  1. I think you guys are kind of missing the point of hate crime legislation. It’s not that a crime is worse if you commit it with hate in your heart. It’s that in addition to the assault on the direct victim, you’re terrorizing or intimidating a whole community. That is arguably an additional crime. This story is obviously a misapplication of it though.

  2. I’m thinking that all this “pre-emptive” police violence is preparing us for the police state. Gotta believe that’s part of their training. This didn’t used to happen.

  3. About the cop with the taser, it can’t be right to criminalise a posture before an actual crime happens, or else some cops could make you dance while pointing their taser at you.

  5. In light of the issue of treating dogs better than humans, it’s surprising to see the issue of dogs and cats being euthanized hasn’t been put into the equation. This gives you a rough idea, from Answers.com:

    “The Humane Society of the United States estimates about 3-4 million cats and dogs are euthanized by shelters every year. The statistic is limited by the number of shelters that give such information. A disproportionate number of those 3-4 million are cats.”

    I’d heard about this because a friend of mine wanted to work for The Humane Society, and one of the first jobs was killing multiple dogs and cats quite consistently via lethal injection because the place was too full and letting them go would just lead to more reproduction and thus more homeless dogs and cats, amongst other issues.
    Healthy innocent dogs and cats (sometimes only babies) are killed daily because they were out of room to shelter them. My friend declined from the job which he deemed to stressful. As terrible as these children and adults are being treated, I haven’t heard of them being lethally injected (quite fortunately). Of course, the Humane Society and other animal shelters are not the border patrol, but I still find it inaccurate to say that our country is treating all dogs better than it’s treating these poor immigrant children. Of course it’s horrifically unjust how we’re treating these immigrants, but it’s important to get the facts straight too…I think.

      Its not even close to true, but besides that…The people mistreating children are not the same people who are fighting for animal rights. Why shit on people doing good for animals simply because there happen to be other, unrelated people harming children?

      We should be fighting to protect ALL innocents

  7. I’m not even from the US but I think the cops should say “Cross your ankles with your legs straight out” and not “Cross your legs” but I guess they are searching for minor stuff when they want to punish someone.

    Perhaps some language training for the police force to be able to explain what they mean to the public in a much more simple way?
    And also, only have one police officer doing the talking so there isn’t two different instructions at the same time.

    In Sweden Police officers tell the people being arrested to walk backwards towards the cops and then kneel down a few feet away and after that lay down in a plane posture and then put their hands on the back of their heads and then they cuff them.

    Sure we have had cases in Sweden where the cops makes unnecessary force and also death shootings but compare to the cops in America they are not as trigger happy.
    Funny thing is now they want to lower the requirements to become a police officer in Sweden because they want more cops.
    I Guess by looking at America I know exactly what the results will be…..

    Are we at the point where we just accept the police are going to taze us or pepper spray us if they’re in the mood?
