  1. On Roseanne:

    Living in a country that has free speech means that you hear things that offend you. While I do not agree with the things she said, I do support her right to say what she believes in (even if it is despicable). When you only hear things you agree with, you are not experiencing free speech. The push for people to never be offended by anything is something that I do not support.

    The other side of free speech is that when people speak out, others can then use their free speech to rebuke statements and issue their opinion. However, punitive actions by an employer is a response that is anti-free speech. People can boycott the show, it looses ratings and then it is canceled, that is a free speech response.

    How would we feel if a progressive actor was fired from a show for voicing support for Bernie or a progressive position? We would be outraged, and rightly so. You can’t apply free speech rights only to positions you agree with. That is not free speech.

    This is always a slippery slope. Once it starts, it’s just a matter of time until your speech is suppressed too.

    1. she wasn’t r voicing support for Trump. She called a black woman an ape. If someone on the left makes a statement like that, Bernie supporter or not, I hope that they too lose their job. Also, free speech doesn’t mean there are no consequences for what you say.

    2. Thats not what free speech is about, it means the government can’t restricted you from speaking with limitations, how every if a private company employees you its down to them. Nearly every employee will fire an employee for racism, see Facebook, twitter also County as media which is in majority of companies contracts, there have been loads of people fired for doing similar things. 3 years ago the company i work for sky warned us about putting things on Facebook if you had on your page as an employee of sky so if you said anything negative about work, costumer etc on your page it was gross misconduct as its seen as talking to the media and representing the company in a negative light. What roseanne done was the Same on a higher level it wasn’t about her politics it was using Ape in a racist way company’s like this maim focus is money, losing investors is why she was most likely fired

      Additionally, criticism of someone’s else’s speech is NOT suppression of their speech. It is also free speech.

    America seriously needs socialized medicine and mental health funding. These are issues that affect generations.

  6. Question…Why were some of the children placed with sponsors who are undocumented or questionably “legal” immigrants? Did I miss something? Then they obtained only ONE contact number? You can’t board a dog at a kennel w/o at least TWO numbers!

    Also, after the Hollywood sex slave scandal, isn’t there a concern that there are a large number of minors that NO ONE knows where they are? It may sound a bit tin-foil hat, but if you are in the business of kiddie porn, a passel of undocumented kids could be a goldmine.

    This story is horrific on so many levels.

  9. Considering what USA did to Lybia after they negotiated a stop to their nuclear program and more recently breaking the Iran deal , on what planet do you think North Korea would trust USA enough to denuclearise?
    This has nothing to do with being against Trump, it’s more about how can the USA be trusted to keep their side of the bargain.? Also, remember the lies told about Iraq to justify an illegal invasion? Would this invasion have happened if Iraq had nuclear weapons? Surely this recent history would not be lost on Kim Jong-Un

      Qaddafi wasn’t as cooperative as the media portrays him to have been and the war went badly and was threatening Europe, which was more enthusiastic for war than the US, with a flood of refugees. The refugee crisis did come but for different reasons.

      Burma and South Africa both denuclearized and nothing happened to them and in the case of Burma there is huge oil reserves and allies willing to invade.

        Also I can’t see why the USA not invading Burma or South Africa is an relevant argument that they can be trusted to keep to their side of the bargain with North Korea.

  10. I don’t understand why ABC is getting praised for firing Roseanne so quickly. She’d been tweeting that kind of crap for years before they greenlit the reboot.

    They wanted to do a show representing MAGA-America, well that’s what she was doing. A lot of people in Trump country are repulsive bigots. Don’t sugarcoat it. Show the world as it is.

  14. To the point of Roseanne not being all there. She might not be, she might actually have serious problems but has anyone considered she plays it up to get a free pass on stuff. She has done a lot of messed up things in her career and the fact that she “might not be all there” is something that is ALWAYS brought up as a possible defense. Yet when she’s doing well, it’s never an issue? Look I don’t like diagnosing people either, and I appreciate Ana walking that line, but I think it’s worth considering that it might be something she plays up. It might not even be something played up JUST to get away with stuff either but for attention.

    Point two even if she has issues yes she still needs to be held accountable. She is clearly functioning (no matter what those issues are) so she gets no free passes. If she needs help she should get it. In the meantime, she doesn’t get to be a racist just because she might have some mental health issues.

    Now a further point that is less about Roseanne and more about like Alex Jones and other people mentioned. I really wish there were different classifications of “crazy”. People with depression, bipolar disorder, etc often get lumped in with people like Alex Jones. This part of my comments is completely self-serving but it just kind of annoys me. I am not saying that TYT did this here at all just that crazy and CRAZY all get sort of lumped together. And yes people with certain disorders can have meltdowns but they aren’t usually long-running episodes of I’m going off the deep end, being racist, believing in pizza gate, etc etc

  15. Why in the world do we have corporations detaining undocumented immigrants? How can the government detain these people and then essentially sell them over to private businesses? We should A) just process and release them asap B) if we do detain them that should be a burden the government should facilitate. In my opinion

  17. The Korean waitresses who “defected” to the south were categorically and undoubtedly KIDNAPPED! They were led believed that they would be able to return home. They want to return home to see their families and the DPRK don’t demand that they be handed to their custody, only that they be allowed to list their family and eventually return.
