How about Eden running away in love juxtaposed with June and Nick fantasizing about doing the same?
In this article (https://variety.com/2018/tv/features/the-handmaids-tale-season-2-bradley-whitford-interview-1202865139/), Whitford likens Commander Lawrence to Robert McNamara by way of regret. I picked up on this when I saw the Basquiat painting at the foot of the landing and what looked like an O’Keeffe a bit higher up. In a hellhole like Gilead, artworks like these would be banned. He later tells Emily that his wife was an art professor before the fall of the Lower 48. However, if he were sticking to the letter of the law, any remnant of his wife’s career would have been erased. Methinks Lawrence might be up to some subversion and that he wants Emily to help him carry it out… I guess we’ll find out on Wednesday.
Regarding the fussy babies, the novel does mention the deformed “Unbaby” (Chapter 21). I wonder if there’s a connection?
