“Aggressive Progressives” is genuinely the only hour and a half per week where I don’t feel deeply alone in my outrage of what this country has become. Another brilliant episode. Major gratitude to Jimmy, Stef, and Steve Oh for being one of the few forces that call out the nearly incessant gaslighting which has so affected me personally and in which I see our country is now fully enveloped in in nearly every part of our lives.
I don’t think you have enough faith in humanity, as Michio Kaku says, we are almost a type 1 civilization, maybe corruption is the catalyst to something greater than black or white. Relax, problems have a tendency of working themselves out.

Have you studied history which involves humanity’s reaction to the cataclysm of fascism? Mankind’s sins of omission are so very predictable.
Bring Steve O to Chicago!
I get nervous when I see Jimmy agreeing with trump…. Both seem to have similar stances about Maggie H.
While I agree the SHS defense is B.S. If she truly is the source, and its that source thats leading to the damaging anti trump articles: https://www.nytimes.com/by/maggie-haberman . Then honestly maybe protecting that does more moral good in the long run then calling her out here. just some food for thought.
Great set by Michelle Wolf but I think I can improve on her ‘smokey eye’ joke.
She should have used the line ‘Maybe she’s born with it . . . Maybe it’s make believe!’
Absolutely LOVE your show!!!! Love LOVE LOVE Stef!!!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!!!
Jimmy, I honestly think the reason they were “so upset” with the Sarah Huckabee-Sanders “smokey eyed” joke, was because they associated it with her lazy eye. So they took it as saying that Sarah smokes so much that she has a lazy eye, they are just too cowardly to admit it.
Love Michelle Wolf to pieces. The only thing I’d be critical of would be getting the Maddow joke backwards. You go to buy shampoo, candles, history of the Byzantine empire and a million other things, but she’s selling only one thing – Russia.
Hillary is like light itself. She’s the spotlight hunters use at night that freezes deer in their tracks so the hunters can shoot them easier.
lol
Why don’t Walmart workers and fast food workers and X, Y and Z workers form a union?
Great show and thanks to the whole crew. What are the three keys to comedy? Repetition, repetition, repetition. But I have heard your show before and I know the punchline. They still don’t have clean drinking water in Flint? The answer is not to supply them with Nestlé bottled water. It would be better to fix their water system, and it might mean starting from scratch. I researched Earthships and they have water collection systems that they build as community projects. Maybe they can ask a third world country to send advisors to help them organize how to dig wells and distribute the water. Shouldn’t the government do this? It has been four years and nothing has happened, where is the people’s initiative?
Why don’t Walmart workers and fast food workers and X, Y and Z workers form a union?
I have been advocating for almost 10 years to have a Green Revolution. I have found that there is massive resistance from the Fossil fuel lobby, but also the automotive industry, the military industrial complex, the financial sector and the politicians. Recently we had a story in a Swiss paper and it was titled “Fossil Fuels are resisting”. Meaning they are resisting a change to renewable energy. They were almost proud that they are not respecting the Paris Accords. No one talks about the fact that if we accepted abandoned assets one half of the wealth of all central banks, retirement funds, financial portfolios would be cut in value by at least half. In this article they used the bullshit lie that we have been leveling off our CO2 emissions for the last several years. We have actually increased the rate since 2010. The source for these overreaches is the WEF in Davos. They are the ones that print various articles about electricity being so cheap that they are giving it away, ot that Germany is producing 86% of their electricity from renewables.
Why don’t Walmart workers and fast food workers and X, Y and Z workers form a union?
I am not angry at you, Jimmy et al. I am not angry at all of the people who act like sheep and don’t do anything to help themselves. I reserve my anger for the dog trainers.
By the way, Jimmy, I just had a call from the president of the committee at Ebullition in Bulle, Switzerland. They are well known on the European Music circuit. I have proposed that you come here with Lee Camp and give a show. It would be best if you contact them directly:
prog@ebull.ch
You already have one ticket sold, and I will buy everybody a beer.
Please take a look at the “Peaceful Revolution” that occured in Grenada In March of 1979, and the U.S. response to that occasion.
My union, Food and Commercial Workers Union 1776 just keeps selling us down the river. They just caved on Labor Day! We’ll be working that day. FACWU 1776 became a company union over the last few years in PA.
So was there an official change to the Aggressive Progressives schedule? Please advise, this is the BEST TYT SHOW bar non!
Every Tuesday @12PM
I’m surprised no one here commented about the Handmaid’s Tale reference…I thought that was hilarious, but the truth that lies in it is so relatable. I’ll give a quick background.
In Handmaid’s Tale, there’s a sudden downfall in the rate at which women are able to give birth, which leads to a worldwide population crisis (I dunno, may be something in the water—it doesn’t give a reason why). This leads to a group of powerful men overriding the American gov’t, using the Christian religion as a means of oppressing the people, and coming up with a system of how to run things. Margaret Atwood took real things in history that happened, added a modern and “Christian twist” to it, and wrote this story.
Each elite family is given a Handmaid, who has to have sex with the man of the house and give birth to his child. Look into how they do that…it’s a gross misrepresentation of the Old Testament in my opinion, but *that’s the point* of it: rich, powerful men take the Bible out of context and use it for their own selfish agenda. That said, the Handmaid doesn’t get to keep the child, it goes to the family. Then, she gets to go serve another family.
These handmaids are trafficked back and forth between different elite families to give birth to children. The “Aunts” are the ones who keep an eye on the handmaids to make sure they don’t act out of line, along with regulating the day-to-day life of the handmaids. There’s a lot more to it than that, but the Handmaids are very grossly mistreated. Michelle Wolf’s joke on Mike Pence and Sarah Huckabee-Sanders with The Handmaid’s Tale reference is great because it takes their political/religious views and lines it up with this novel. “Aunt Coulter” is another joke lining up with this.
Here’s some referencing summary information
The Handmaid’s Tale is a dystopian novel[2] by Canadian author Margaret Atwood,[3][4] originally published in 1985. It is set in a near-future New England, in a totalitarian state resembling a theonomy, which has overthrown the United States government.[5] The novel focuses on the journey of the handmaid Offred. Her name derives from the possessive form “of Fred”; handmaids are forbidden to use their birth names and must echo the male, or master, whom they serve.
Douthat, Ross (24 May 2017). “‘The Handmaid’s Tale and Ours'”. The New York Times. Now, in the era of the Trump administration, liberal TV watchers find a perverse sort of comfort in the horrific alternate reality of the Republic of Gilead, where a cabal of theonomist Christians have established a totalitarian state that forbids women to read, sets a secret police to watch their every move and deploys them as slave-concubines to childless elites.
The Handmaid’s Tale explores themes of women in subjugation in a patriarchal society and the various means by which these women attempt to gain individualism and independence. The novel’s title echoes the component parts of Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, which is a series of connected stories (“The Merchant’s Tale”, “The Parson’s Tale”, etc.).[6]

Truly great show as usual. I didn’t really know what May Day was until this year but I always wondered why everyone has a cookout on Labor Day, never made sense but now I get it – distraction. Give the undereducated masses a day off with instructions to grill meats & veggies while drinking beer & everyone forgets May Day. It’s so unbelievably frustrating to realize just how fucked our country really is. Really appreciate Jimmy, Stef & Steve & everyone at TYT for bringing us the truth. Thanks guys.
“Hey, you don’t have to laugh at this.”
That’s my guess!
Maybe Jeff Bezos knows that the planet seems doomed – where will all that money take him? lol
I had no idea you could even spend $500 on dinner.
Sorry I had my political satire shows confused. Wolf was on comedy central, i believe Natalie is the name of the woman on RT, both of them are a bit much for me. But line I said she nailed the roast
When I first saw the Wolf criticism, I immediately thought of Jimmy. Did media say, “Yeah, Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a misogynist liar, and these are all the reasons why! Why aren’t we reporting this?! What about Flint?” Nah! They attack the powerless comedian!
Michelle Wolf did not go far enough! I would love to see Jimmy do a White House Correspondent’s Dinner. Somehow comedians instead of journalists are our standard for integrity. What a world.
its too bad steve doesn’t really care about jeff bezos. i think there is actually a lot that could be learned by exposing the practices they employ at his company that increase the wealth gap
the fact bezos has enough money to end the hunger, poverty &homelessness for hundreds of millions of poor unfortunate souls and still remain a multi-billionaire…
…but looks instead for the most expensive ventures to spend it on himself, speaks volumes of the same darkness in his soul, which has allowed him to ruthlessly trample on the backs of millions of people, just to earn more money than he can spend….
i pity him
”lets roll, lets roll, never give them control; they’ve got the money, but we’ve got our souls”
Default, concomitant to your cogent analysis, if one lives in the rarefied world of multi-billionaires, is it possible to believe this planet is environmentally doomed and extra-terrestrial colonization is the only salvation? If so, who would be the intended benefactors? The human race through the preservation of Elite’s DNA?

That darkness of which you speak afflicts the West and it is extolled as a virtue of sorts. OH the darkness shrouding us .
Mondragon is the Spain coop. BUT – coops are NOT the best answer, they are a SMALL PORTION of the answer. People do NOT always want to commit to buying in and staying in one place, for example. The BEST ANSWER is correct, ETHICAL use of our federal money, which our Constitution states is to be spent to provide FOR THE GOOD OF ALL. Instead, the greedy have been taking OUR MONEY, and they have wanted us to stay desperate and poor so they can hire us cheaply AND so they can feel superior to the masses. GET STEPHANIE KELTON ON so you can understand better – Dr Wolf is great, but coops are tricky. A good federal Job Guarantee (Prof Kelton can also tell you about that) is much more straightforward and helps ALL, not just some that can buy into a job.
Also Emma Goldman we do not hear about – a great activist who was FURIOUS about the Haymarket convictions and hangings. The establishment hated her outspokenness. She was said to have been part of an assassination plot. Also urged people NOT to register for the draft, and was jailed for this in 1917. Ultimately, the establishment deported her back to Russia. Steve Earl gave Emma Goldman a shout out in this song he wrote, as well as Woodie Guthrie, Malcolm X, MLK, Joe Hill ). Joan Baez has also covered this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qbi2rMQveHo
thanks for the link Debtee – a great song, beautiful music with a message.
i found a 9 minute live version with an additional political spoken word section preceding the song; including the wonderful line “feel free to insert your own heroes wherever you see fit”
… makes me wonder what Woody Guthrie would have sung today?
for anyone unfamiliar, Woody is best known for his ”Dustbowl [era] Ballads” and of course being the mentor of Bob Dylan, who was reportedly at his bedside when he passed.
Donovan (often hailed the Scottish Bob Dylan) also has a song paying tribute with the opening line “this one’s for Woody”. This lineage can be followed back from modern day (as Donovan & Dylan continue to tour relentlessly into their twilight years) to, among others, Lead Belly; a black folk singer from the early 20th century, widely cited as a major influence on Woody. Lead Belly songs like Midnight Special still sound great today, & have been recently treated to digital remastering.
…. but i digress, Steve Earl live link attempted below…
(hopefully the link should work at least for spotify users, where i located it)

Debtee, perhaps you can help clarify something. Steve Oh said around 18:35 that Eisenhower designating May 1st as Law and Order Day in 1958 demonstrated how powerful the May Day strikes had been 70 years before. I am thinking Ike’s 1958 declaration had more to do with communism than unionism, since the hated communists celebrated May Day to much publicity and our media had 70 years to bury May Day’s origins. What do you think?
One of the best shows so far. Can’t wait for the economist to come on. More people need to understand how a fiat currency works.
Yes, I hope he gets some of the professors ASAP!! We all need to understand that WE CAN HAVE NICE THINGS. We will have to DEMAND that the greedy spend FOR THE GOOD OF ALL (also known as ‘for the public purpose) and scare them by telling them WE KNOW THEY HAVE LIED and we know that they have approved spending to ENRICH THEMSELVES. When they are panicking more, they will do what we want. And I hope most of them are scared enough to RUN AND HIDE, because as more people find out the truth, the rage will be MASSIVE. When people find out that the federal govt can issue ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY for anything that is physically possible – well, they will realize that it was simply a FAILURE OF ETHICS and PLANNING by the corrupt, greedy sociopaths that have been running things that has resulted in the US being a horrible place to live, with no security or decent support. And if they feel the grief and then the ANGER that I felt when this hit me, there could be huge backlash.
Love that Michelle ended with “Flint still doesn’t have clean water.”
Hey…since there were a bunch of “journalists” there, maybe one of them will pick up that tragedy!
Flint citizens are NOT the only people getting poisoned by their water AND are expected to PAY for it. Around the country, this is more common than not. It’s been 4 years and they STILL can’t drink their water!
Last month, Gov.Snyder stopped the free bottle water to Flint residents.
When the Flint mayor complained, Snyder said, “Get over it.”
Michelle Wolf just peeled back the shitty, filthy band-aid covering our pus-oozing country a teenie-tiny bit.
BRAVO!
chetzmom, NPR mentioned Michelle Wolf last year. The story related how she became a writer for The Daily Show. When the hubbub started, I watched her WHCA roast on YouTube. After TYT’s coverage, I realized how savvy Wolf is. Like MSM, she, too, is going to profit off of the monster MSM created. I had never seen her act before, but became an instant fan. Her last remark did not hurt, either. Many people probably feel the same as I do. If so, she will make big bucks off of Trump and he won’t see a dime. How is that for karma: a man, who is desperate to be rich, sees everyone around him making millions off of him, yet he doesn’t get a commission.
Bravo, Michelle Wolf.
Flint still doesn’t have clean water.
The reason MSM/politicians are crying so hard about Michelle Wolf’s jokes is they hit close to home.
They are TRUE. MSM SUCKS, they are NOT journalists or reporters or truth-tellers.
They are propagandists for the Govt, Military & Corporations.
Side note ~ Jimmy, it has to be “Aunt Coulter” cuz it sounds like Ann Coulter, so there’s no confusion for the idiots in the audience.
I think he says, “Nance, ya don’t hafta laugh at that.”
May I take a moment to share my embarrassment and shame?
The first time I heard that May 1 was International Workers day, was last year, when I was on holiday in China. I had joined a group on the Great Wall and they were all congratulating American ME (like it was the 4th of July). It was shameful that the nice muslim man next to me had to explain(to me) why May 1st was such a big deal.
Once again, A.P. has filled in the gaps of (the Grand Canyon of LIES) that pollute our public discord.
PS: Michele Wolfe (where ever you are) YOU ROCK!!!
Many of us are embarrassed and ashamed about what we DID NOT KNOW because of the propaganda for so many DECADES here. I am almost a senior, and finding out a LOT in the past few years. Fighting mad EVERY DAY!!
+1 Marazona
Marazona, thanks for sharing that experience. I grew up in a state in India where the communist party held the state government for many years. One day (I was 12 or so) when I was walking back home with my mom, there was a May day rally on the roadside by the ruling party, and there were posters critical of the national government being too close to America and America’s interests, and hence anti-workers’ interests.
My mom laughed (she had studied and worked in America for almost a decade), and she explained to me the history of May day, and how union activities in America had led to labor laws, compensations and work safety measures that are much superior to other nations with more supposedly left wing governments.
When we are open enough to recognize a good idea from a supposed antagonist and use that good idea for ourselves, we prosper. Skepticism and vilification of workers’ rights movements was there through the history of US, but at some point, a group of leaders understood the value of addressing these demands. That was a step in the right direction. Since the 80s, both parties have worked to undo that. They have used some notion of supposed exclusivity to shut their eyes and ears to the practices of compensation equality and fairness in countries whose constitutions the US helped set up. That is the mark of a failing culture and a failing country, and as a people, we need to reject this notion of exclusivity, look around the world and keep learning from whoever is doing the right thing.
HOLY SHIT! All the other videos of Michelle’s speech I listened to the laugher HAD to have been edited. The laughs were not nearly as loud as this one!
each time Jimmy presents his wife, I expect her to answer back “I’m miserable… I married Jimmy” :) She looks so adorable.
Stef is so adorable, love you guys, can’t wait to see you all in Chicago
This show makes my membership worth paying. Thank you, and hey TYT. Continue to stretch. I know it’s hard, but Dore is more resonant on this than many of us may realize, given the rest of media is working double overtime to talk about anything, but the ugly impact of so many years of Democratic Party failure to represent ordinary people economically.
Social issues just aren’t enough.
I’ve not given the party a dime. Berners in my State are working to get the chair vote, pushing real progressives, and my advocacy, activism time and money are all about these ideas, and the people who are about them:

r/WeAreNotAsking
You blew my mind with the May Day story! Also, the Wolf is now my spirit animal….loved her brass! Oh, and thanks a ton for the Eye in the Sky earworm. =\
This show is the only reason I still have my membership, hurry back! :)
Honestly I never liked Ms. Wolf on Redacted Tonight but she nailed that white house dinner! Good for her
love Redacted Tonight – like John Oliver with a set of balls – but as a more recent viewer i did not know Michelle was on it previously.
just supports her statement they should have done their research; as the current presenters of Redacted Tonight have been spuriously registered as foreign agents – for truth telling satire on RT. how many W.H. correspondents are friends of RT; incidentally a channel where Jimmy pops up frequently alongside Lee Camp and other true progressives, shunned by establishment media for being too brutally honest…sound familiar ?….
Good catch on that, that “laugh” is etched in my memory but I didn’t remember the name..
I just read in the Guardian that Montreal hospital in Canada in the 1950-1960’s they subjected psychiatric patients to electroshocks, drug induced sleep and huge doses of LSD. It was funded by CIA.
jz2000, the experiments to which you have just become aware were chronicled in the opening chapter of Naomi Klein’s book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism (2007). The book is about how disasters are used as cover for passing economic changes that favor corporations over people, when the changes would not have been tolerated without the devastating distraction. The privatization of New Orleans’ schools after Katrina is an example.
If you have an interest in reading further, here is a link to a Time interview with Klein: http://www.naomiklein.org/shock-doctrine/reviews/time-magazine-disaster-capitalism
Stef – your absolutely right, I thought same thing when I first heard the joke. It wasn’t until I listened a couple of times before I realized it was facts not fat. That line where Michelle Wolf speaks truth to power about the media building Trump up so they can tear him down all in the name of ratings and making $ is what really bothers them. Emma Vigeland did a great report on the hypocrisy https://youtu.be/7KJk-XlL5SE
BTW Maggie Habberman is the same reporter who was on that panel with Keith Ellison when he predicted Trump would win the presidency, she laughed in his face https://youtu.be/FHkPadFK34o
Re: SHS outrage. Sounds like “who smelt it dealt it” to me. If those exact words were spoken of Ivanka Trump or Megan Kelly would anyone interpret them as a criticism of appearance? Purely projection.
Thanks Zoe!
