Hey good show Ana and John gotst dat chemistry!
The statement that the Right is pushing is an interview of Jeh Johnson by Chris Wallace. Here is what was said.
Chris Wallace: Let’s look, because you mentioned it how the Obama administration and you as Secretary of Homeland Security handled this in 2014, when there was also a spike in children, most of them unaccompanied, coming across the border. You started jailing entire families in some cases, not a lot, in some you separated children from their parents and the pictures were putting up from 2014 show pictures of unaccompanied minors in, in effect jail situations. As you look back on that did you handle it so well?
Jeh Johnson: Well Chris without a doubt the images and the reality from 2014, just like 2018, are not pretty and so we expanded family detention. We had then 34,000 beds for family detention, only 95 of 34,000 equipped to deal with families. So we expanded it I freely admit it was controversial. We believed that it was necessary at the time. I still believe it’s necessary to maintain a certain capability for families. We can’t have catch and release. And in my three years we deported, or repatriated, or returned over 1 million people, but again you can deal with this on the border. You can try different things. We did not want to go so far as to separate families, but unless we deal with the underlying causes that are motivating to people come here in the first place we’re going to continue to bang our heads against the wall on this issue.
For all the idiots who still think economics and “neo-liberalism” is why Trump got elected, here is what the highly paid white employees of Harley-Davidson who had their jobs saved by the Black man in the white house 9 years ago had to say about the tariffs and their voting intention if they lose their jobs because of them:
https://www.ft.com/content/29f24644-78f1-11e8-bc55-50daf11b720d
Before them the highly paid white employees of Carrier who lost their jobs in the “deal” Trump struck with Carrier also said a similar thing.
Face it, racism, not economics, is what got Trump elected.
Ana is already yielding to the wannabe fascists by saying that there is an “increase” in undocumented immigrants detained:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_immigration_to_the_United_States#/media/File:Immigration_Enforcement.png
The rates for attempted immigration are decreasing not increasing with seasonal fluctuations being normal:
https://blogs.sas.com/content/sastraining/2018/04/06/did-attempted-border-crossings-really-surge-in-march/
The way to fight wannabe fascists is with truth not enforcement of their idiotic beliefs.
It sounds like you are talking about the numbers attempting to cross the border while Ana was talking about the numbers being detained.
Damn fine show! Both of you brought it with all the passion TyT has. Buuut.,,, One criticism, Ana be nicer to Johnny Pie! :)
Johnny can take it – his new hairdoo has changed his image from competent master geek, to stare down the audience badass, and in a ‘reverse Samson’ phenomenon his persona has seemed to simultaneously come out of that dry witted commentator shell – breathing fire worthy to rival to the legendarily Salty Casper.
whateveris driving you John, don’t go sliding back. love the new intensity you have discovered, speaking as someone who was only so gradually warming to you, before this sudden self actualisation.
i guess ur Revenant moments in the Arctic have made you a new grittier guy?! the push u needed from glib glimmers of hope to “i’m mad as hell and….”….
We’re with you Ana, thanks for what you do. This job must be incredibly frustrating at times but you bring us sanity. Don’t ever think what you do doesn’t matter! Thanks for bringing the fire :)
Military laws and regulations strictly specify a military active duty person’s participation in partisan political activities.
Directives say that active duty military members “Cannot – Participate in any radio, television, or other program or group discussion as an advocate for or against a partisan political party, candidate, or cause.”
These regulations are in place so that all people feel as secure in the fact that the military supports and protects all of us regardless of our status.
Is Cenk at the National Citizen Leadership conference going to be on TYT anywhere?
Tried looking around YouTube, and no luck.

Re: Mr Johnson, this is what it like trying to have a discussion Young Earth Creationists and Flat Earthers. Crazy!?
44:20 Ana straight ice cold
I saw that too, poor John lol
Anna and John,
This episode of TYT is absolute FIRE. I adore seeing you both express your personal outrage at the absolute madness /ridiculousness of our current predicament. It is extremely validating to see that I am not alone in my feelings about current events.
This episode should serve as a model for all future shows. We don’t subscribe to TYT to see a nice/fair/balanced perspective. We’’re tired of the Left ceding ground to the teeth-gnashing Right on every single news story.
No more apologies. No more calls for civility. This is fucking WAR, and I won’t support anyone who acquiesces to tyranny and legitimizes evil by giving it equal coverage.
TYT, #toostrong

Greetings friends
Ana the job you do, giving people the facts, is not worthless, but you can only use reason with reasonable people. Only people who will listen to reason, will listen to facts that are contrary to their preconceived ideas. There is something that Professor Christopher Sebastian Parker said in a lecture he gave at the University of Florida about his book, “The Great White Hope.” He said, basically, that the Tea Party and Donald Trump supporters are part of a reactionary movement. They are reacting to what they perceive as an existential threat. They saw a threat to their supremacy by the election of an African American president, and they see a threat to their supremacy with the browning of America. Any rise in the status of other groups is a threat to their identity. I (my words here, not Dr. Parker’s) think these people will refuse to listen to anything, no matter how factual it is, or how much evidence there is to support it if they believe it threatens their identity. As I am writing this, I want to make it clear that I do not agree with everything Dr. Parker said in his lecture; although, I do agree with much of it. I do agree with Christopher Hedges and Bernie Sanders that some of these people can be reached by helping them to meet their basic needs. If we can help these people earn a living wage, acquire good healthcare and help them feel secure it would go a long way in helping us to change their minds. I also think that Daryl Davis’s approach of reaching out to these people and establishing relationships with them can go a long way in changing their minds. As I have written other times on this forum, Daryl Davis is an African American man who reaches out to white supremacists and KKK members, and he leads them out of their hate groups. He has collected the robes of Grand Dragons, a Grand Wizard and other KKK members as trophies of how he has saved these people from their hate.
Jon and Anna are great together
THE best maim show since Jimmy Dore & Nomiki Komst – months ago!
#abitlessCenk
Bring that fire Ana, this is why I started watching Cenk in the first place, keep it coming!
I agree! Keep it coming Ana, you´ar 100 % right!!
Some call it nitpicking, but details matter. When the hosts do not prep for a story and casually get the small details wrong, it casts doubt on the credibility of the rest of story and commentary. Anyone who read the articles on the Harley Davidson knows that they are not shifting production to the EU. Harley has assembly plants in Brazil, India, Thailand and Australia and they will be receiving more manufacturing orders to circumvent EU tariffs.
Good check, Hosam.
Yes, it is sad how often they are under prepared for a particular story.
Hear hear! I agree with ms K. Time to step up and if you have the facts with compassion, it is the time to fight. Non-violent action and words.
One should not continue in a game when the other doesnt follow set rules. Make new game.
The level of discord was a bit much tonight. Are TYT agents of the Kremlin?
They do have a Russian producer after all.
I have a few Russian friends, does that mean I’m also an agent of the Kremlin? Do you happen to have any Russian family members? Guess you’re also a Kremlin puppet.
kwknight is probably a paid troll, so yes, he or she is a Kremlin puppet.
No, no. Kwknight’s likely a paid right wing-troll. Kremlin puppets try to avoid criticism of Russia. The strategy is to equate something they hate with TYT. It’s a sad attempt to peel off anti-Russian viewers.
Problem is the criticism doesn’t make any fucking sense, typical of current Trump flunkies.
What are you talking about? Putin hacked the election. He’s the reason why we have Trump. That’s a fact. TYT use to bash Russia all the time, but not so much anymore. It’s concerning. And based on these responses, it seems like TYT viewers have been infected with Russian propaganda.
And I’m a neoliberal! Not a Trump supporter.
Why bring up Russia when none of the stories even mention Russia? If there’s a particular Russian story that TYT isn’t covering, mention it. People will overall be thankful for the break from Trump news. Saying people are Russian brain-washed because they can’t follow a line of logic which wasn’t presented seems suspicious in this climate. If you made your case earlier, you might have a leg to stand on, but your point is old old news.
Further, bringing up the nationality of a producer as a smear is in poor taste. A great deal if not the majority of American-Russians dissent with Putin.
Finally, even if Putin hacked the election, Hillary should have won in a landslide. The fact that she lost was because of a poor out-of-touch campaign that did not fight for the working class. It shouldn’t even have been close.
We need to remember the paradox of tolerance. From Wikipedia:
“The paradox of tolerance was described by Karl Popper in 1945. The paradox states that if a society is tolerant without limit, their ability to be tolerant will eventually be seized or destroyed by the intolerant. Popper came to the seemingly paradoxical conclusion that in order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance.”
This aggression will not stand. You can’t just let people do Nazi shit in the name of being tolerant. Anyone who defended the imprisonment of babies publicly deserves a harsh, unambiguous rebuke. Ana, the way things are going, if you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention.
Sorry but this shit about “tolerance of intolerant” paradox is shit.
Only people who in the deep of deeps of their hearts know they are on the wrong side of the argument believe in such paradox because it gives them the justification to clamp down on dissent.
People should have access to all ideas because only bacteria festers in darkness. No one advocating a racism let alone a holocaust type event in an open society will win.
I think you’re missing the lesson of the paradox.
I don’t think genocidal, racist, or otherwise hateful schools of thought should be kept in darkness. Quite the opposite. I want them exposed, naked, so the world can see how hideous they are. I don’t want them to have their own box on the nightly news panel in an effort to “keep it 50/50.” There are atrocities happening at the border, and that intolerance cannot be tolerated.
Popper was actually advocating “intolerance of the intolerant” because of what happened in the run up to WWII and a large number of the “intellectual” left and right support this idea.
This is what I am ranting against. Fight ideas with ideas not laws regulating thought.
I’m not sure where you got the idea that any of what was said should be law, and I’m certainly not advocating for that.
It’s just a fact of life that you can’t tolerate Nazis, the Klan, etc, because those schools of thought can’t tolerate. The paradox is that your average person hates Nazis as much as a Nazi hates Jews.
It’s not really a paradox, because to be intolerant of an ideology, you have to fight it with ideas. It’s complicated, it’s loud, it’s controvercial, and overall difficult to fight an idea, but it can only be done with words. Hearts and minds.
To be intolerant of a race, that’s simple. There are established methods that can trick the rabble into taking your side, and just start rounding them up. Kicking them out. By the time everyone finds out you’re killing them, some people are ok with it, and then other people have to come in and kill the people who are killing people, and it’s really ideal that we all don’t let this paragraph come to fruition. Nazi intolerance led to millions of dead Jews, stopping them took the lives of millions of other peoples.
It’s like the two versions of respect that you may have seen kicking around the internet over the years:
“Sometimes people use “respect” to mean “treating someone like a person” and sometimes they use “respect” to mean “treating someone like an authority.” And sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say “if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you” and they mean “if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person.” And they think they’re being fair but they aren’t, and it’s not okay.”
– Brenna Twohy
I am with you Ana!!
