys are correct, the Democratic Establishment is offensive and feckless… That is why the Progressive need to wrestle the Democratic Party back… BUT you know the U.S. is a two-party electorate and you have one of two choices in national and the majority of state elections… You both must agree that HRC would have been so much less fraudulent, criminal and incompetent than the Trumpanzee-in-Chief, even with a Republicon majority in Congress
Yates ~ Unfortunately, the Trump v. HRC election was the ultimate devil’s bargain.
Trump is a racist, moronic, Corporate tool on steroids. He’s Godzilla obliterating the China Shop. Maiming or killing everything he touches.
HRC is also an entitled racist. She’s a Corporate Raider & Warmonger. She’s the slithering snake, poisoning everything she touches. She would be FOR killing Net Neutrality. She would be PRO-yet another war.
If she had won, there would be no Ocasio-Cortez or any other Progressives shining a spotlight on the cancer that has almost engulfed our political system.
Outside of a few progressive outlets, no one would care.
Just like no one cared under Obama. Under HRC, the majority of people would still be dying in their sleep. And the DNC is looking to make sure that Bernie (or any other Progressive) NEVER becomes president!
The DNC/Dem Party is worthless.
It’s the choice of a bullet or poison…either way, the country is still dead.
Sorry, but this country deserves to have TWO or MORE parties!
Right now, we only have ONE.
chetzmom, well spoken. You were on a roll! The problem with HRC is her vote for war with Iraq, a war of choice. When politicians’ vote kills so many innocent people, finances it with tax dollars, and does it to enrich corporations, those politicians no longer have any legitimacy to lead this country. Every damn one of them should be voted out of office and never voted for again.
About political parties, Thomas Jefferson said that if belong to a political party is a requirement for entering heaven, then he does not think he would go to heaven. Of course, he said it more eloquently.
There is nothing sacred about our two-party system. Political parties are not enshrined in the constitution. One reason for that is corruption. The problem with elections is the two-party system is enshrined in some states’ laws because the parties in power write laws to discourage competition. This means it would be much harder to start a new party and register it in every state, than changing the Democrat party from the inside.
Even though Barry Goldwater lost to President Johnson in 1964, he did succeed in wresting control of the Republican party from the East Coast Elites. Similarly, the Progressives need to wrest control from the Corporate Democrats in order to re-establish the two-party system.
How can anyone be positive that had Clinton won there wouldn’t be a progressive grass roots campaign continuing to grow? It seemed to me that during the primary (while Obama was still in office) progressives had already woken up and had begun rallying together (thank you Bernie for helping us with that). Actually, it was thanks to Obama that people were angry and had enough of the establishment’s B.S. and lies. If Clinton became POTUS, some people seem so confident that we’d all just go right back to ignoring the disgusting corruption. I have a really hard time believing that it’s necessary to have a fascist in office in order to get people fighting back.
People like Ben and Michael don’t realize how badly DNC’s shenanigans against Bernie has destroyed their credibility in the eyes of progressives. It was the political version of original sin that they may never recover from. Ben is a smart guy but he has a ridiculous blind spot when it comes to understanding the gravity of what happened.
I love Ana’s No Filter. I wish she would start a whole show for financial news. She could have interviews with awesome people like Dr. R Wolff and Nomi Prins. Just saying, It would be awesome.
Fantastic! Finally, a proper panel with people who have things to say that are worth hearing. Long overdue.

Give john a podcast put damage report on the website/app
cough* Jimmy Dore. cough* Kyle Kulinski.
Can’t wait to see the McCarthyism videos tomorrow. Oh well, someone found some more witches in the hunt. Granted; until they finally come out with indictments, which are the smoking gun, they will just deny deny deny. So, I take it with a grain of salt that those indictments will come out in October.
:-) I can’t even tell you how happy I was with this power panel. I love RJ Eskow! It was also nice to see John and of course I adore Ben.
MY GOD YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOTS!
We are on the verge of war with Russia over Ukraine, the U.S installed and is supporting nazis in the revolution to kill russians, trying to close the russian off and disintegrate the country through funding separatists. Second point YOU FUCKING DOLTS: The kremlin establishment with putin does not now and has never wanted to conquer and move against the western europe and former bloc nations. They invaded georgia to stop further disintegration, they puppeted chechnya to stop the influx of terrorism in russia proper, they invaded Ukraine to stabilize and prevent the chaos of the revolution from slipping into russia, cuz ukraine is the technological and cultural heart of russia, start a neo nazi genocide and the violence affects russia. They have no inclination to conquer because THEY CANNOT AFFORD IT!!! russia is on it’s knees economically, there is no progressive tax base, no strong central bank and until recently was kept afloat through foreign cash investments and gas, already the prime minister admitted to crimean that they cannot even deliver pension payments. It is basic knowledge about russian national security that the russian establishment are “realist” pragmatic and above all cautious to ensure the stability of the russian state and have no possible route to invade estonia. They are rich fat introverted people, they care about making money with free trade and finacialization. They aren’t even the shadow of a threat against the west as long as the west stops planting nazis on their borders.
To paraphrase cenk: step aside and actually fight the established narrative. have someone debate and expose the reality of the situation on the show against you guys. I love tyt and won’t ever stop watching but please try and learn about the historical fact of the situation.
Nonsense from start to finish.
Georgia was doing what Russia did to Ukraine and this was actually within international treaties signed by Russia itself: Restore sovereignty to breakaway regions that used to have Geogrian majorities but the Georgians were ethnically cleansed.
Chechens wanted to separate long before a single bomb exploded outside it.
The Kremlin huffed and puffed when the statue of the unknown rapist, I mean soldier, was moved in a small town in Estonia cutting off the internet and gas supplies. That is not “friendly”.
Try harder.
Never said they were friendly, just not a conquering threat. Georgia was threatening to buck its support of russia and back NATO in it’s mission to disintegrate russia, and chechnya needed to be stopped or chaos would plague Russia proper. As to estonia, the rail shipments were disrupted and never were they cut off completely, they were reduced temporarily. They wanted integration with the west, not to attack it or conquer it, they cannot afford it and they do not want it. Every action of aggression that russia has taken post 1991 has been in response to the outright attacks on it’s sovereignty and peace by NATO and the west.
Cenk, over 65 percent of the population of Crimea is Russian. They prefer to be with Russia, as they often have felt to be treated as secondhand citizens by the Ukraine.
For the Western alliance to call Crimea a Russian “annexation after the Russian incursion 2 years ago depends from what point of view.
We must also look at how the revolution is perceived by russians in ukraine and other slavic peoples, a resurgence of the holocaust and an illegitamate overthrow of the regions party which positioned itself as the protector of eastern slavic people by nazis and paramilitaries. Russia is now seen in crimea as the protector of slavs and enemy of the marauding hordes from the west. It is entirely legitimate that crimea wants to be part of russia till the revolution is put down.
Actually most of those Russians are transplants who work for the Russian navy in the ports “rented” from Ukraine and are not citizens to begin with.
Plus the 400k Tatars who are eligible for citizenship were not given a voice in the matter in the first place. Read about them.
Finally just because Russians are a majority of Ukraine does not give Russia the right to occupy Crimea and annex it.
Is Turkey justified to occupy Aleppo just because a majority of Aleppo residents are ethnically Turkmen and most of them are refugees cleansed from their homes by the Syrian regime?
Uhh no thats ridiculous. Crimea was russian until 1957 or 1954. Millions of ukrainins in crimea consider themselves ethnically russian. TWO HUNDRED YEARS of crimea being russian, being ruled by russians and inhabited by russians. over 7 million ukrainians are russian and of the 7 million a lot live in crimea, most of them are not and cannot be russian transplants. The tartars were definitely either surpressed from the vote or boycotted and that is terrible. And the right for russia to take crimea comes from the right to defend the security of russian borders. The border states are like the heartbeats of russia, if war and chaos engulf them then russia will disintegrate like yugoslavia, for peace it is imperative these states are either neutral as ukraine was or pro-russian.
Try harder
First of all, read history. Crimea has around 2 million not 7 million.
Before Crimea was part of Russia (1778) it was an independent country where muslim Tatars were the majority. Muslim Tatars were the plurality until the fall of the Russian empire in 1918. After that a campaign of ethnic cleansing by the white Russians first and then communist Cossacks second reduced their numbers and caused an influx of Russians that made them a plurality by WWII. During WWII, Stalin murdered 400k tatars and exiled 300k more on account of their “betrayal” (which was nonsense as later records showed) and the Germans weren’t nice either. Their lands (they controlled agriculture) was stolen and given to nearly 1 million Russian peasants who were moved there. The transfer of Crimea to Ukraine was a transfer of a Gubernia (Taurida) that was historically managed from Kiev not from Moscow.
Second, go and look at a map. Crimea share no land borders with Russia and the closest to Russia it is is the Kersh Peninsula. The was no threat to Russian sovereignty and even if there was it does not give them the right to occupy other countries. This “right” is what Bush quoted to justify invading Iraq.
Finally, it is all about resources. Ukrainians are a majority in every single region except Crimea and the bordering regions with Russian are known for their massive iron ore reserves. This is why Russia wants eastern Ukraine.
7 million in Ukraine overall is what i said, secondly Russia has more of claim to Crimea then Ukraine does regardless of how brutal stalin and lenin were and khrushchev unilaterally gave crimea to ukraine as a gift, not as part of a gubernia which had long since been ruled by saint petersburg, and Kiev was a russian capital for at least 4 centuries anyway. Crimea does not share borders but it shares it’s borders with ukraine and makes a efficient stream for violence to flow into russia. to borrow another of cenk quotes: OF COURSE there was a threat to russia, if the weakest and most prized land of russian friendly states collapses and a neo nazi government goes on a campaign to kill impure slavics that is a direct threat to russian safety. The united states that invaded iraq is on a different universe of stability. Russia is on the brink of disorder and collapse. Irvin Studin (foreign policy expert)- “russian bureaucrats cannot think beyond 6 months cannot plan for anything beyond 6 months, their in a survivalist state”. Russia is so perilously weak in terms of stability and peace that disintegration of the federation into even smaller states is in the realm of likelihood. They cannot afford chaos, they cannot afford hostile states in their most vital regions. It is not about resource conquest it is about maintaining the trade relationship of a neutral Ukraine, they cannot even afford to keep crimea let alone all of eastern Ukraine, If the revolution dies and russia reinstate a neutral ukraine, they will return crimea to ukraine or the semiautonomous republic it was.
Fuck Sec, always sticking to partisan establishment democratic talking points on these message boards. The TYT Russia histaria is repulsive. It’s like critical thoughts don’t occur to them. What do you think Russian intelligence agents are going to do. Does the rest of the world indict CIA/NSA personnel for all the shit they do?
By that logic, should the EU slap sanctions on the US for tapping Merkels phone?
It’s beyond pathetic at this point. All these hypocrites acting like the USA shit don’t stink. And then I get, from some “oh but we can walk and chew gum at the same time” NO YOU FUCKING CANT! You have a 2 hour show and for 1 hour and 45 mins you talk about Russia and trump bullshit. I’m about 1 more stupid comment away from canceling my membership.
Jimmy please leave TYT. You’re obviously being mocked almost on a daily basis here.
Buzz…. wrong answer Cenk, The word we were looking for was … Melting Pot. So sorry, thanks for playing.
To get an indictment you need to convince a grand jury that there is proof evident, presumption great to the charges listed.
Wow, most of the TYT heavy hitters plus an old white guy like me (always enjoy RJ Escow) Feeling right at home.
Thanks!
Wow, most of the TYT heavy hitters plus an old white guy like (always enjoy RJ Escow) Feeling right at home.
Thanks!
Could it be that Trump was directed by the Guscifer and company to make that statement on air to avoid being intimately involved (eg. phones, emails, personal meetings, etc.)?
So why no mention of Reality Winters who was jailed and now pleaded guilty for exposing Russia’s intrusion?
Because despite the fact that Russia did try to interfere with the election (as you would assume for any competing foreign power), the Dems and establishment are now using it to purge themselves of any dissenters and people who challenge their authority. Reality Winters was a Bernie supporter and thus an enemy. This is just like the Reichstag fire, which historians generally agree was a legitimate thing, but used as an excuse to seize power and purge Germany of any dissenters.
So you’re arguing that the democrats are in charge of the FBI and in some grand conspiracy targeted Reality Winner for exposing Russian hacking that… hurt the democrats?
Cwalker~ I think Ulysseys is arguing that the FBI is run by the Establishment, which would include the DNC-Dems. DNC-Dems have been crying about “the Hack,” but NEVER comment on what was exposed. The DNC colluded with the Hillary campaign to crush Bernie & Bernie supporters. But, they don’t talk about that…they just scream, “Russia!” Btw, just how many elections has the United States & CIA meddled in? How many elected leaders has the CIA & US MURDERED so they could prop up a dictator?
I won’t shed a tear for ANY DNC-Dems.
They didn’t say shit when Kerry lost Ohio in 2004. The Diebold machines (Diebold CEO claimed he would ensure election for Bush) were shown to be easily hackable, thousands of ballots were lost, etc.
I think at thIs point it’s pretty clear where Occam’s Razor falls on the Russia thing.
Wow the power panel got a level up today!
Agreed. Great episode today!
