Hi guys. I know I’m late to the game, but hopefully Malcolm (or even Steve) will catch my comment.
Totally support the purpose of expanding out the network, adding content + especially getting broad viewership to our progressive perspectives. What I don’t get, is why do we not ever get access to the content at all?
Even if you wont put it on the livestream, why can’t we see it later? It’s not produced by another network like Fusion or Current or MSDNC. It’s completely TYT network, start to finish. The new content should be on-demand later for the members, contractually. You caved —and you probably thought you needed to— but you shouldn’t have.
Surely, it’s a separate revenue stream. We get that. But we did also chip in for the studio. The least you could do is get members a $10/mo discount on the youtube-tv service. Or something.
btw, Kulinski and Humanist Report are decent shows, and I think you’re showing Ring of Fire too, which is great, but isn’t Sam Seder/the Majority Report connected to TYT network as well? That show is excellent.
Also the regular post games are for us. Tho I would support sharing the fpg, cuz it’s genuinely awesome. Just leave the member-specific discussion 2b used as edited commercial time for youtubetv, and put that *here* for the 19 of us.
I’m late commenting on the FPG so no one (meaning Malcolm) may notice, but I have a few points about TYT:
1. Since the new shows belong to TYT (as far as I know), why can’t they be posted here in full after a delay of some sort – a couple of weeks, a month, something – so that members can still get what Cenk always said in the past, “all the shows, commercial free”?
2. Why do the videos for Reporting In, Nerd Alert, What The Flick, etc never appear on the front page anymore? I thought Reporting In had stopped production since I never see it anymore. Since Malcolm mentioned it, I decided to search for it and sure enough there were several episodes I missed.
3. Speaking of the front page, why do the member communication posts never appear on the front page? It seems like if you really wanted to keep members informed you would post it on the front page. Or am I crazy?
4. Speaking of What The Flick, why is there not a download button for this show? I can never make it through a whole episode because I watch at work and ALWAYS get a phone call in the middle of it. I pause it and no matter how quickly I unpause it, it ALWAYS starts back at the beginning. After a couple tries, I always end up giving up on the episode. You may wonder why I don’t watch on YouTube where it can be safely paused. Well I almost never watch any TYT content on YouTube. I watch everything on a fairly old Kindle which does not play YouTube videos naturally. I try sometimes to use another app, but half the time it doesn’t work either. So my preference is to download from the TYT website.
5. As a faithful member (#50 I believe) and part of the “19+” FPG viewers, I just wanted to add this comment so I can maybe one day win the possibility of requesting a free t-shirt. I think Malcolm favors those who comment on the FPG in his choices of who Steve and Dave (or their fill-ins) play for.
Bitches be bitchin. Either enjoy your membership and content, like I do, or cancel and pout. I’d love to get YTTV but cant afford it now, but that’s my problem to deal with, not TYT’s. This is a great move for the network, and thus the left movement, so its a win for everyone either way.
Yeah, Brett!! get it buddy. Funny, I almost missed this post game because my wife had guests in from out of state for memorial weekend :). Friday post games are the best!!
Brett is embarrassing and infuriating. Get the hook. This isn’t news or particularly interesting. Enough of the juvenile blather about inhouse issues . Where’s the truth to power you mention? Don’t talk abut doing it! Actually do it when you have air time.
Please do more episodes of TYT Classics. Love watching Cenk and Ana looking back at funny/awkward/entertaining moments. Such a great thing you guys were doing with that, but the last episode you did was in August of last year. Very watchable; one of my favorites. Would love for you guys to do start doing those again!
I think I recall an episode of Old School, or maybe a Post Game, in which Cenk discusses friends who have difficulty being truly happy for the accomplishments of others. Some of the You Tube TV back lash has been a bit like that. Imagine if your friend was accepted into Stanford but you were not. You’d feel a bit let down, betrayed, left behind, inadequate, etc. Then you might begin justifying those feelings with arguments that highlighted the negative sides of prestigious colleges and left out any of the benefits, all while slowly ramping up the tone and tenor of your comments. At least you might do that if you were the type who couldn’t really be happy for the accomplishments of others.
Also, the St. Louis Arch has recently been renovated, as have the surrounding arch grounds. From what I understand, the new museum beneath the arch will focus more on the workers and processes involved in its construction than the previous incarnation did. Perhaps that might be to shift focus from a symbolic gateway toward a feat of engineering. St. Louis public radio (KWMU 90.7) has, as one can imagine, covered this quite a bit. Included in that coverage was an element of racial tension that existed during the time period surrounding the arch construction, yet another thing the two legs of this monument connect. Unfortunately, when my family and I visited the Arch a couple months ago, the museum was not yet open. We did ride the tiny Wonka-vators to the top though, which is always a lot of fun. As an adult, I never before realized how cramped the whole experience is. Definitely take a breath mint before you get in the elevator car…just a suggestion. Then ,when you get to the top, let your breath be taken away by the view.
Isn’t more akin to a woman who financially and emotionally supports her husband through medical school and then gets angry when he dumps her for a younger woman after he becomes a doctor? Sure, he’s paying child support but he’s no longer her husband and partner.
Really glad the Post Game will go back to member’s only. It’s way better when TYT doesn’t have to worry about saying something the exact right way and instead just lets the conversation flow. Some of the best TYT post games come when something un-pc triggers a whole line of conversation.
I’m never going to tell any other member that they should be happy or unhappy with the return on their membership dollars. Most of the criticisms expressed by members are perfectly legitimate and should be addressed. I can only speak from my own perspective.
Regarding the extra programming on Youtube TV, I look at it this way: Suppose you frequent an all-you-can-eat restaurant in which everything they make is included. Now they decide to create a few more dishes but they will only be available from the menu and not with the all-you-can-eat deal. It would be nice to try those dishes but I probably won’t pay extra money for them. And I still get the same all-you-can-eat items, which have expanded over time but for the same price I’ve been paying for years.
Thanks, Frank! I’m not suggesting that this kind of unconditional, fulsome praise will give you the inside track toward being selected for an upcoming installment of WWN, but I’m also not saying it won’t!
As an instructor of art history and American studies, I enjoyed the discussion about the Gateway Arch and Manifest Destiny. How many other news outlets do that? And, Steve, I sympathize! Stanford rejected me for a postdoc two years ago.
I think the upset about the you tube TV thing is that it’s TYT network content, that members don’t have access to. The other things that you mentioned as not being available to members are on other networks, this is still a TYT network that happens to be aired by You Tube. I think we just feel the content from that network should be available on this network as well. Shows that are aired on other networks are a completely different thing and I, at least, don’t expect to have access to those there. The you tube TV content is TYTs content, yes? It’s not owned by You tube. So, why can’t you air or post it here as well? Networks on aired on varies cable or satelittes companies all the time, so I see no reason you can’t post the content on tytnetwork.com. I just cut the cord for a reason and don’t intend to add another one. If I wanted to spend $40 on programming, I’d add cable to my internet package. I don’t think anyone begrudges you growing at all.
Well said! You’ve summed up my thoughts exactly! I think the YouTube deal is great, but I also think we should have access to these new shows for all the reasons you listed.
I wish there were a place for me to express thoughts about the Friday postgame, but since this forum on the YouTube TV decision is as good as any, I guess:
What happened there? Did Steve just change the rules because he lost? Should I try to collect?
Okay, everyone is still freaking out about YouTube TV. I have been a member for …at least 8 years, I think. I understand the need to grow and reach a larger audience. We, as members are not losing anything that we already had. Sure, there is some new content on YouTube TV that we can only watch short clips of. But again, we are not losing any of the content we already had.
And Brett, shut the fuck up! You are a great host and a wonderful person. When news is depressing (as is most days) and I see you are on one of the hours, I get excited.
I am a member for the express purpose of supporting TYT in spreading truth – to everyone, everywhere. stay strong!! I was 4/5 on WWN, I live in SL and the arch is an amazing accomplishment, but white people are still the scourge of the earth – sigh
Steve, I’m glad you gave a more comprehensive description about what TYT is doing. At least some information is the best way to calm the excitement accompanying this change. No, it won’t satisfy everyone. But it’s the best way. Does Cenk understand this?
I experienced the top of the St Louis Arch the week it opened. My dad took the family on many interesting vacations when I was a kid. The elevator ride is much more of a memory than the view from the top.
I got behind in my TYT, so I’m adding this comment a week after the show aired. Thus there is a good chance that it will never be read. I moved to the ST. Louis area right after the arch was built. The construction details were pretty amazing. (Now this is only from memory and I haven’t even read the Wikipedia info, but I think this is correct). 1. Since it wasn’t clear from the discussion on the show, the arch was built from the ground up. Measurements were done at night because the St. Louis heat might affect the accuracy of the measurements during the day. If they made an error of 1/16 of an inch at the bottom, the two “legs” would not meet at the top. It was quite an engineering marvel- as they added to the legs, they built tracks into the legs to take the next section to the top. They had to make sure that the strength of the concrete and steel was sufficient to support the next section until the two legs met at the top. Remember, the structure was curving away from here it had the most support, which was directly above the base. Once they were finished it took a while to remove the tracks and patch the holes in the stainless steel where the track was bolted into the arch.
YouTube TV isn’t available everywhere in the US and NOWHERE OUTSIDE … so you are giving your members only content to YouTube for A SMALLER AUDIENCE …
… and NO Steve – this IS NOT THE SAME AS CENK DOING MSNBC – did you give all your members only content to MSNBC for THEM to profit off of everything your members did for you?
Members made TYT possible.
Members ALSO lobbied for Cenk on MSNBC when he asked.
Members also paid for their first investigative reporter … Jordan Chariton.
Members also paid for MORE investigative journalists.
Members also paid for a New Studio.
Members are the reason that Justice Democrats took off. If not from cash, from word of mouth.
Members also are the reason that the “TYT Army is TOO Strong.”
So WHY the fuck are we suppose to now pay MORE to YouTube, for christ’s sake, to watch any new shows?
Shouldn’t they be available to Members, since we are the fucking reason they even have the “word of mouth” free advertising to begin with?
WE are the reason there even IS a TYT!
Btw, Cenk, not everyone in the country (particularly the fly-over states) lives with Cali-style price-tags and Cali-style budgets. Paying $200 plus for cable, plus every other platform, maybe be nothing to YOU, but it’s not the same in the rest of the country.
Btw, AP is the ONLY hard-core progressive show on TYT, and the main reason I still am a member.
The Main Show is no where near as edgy or progressive as it was just 5 years ago!”
I suggest you peruse May 17 Hr 1 and Post Game – and particularly May 18 Hour 1 when you guys lit the dumpster fire that was Carol Costello … if you just think that we’re mad because we’re not getting the new shows – you need to pull your heads out of your asses and take a look around …
TYT relax! Xenophrenia’s reaction is predictable, and and will always be the same. This will be true for at least a few of members. Change is scary. I’m hoping it works out the way you hope and expect.
Hey Xeno! Glad to see you’re finally starting to realize you were wrong, all along! It’s actually pretty big of you to apologize to your ass-clownish behavior in the TYT comment sections these past couple weeks. You are right, TYT expanding their audience while remaining true to the cause actually is a good thing! Don’t worry bruh! We all totally forgive you :) Stay strong, brother.
Still no explanation for the appearance of Carol Costello on the very first Power Panel for YouTube TV. A woman who represents everything TYT claims to be fighting against in the MSM. A woman who pushed the Bernie Bro nonsense in 2016 and spewed a study stream of horse crap on TYT like, “Maybe we do need fewer doors on schools!”, “Rudy Giuliani is a nice guy!” and “Republicans are trying on gun violence!” I guess we’re not going to get an explanation because there is no good reason they can come up with. There are two people in my family who have been watching on this account for awhile. The other family member says I shouldn’t be so hard on TYT for one mistake. I’m still so disgusted by the Costello appearance and the radio silence about it that I haven’t watched any TYT programming all week except for this postgame and I don’t know if I will. I may just try to convince my other family member that we don’t really need this subscription anymore. After all, I’ve looked through what was covered on all of this week’s shows and there was only one story I hadn’t already read about.
I’m sorry that at this time that TYT seems to have decided to ignore the whole Costillo issue which elicited an incredible number of member responses. I think it’s a (missed?) opportunity for a lot of creative energy to come out of a TYT discussion, about what real journalism should be about. It doesn’t have to be a blight on TYT–or even completely negative about her. We need to look at the environment she’s in, and why and what she thinks she HAS to say. It’s a disease infecting much of modern journalism. It would be interesting to talk to her about THAT issue, not gun violence.
I signed up for YouTube TV immediately, just for the TYT channel, and it’s worth it.
Often times, I see Millennials resistant to even the smallest bit of compromise, and I really can’t blame them, because generation after generation, we’ve seen our idols make promises, only to “compromise” with the other side… and I totally get the “enough’s enough no compromise purity test” attitude, but compromise isn’t necessarily a “bad word” and sometimes you have to give a little, to get a lot. Thanks for driving that point home in the post game. I have faith in the TYT team to keep it real, no matter how big it gets. I can’t wait for the day that TYT is a household name on the same level as FOX, CNN, MSNBC and the rest of the shitty corporate news outlets.
it happening with YouTube TV … people don’t want cable – that’s why it’s losing ground … they put themselves on a platform that REACHES FEWER PEOPLE THAN YOUTUBE PROPER … YouTube TV isn’t available everywhere in the US and NOT AT ALL outside of the US …
I am from and live in St. Louis. The arch has a natural history museum underneath it which is where you also get into the elevators which go up and down on both sides. The observation deck looks over Busch Stadium (STL cardinals) and the city from one side, and The Mississippi River and Illinois (farms) on the other. There is a gift shop and movie theater giving the history of the arch underneath it as well. For anyone coming to St. Louis and not afraid of heights. It’s a pretty cool experience.
Contrary to all the Brett hate, he’s my new favorite host. I’ve been a member for a few years now and he’s the only one to acknowledge the existence of the stargate program. The rest of the hosts are just blindly following the air forces direction.
Uh, slow and steady? We’re working our way through Peter Joseph’s book and hope to have him on to discuss at some point when we’re (translation: “I’m”) finished with it.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who enjoys Brett’s slightly goofball approach – we need some light relief from all this serious terribly disturbing / saddening news.
Now he has a whole show based on that premise, and altho i’m bummed out i won’t be able to watch, I hope it’s a big success for him, as he deserves it, IMHO
I totally understand the youtube tv deal. At first I was a little bummed I won’t be able to watch full episodes of the new shows but tyt membership is still a better deal than youtubetv for me.
Steve is sounding very politically correct today. “Cenk was on MSNBC and that wasn’t available content to Members”! Yes, Steve because that was a MSNBC program NOT TYT! “John Iadarola has True North that’s not available to Members”! Yes, Steve, because that is not a TYT program, it’s Go90. BUT… True North IS available to all members who are interested without extra cost. Youtube TV is not available to current, long term members without extra cost. You’re talking about the power you would have being in 100,000,000 homes? That’s pretty much what you hold current establishment media to today, too much power in “establishment news”. Sounds like the power corrupts scenario to me. I’ve heard your explanation, I’ve heard what Cenk has had to say about this issue and I still feel like you’ve began to tread on the people who have made you current situation possible for the sake of garnering more power. To me that stands against everything I started watching TYT for, in the first place. Don’t be fooled that your expansion will be better for your message
Trauma65, dont be such a Negative Nancy. Spreading progressive perspectives more widely is a broader vision we need to embrace. You would prefer progressive news to remain a small exclusive club who can complain about the world’s problems, but never change minds of the masses who can help affect change?
Paraphrasing Malcolm – at least give them a chance… before chucking your toys out the pram, Debbie Downer
Steve, thanks so much for the whole explanation of the YouTube TV thing ang TYT’s long term vision. It is very much appreciated. But I’ve got to tell you, you would have spared yourself a whole lot of grief if you had explained ahead of time that the Post Game going on YTTV would be only a temporary thing. I wish you all the best in this venture and look forward to great things.
Malcolm your various answers in the quiz were really creatively realistic. Thanks to Steve for the discussion on YouTube TV’s strategic importance to TYT.
Comments
If you want to add another show, might I suggest a show where Steve Oh dances? The Behind the Scenes clip of Steve dancing brings me JOY!
Where are those clips? I haven’t seen them, can you post a link? Thanks!

That’s all folks.

Yeah, Brett!! get it buddy. Funny, I almost missed this post game because my wife had guests in from out of state for memorial weekend :). Friday post games are the best!!
I can’t even get Youtube TV here in my zip code :( So even if I wanted to pay for and see all of the new content, I cannot…

I really enjoy the Friday post-game. I only picked up on it like a month or so ago, and I’m hooked. How did I miss this for so long?
During your times of trial and suffering, when you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that the Friday postgame carried you.
I had no idea that Malcom is such a staunch Lutheran
All 19 of us that watch the friday post game should get tee-shirts. I’m not saying anything, I’m just saying…..
Agreed!!
Friday Post Game is my favourite thing on TYT

Brett should be careful with his temporally-non-linear assertions, lest he cause a time paradox.

I’m hoping it works out the way you hope and expect.
sweet essay
Incredibly well put.
Get in the people’s homes, then we can get the progressive ideas in their heads.
it happening with YouTube TV … people don’t want cable – that’s why it’s losing ground … they put themselves on a platform that REACHES FEWER PEOPLE THAN YOUTUBE PROPER … YouTube TV isn’t available everywhere in the US and NOT AT ALL outside of the US …
household name …
I am from and live in St. Louis. The arch has a natural history museum underneath it which is where you also get into the elevators which go up and down on both sides. The observation deck looks over Busch Stadium (STL cardinals) and the city from one side, and The Mississippi River and Illinois (farms) on the other. There is a gift shop and movie theater giving the history of the arch underneath it as well. For anyone coming to St. Louis and not afraid of heights. It’s a pretty cool experience.
Thank you, Steve, for the description! I support your vision!
Contrary to all the Brett hate, he’s my new favorite host. I’ve been a member for a few years now and he’s the only one to acknowledge the existence of the stargate program. The rest of the hosts are just blindly following the air forces direction.
Great FPG, glad Malcolm is back. Any word on what’s happening with the book club?
Uh, slow and steady? We’re working our way through Peter Joseph’s book and hope to have him on to discuss at some point when we’re (translation: “I’m”) finished with it.
Which is the book? I missed that part..
Brett jokes about it but it’s absolutely true, he does drag down the quality of any show he’s on. At least he’s aware of it.
This is funny – might be the first time I’ve seen the Friday post game (shot on Thursday) covering a story that was covered on the Friday show.
Yes, I noticed that too! Only a matter of time till the three amigos anticipate the news again.
..and Bret apparently being unaware he was on the show broadcast beforehand!
Oh yes, our impact is growing. #Proud19+
Very excited about TYT moving to new platforms and a broader audience. Steve, have you seen what the numbers of TYT viewers are so far on YouTubeTV?
YouTube TV HAS A SMALLER AUDIENCE THAN YOUTUBE … it isn’t available in many areas in the US – and NOT AT ALL outside of the US
I totally understand the youtube tv deal.
Paraphrasing Malcolm – at least give them a chance… before chucking your toys out the pram, Debbie Downer
well I take it you like getting fucked over? how dare someone point out how they’re screwing you? …. YOUTUBE TV HAS A SMALLER FOOTPRINT THAN YOUTUBE …
it’s different from MSNBC because TYT didn’t give all of it’s content TO MSNBC – this is NOTHING like that … so he’s LYING TO YOU …
“YOUTUBE TV HAS A SMALLER FOOTPRINT THAN YOUTUBE …”…so far!
Great show and hilarious ending.
Malcolm your various answers in the quiz were really creatively realistic. Thanks to Steve for the discussion on YouTube TV’s strategic importance to TYT.
Thanks! I think it may help if I don’t do Old School and get buzzed before going home to come up with them on Wednesday night. Just a theory.
way too hard. I do like the combo trio though. The Friday show is kind of meant to be quirky, dare I even say nerdy.
The St. Louis Arch is a catenary, the hanging curve shape that you would get if you hold the two ends of a string.
Nope, not a catenary. It’s a hyperbolic cosine.
I’m just glad it wasn’t an inverse hyperbolic cosine.
Brett tries way too hard to be funny.
