Jesus fucking Christ on a pogo stick. This is how long it took me to fact-check that one — five seconds. Cenk is wrong. Duh. Anyone with half a brain cell would know that. It only took 5 seconds to verify.
I googled “Ghandi prefer fight British with guns” and the first hit was a full explanation of why that particular piece of fake news (being circulated by the Right these days) is not true. It gives the full context of the situation in which Ghandi, early in the independence movement, advocated against the government act banning Indians from owning guns. It had NOTHING to do with wanting to use guns to fight the British.
Cenk can be absolutely dangerous in how fast, loose and careless he is with the truth.
The British banned gun ownership by Indians on the grounds that Indians were not capable of being true and loyal citizens. Ghandhi urged widespread protest of the Act, on the grounds that it set a bad precedent to allow the Brits to make the case that brown-skinned people could not be full, loyal, true citizens.
Today the lunatic NRA-worshipping Right has seized on his opposition to the Act banning gun ownership as “Ghandhi would have preferred to fight the British with guns but they took all the guns away, so all he had left was non-violence” ( ! )
Cenk, we know why the lunatic wing-nuts embrace such an absurd premise.
