In the post-Gilead world, the United States consists only of Alaska and Hawaii. In Season 1, June’s voice-over tells us that the American flag only has two stars and that the new national capital is Anchorage.
As for Nick, I have a horrible feeling that Fred set him up. Perhaps his reassurance to Serena that he’ll make some calls was just a ruse. It’s more than just Nick’s being Holly’s biological father. It’s also that he loves June. I’m not sure if Fred wants June all to himself, if he’s jealous of the baby’s paternity, or if he’s just trying to keep her isolated, but I do think he is trying to drive a wedge between them. Did anyone else think it was more than mere coincidence that Fred arranged Nick’s marriage right after Serena told him how concerned Nick was about June?
