Mark Thompson, Steve Oh, and Ron Placone. Don Lemon says Bernie did more damage to Hillary than Trump did. Trump backs out of the Iran nuclear deal. Scott Pruitt’s shopping spree. Turkish activists are facing felonies. Amazon and Jeff Bezos halting construction in Seattle because the city is planning in instituting a tax to curb homelessness the office space would provide 7k-8k jobs. MSM is very hesitant to call out people or entities for lying, or calling them liars. Steve breaks down the laws and understanding behind not calling people a liar.

If Mark was on Aggressive Progressives every week I’d be a regular watcher. Not that I don’t like the other hosts to note, but Mark is a favorite of mine. :)
Always a pleasure to hear from Mark (my favorite vegan), love you all, but: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE…get well soon Jimmy, you are missed:)
I agree that Bernie Sanders hurt Hillary, with Democrats and Independents. He hurt her by exposing her weakness on policies that are important to people. He made the campaign about ISSUES instead of identity politics, scandal and drama. He exposed how weak she was and why she never should have been the nominee in the first place. Make Sanders campaign was educating people and showing voters that they could and should expect more from their elected officials. He challenge the status quo and the establishment, that is what hurt Hillary Clinton.
A perfectly legal way to fight big ag corporations is the boycott. Too many of us blindly consume without being conscious of the cost now & in the future. Not only do turkeys etal. suffer but our land, water, air & human health do too, ie obesity, allergies, diabetes. Do your homework & stop supporting big ag & the GMO folks. Grow your own veggies or support local organic farmers & humane animal raisers. Just read Wendell Berry or Mother Earth News for monthly insights.
I live in Cobb County GA where 1 county commissioner secretly ponied up millions of dollars to build a new stadium for the Atlanta Braves baseball team. Now the budget has a $30 million shortfall so libraries will be closing as will extension offices, 4-H programs, and more. That commissioner was voted out of office but too late for the budget deficits. We can & should elect people who will not give away our tax money to be corporations who already make huge profits and don’t need more tax breaks. Delta Airlines with a $4 billion profit last year almost got the jet fuel tax waived which would have robbed public schools of much needed $30 million. So please boycott the Braves & Delta. You can hear baseball games on the radio for free & there are other airlines out there. Not so hard to boycott is it now?
With respect to the activists involved in the animal farm case, unfortunately the nobility of the cause does not justify breaking the law. These activists committed a number of crimes. Pure and simple.
They could have exposed them the old school way, by getting a job and filming, but they chose to steal. That is on them.
Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. also comitted “crimes”
But both did not steal, kill or maim. Their crimes were crimes of thought and the laws used against them were unconstitutional.
And of course they were upholding the rights of human beings not animals.
You can’t spin your way out of this even if you wanted to. This was theft. Whether the punishment fits the crime is a different conversation that must be addressed but it is theft none the less.
I’m happy for the ‘activists’ to takes the birds, they were ill and living in appalling conditions, I don’t care what the law is, I wish that they hadn’t been caught. You may have authoritarian (republican) sensibilities but in a progressive environment my humanitarian philosophy speaks more loudly to who progressives are.
The only way to compel a corporation to pay it’s taxes is for the Federal government to start using it’s powers of revoking corporate charters – the corporate death penalty if you will – for any who don’t follow our laws and contribute properly to our society. It’s time we start putting economic sanctions on dirty, scummy corporations destroying the fabric of our economy.
We also need to change that shareholder law to state that a company’s first duty is a moral one toward society and environment, shareholder profits come second. And any corporation who cannot be a good steward gets broken up, and anyone who invested in that corporation loses any and all profits for not forcing them to behave.
Corporations (with some exceptions related to banking) are chartered on the state level, their patents on the other hand are on the federal level.
As for the 2nd point, that is basically what Marxism is and we all know how that turned out. A better solution is to have a functioning government of the people by the people, you know like the one the US had since the 30s until c. 2000.
do you know anything about Marxism? Because it is not “basically” requiring from corporations to have obligations towards society first and shareholders obligations second which is the 2nd point in the previous post
I know quite a lot.
Forcing corporations to incorporate into their charters things that are not part of their mandate is what Marxism is. In Marxism, collectives must provide services at the price set by the government even if the Collective suffers a loss because the “greater good” demands it.
While corporations won’t lose money (at least not now) if they are forced to have social responsibilities before corporate profits those corporations will do what corporations always do, squeeze the margins in order to pay for those social responsibilities.
A better way to hold corporations responsible for the public in a way that is more in line with Capitalism is to use the corporate mandate of “following the law” and regulating them better.
well – no actually – you don’t …
try this for starters: Class 01 Reading Marx’s Capital Vol I with David Harvey
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBazR59SZXk
the ignorance in your commentary gives you away ;-)
try again once you know what the fuck you’re talking about
Jeff Bezos is a misanthropic asshole. If Seattle caves to him, then there is NO hope left for humanity.
I am afraid I am with Bezos on this one. There comes a time when you simply go too far and Seattle, if they adopt this law, will go too far.
Seattle politicians should look at themselves in a mirror and ask why a rich southern city of the same size and area, Houston, in a state where there is no corporate tax and no personal income tax has much lower cost of living and no major homelessness problem?
https://www.nerdwallet.com/cost-of-living-calculator/compare/seattle-vs-houston
It is not Seattle politicians and their mirror that is making cost of living in Seattle high you know. You can look it up, I don’t have time to research it for you (the cause of higher living costs in Seattle)
No they are responsible.
When it comes to housing in particular Seattle is notorious for having some of the strictest zoning laws in the country whereas there are no zoning laws in Texas whatsoever. Zoning laws are the biggest factor, bigger than even property tax which is higher in Texas than in California or New York, because they artificially reduce the availability of both land for housing and housing units per plot:
https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/11/zoning-laws-and-the-rise-of-economic-inequality/417360/
I am not advocating for elimination of all zoning laws, we saw how the lack of zoning laws in Texas saw people building in flood plains, I am asking for smart zoning laws.
I adore you Mark Thompson!!! You are an amazing host and commentator!!!
Hi Steve, I just want to let you know that a “gelding” is a male horse that has been neutered, de-sexed, castrated :) Most male racehorses are geldings
Thanks, Steve, for your answer to my comments!
And do please consider posting your new Justice project videos on the website as well, if possible. I listen to you guys at work most often (at home I do not have the time and I share home with others who enjoy other media content), but at work youtube is blocked and not accessible. For that reason I miss out on much of the TYT Politics content as well as other work you put up on YouTube only. Great improvement on posting TYT Interviews in the site, much appreciated! Do try to put up as much of the content on the site as well, thank you in advance!
Much love to all of you, plus the members, and remember, stay strong! :)
mark, you did a good job! you need to work on your aggressive voice a little for next time though.
I loved the conversation about the media and taxes etc. but I think that whole piece on ryance previos isn’t really AP material. pretty sure Jimmy would have left the obvious stuff to other people and found something less talked about to talk about. But good job guys!
get well soon Jimmy!
Missed Jimmy & Steph but it was a great show with Mark. Great reporting about the animal rights activists and Amazon v. Seattle City Council.
I quit a new pt job where some products where about Amazon Jeff Bezos when i had to work his products going against my no Amazon & JB. NOW THAT I QUIT I FEEL TODAY.
good show
Mark you just need to work on your angst, it’s a bit lacking…
No more turkey for me
I am with you
With no Jimmy its not Agressive Progressive. More like Polite Kinda Progressive. Good job to Ron trying to keep the show true to its name sake.
Cost of infrastructure to support 7,000 more people in downtown Seattle? Anybody been in downtown Seattle lately? Crowded, horrendous traffic, lack of parking, etc. – systems overloaded. Will these jobs pay a living wage or will it be more of Bezos’ SOP?
While Jimmy is the core of the show (no doubt) I really enjoyed seeing other participants step up to fill the gap whom would otherwise be less forthcoming about their own opinions, instead bouncing off of Jimmy’s ideas. I feel Stef has this problem; her opinion is too similar to Jimmy’s + a side of teacher. She doesn’t end up adding as much as other guests, staying in the shadow of Jimmy.
I think a Dore-less show every 2 or 3 months would be a nice refresher. Any more than that and we’d get Jimmy withdrawal.
I thought Mark Thompson was a great replacement for Jimmy Dore. Ron Placone would be great too. They could host two extra episodes of Aggressive Progressives per week. Steph, Steve Oh, Malcolm, or Graham Elwood would also be great as hosts or panel if Jimmy only wanted to do one day a week. More Aggressive Progressives would be great. But- even if that doesn’t happen- This was an excellent show!
I really hate this new(ish) system of breaks every 5 mins. It makes the discussion choppy and then they have to waste time reintroducing themselves and/or the topic whenever they come back. What’s the reason for it? Steve just mentioned one time that that’s how they have to do it now. But WHY?
Hi everyone, Steve Oh here!
Some comments about this episode:
– Not having Jimmy on the show was super weird for me.
– Having Mark take his place was terrific. Poor Mark was so self-conscious and worried that he’s disappoint all of you. Please tweet him your support!
– I was totally lost on the Amazon/Seattle tax story. Shame on me. I wasn’t prepared for that story and clearly need to learn more about the issues.
– I’m deeply saddened that we are now on a direct path to war with Iran. It seems as if our leaders are purposely and intentionally leading us down that path.
Thanks for watching and supporting the show! You guys are the best!
Steve
You all did great, even though we missed Jimmy, of course.
Re Seattle – when you learn from Stephanie Kelton and the other professors about our federal money, then you will wonder why STATES were defunded (back in the 90’s). States should have all big things FUNDED by the federal govt, which issues our money. The defunding was likely done to ENSURE that systems fail – infrastructure, education, etc. – so that the greedy could keep doing their TOTAL SCAM of ‘privatization’. They do want EVERYTHING privatized, because then they get to BILL THE FEDERAL GOVT ANY AMOUNT for what they do, providing massive exec salaries and millions/BILLIONS in guaranteed profits. They LIE when they tell us that they will ‘run it like a business’, and be ‘efficient’, etc. Privatization was always just a scam, duping us with lies, to get access to our basically unlimited federal money.
But Bezos is a greedy, sociopathic scumbag regardless. Here is another econ professors informing us about our country’s money, exposing the lies and propaganda we have been told for decades. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yofpo88ipmo&t=14s
And here is a blog I wrote about encouraging people to STARVE and SHRINK Walmart and Amazon. https://whatifitoldyouthis.blogspot.com/2018/01/lets-kill-walmartand-amazon-too.html
Sorry Steve Oh, but I can’t take you seriously if you’re not sporting the sun glasses.
Steve Oh – re the media and the supposed ‘balance’ (which is bullshit, meant only to ensure the mouthpieces for the corporations and establsihment) – just read The Powell Memo of 1971. That is when this REALLY got organized. The Powell Memo was circulated secretly to the wealthy to detail COMPLETE CORPORATE TAKEOVER of the country via education, media, courts, politics and policies. Powell KNEW he was pushing propaganda, and said it must be done carefully, not too obviously. smdh He and the other greedy rich HATED any criticism of unregulated capitalism, hated Ralph Nader, hated being held accountable, hated giving up any way possible to KEEP EVERY DOLLAR they could.
And then Lewis Powell got appointed to the Supreme Court. Yes, it REALLY ramped up right around that time, for sure, just as the scam of privatization got devised and taken GLOBAL by our sociopaths. And wars ramped up, because our many DOZENS of war companies could then get basically UNLIMITED federal money as of 1971. It has been a long time of being run by a cabal of sociopaths, for sure.
Hi Steve, nice to see you in the comments! I loved Mark and especially his animal rights activism. Once in while he brings us stories about industrial farming reminding us of what we eat in animal products and what the animals go through so that we can eat it. I appreciate it as the main show as well as the Friday Post Game rarely bring stories about it. Thank you all.
Plus, Ron made great points re; Amazon so his story is much appreciated as well.
Another thing: I wish TYT did not program the show to be taped on Tuesdays; I miss Malcolm very very much… I wish for that to be changed and Malcolm to again start appearing on the show. But..I guess members cannot make anything possible :)
The schedule constantly changes so I hope we can get Malcolm on more frequently in the future. Thanks for watching and thanks for caring!
Steve, there’s no way you’re this polite in real life :p
Mark did a great job, a particularly how he bracketed the environmentalist protestors story.
A lot of us arent on board for diverting resources to animal rights when we are rapidly losing human rights. Mark’s framing of that story had me on board despite the differences in our mindset/approach.
Aggressive criticism: Next time hes hosting, Mark needs to set the proper tone by flexing his biceps while aggressively grunting at the camera. I NEED to see Mark do this!!
Also, Mark, you’re possibly the second most loved host on TYT – second only to Jimmy Dore. You’re the perfect fill-in host!
Get well soon, Jimmy! The first 30 seconds without Jimmy was a bit of a shock, but luckily I’m a big fan of you three. :)
What Don Lemon is actually saying is that telling the truth about Hillary Clinton (Bernie) damaged her more than any lies Donald Trump told about her.
It’s not surprising Hillary didn’t take Sanders as a VP, she didn’t think she needed progressive support to win, and having Sanders as VP would hinder her neo-liberal agenda.
The turkey terrorism charges reminds me of Edward Snowden’s charges. The people who abuse? Go off scot free. The people who let everyone know about the abuse? Lock’em away!
same with Chelsea Manning
Jimmy: The current pain in your balls is NOTHING compared to the pain in the balls you have been for corporate whores in government! Get well and get back
Mark is a phenomenal host, certainly one of the best on the network. He has an authoritative and clear voice, he structures the conversation without dominating it, and he provides valuable insight. He has great rapport with the other hosts too. Everyone seems to be in a great mood when Mark is on. I missed hearing from Jimmy and the Miserable Liberal of course, but this was a great episode.
right on
Agreed
Steve needs to educate himself on Seattle, Washington tax structures, and Amazon. He literally sounds clueless on every relevant point in this story.
I totally agree. I was not prepared for that story. I’m educating myself on that now.
Hey Steve, a gelding is a castrated male horse ;)
TurkISH activists? Hate to nitpick, but… bruh.
When Mark is on the main show, I skip ahead so I do not have to hear him tell his co-hosts they made a great point and repeat what they said. He brings very little to any discussion. This show has been handled with two people before. He’s not needed. Instead, I’ll try to find a live feed from the Middle East and watch the world burn as Trump fiddles with his Twitter.
Mark really did a great job hosting!
Great job hosting Mark. Love your energy and passion; a real progressive.
How prescient as to the importance of this. Israel attacked Iranian stations in Syria an hour later and, as of an hour or so ago, Iranians are now lobbing missiles into the Golan heights. This is Wednesday evening Pacific time as I write. Are we seeing the result of trumps insane decision alone, or is this a beginning of a third world war?
Steve Oh is right on. Bernie was a great soldier at great cost. If the Dem party would get their heads out of their you-know-whats, they could capitalize on what could be an enormous base. But I guess winning isn’t the ultimate goal.
correct – winning is not the primary goal.
keeping the money flowing into their own corrupt pockets is the primary goal. Bernie and progressives would upset that apple cart.
Can’t think of a better replacement for Jimmy than Mark.
Love your passionate Bernie/Hillary analysis. Don Lemon is just another CNN corporate shill. Glad you covered this. The Democrats are completely pathetic.
Great job, Mark, Steve and Ron! Miss you, Jimmy!
NO JIMMY?!?!? Cant be Aggressive Progressives without the aggressive guy.
nice job on the show mark thompson!
and welcome zach to the team!
I miss you Jimmy!!!! Still showing love for Steve, Ron and Mark
by the way!
very happy to see the show can go on even without Jimmy!
Graham would have been good with this group as well
Wow, this is up a bit faster than normal. Thanks TYT! Feel better, soon, Jimmy!
the new time of the show is Tuesdays at 3p so these should be on the site earlier in the week now
It’s been on Tuesdays for a while, I believe (or did I miss something?) Yet, it was taking two days to get the stream up.
Since I bitched about it being slow before, I thought it only right to do the opposite when things are getting better.
Nonetheless, the show should be up Tuesday night, but hey, progress.
wish the progress was a bit more aggressive…
