  1. Re: the assertion at the 7:37ish mark that there is no evidence Assad has gassed his own people, yes, there is evidence:
    https://www.bellingcat.com/news/mena/2018/05/30/watch-upcoming-opcw-ffm-report-douma-chemical-attack/
I recognize that ^this article is from months after the recording of this episode, and that Cenk was, on April 12, 2018, referring to the April 7, 2018 chemical attacks in Douma, and at that time it was too early to have certainty about that recent attack. That said, April 12 was not the only instance of the use of chemical weapons in Syria. There is evidence of Assad’s regime using chemical weapons against Syrians (namely Sarin gas , the only one that seems to really matter to the US). These instances (and past reports on them) are discussed in the article above from Bellingcat (second paragraph), as it previews what an upcoming report from the OPCW about the April 7 Douma attack.

I present this evidence not to use it as a jumping off point to ratchet up US military intervention in Syria (I too am against such intervention, because who the hell knows how bad that would turn out with Trump and Bolton at the helm). I just present this evidence to counter the claim that there is no evidence of Assad gassing ‘his people’. There is!
Here is a June 13 article with more to the story, re: “the use of Sarin and Chlorine in Al-Lataminah on March 24th 2017 and March 25th 2017”:

  2. I don’t follow Jimmy’s shows, so I can’t comment on those, however, if Kyle agrees that there is something to the possibility that Russia has had, to effect, influence on Trump’s “success,” then he is absolutely terrible at stating it on his show. All I saw for weeks (and seems to still do it, when I check in to see if he’s bearable again) were his rants about HRC, and how stupid everyone is for believing there might be anything, at all, to consider about Russia, and recent elections, and Trump’s dealings with them. His rants were so egregious that he would bring it up in unrelated stories. I liked his show because it covered different topics than TYT. I had to stop watching, and funding. it when the show became an endless rant about HRC, when she wasn’t relevant anymore, and how much he hates discussing Russia….while bringing it up in unrelated topics. To me, if you think “there is no there, there” then stop talking about it. It’s obviously a non-story, to you, so stop covering it. I could have continued to enjoy his coverage of the latest idiocy wrought by religious zealots, and ignored our differing opinions on the dangers of Russian involvement with the POTUS, and our elections. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On fighting ignorance & Trump supporters: I am glad you brought this up. It is an on-going battle on all sides. I can never decide whether I should be the junk-yard-dog, or the questioner.

  3. That’s it, I’ve completely lost my patience.

It’s Friday, 4pm. WHERE THE FUCK IS THIS WEEK’S OLD SCHOOL?? Wtf is so god damn hard about uploading a video on time?

Jesus Christ, Cenk, fix this problem already. It happens week after week, and nothing is ever done about it.

  4. Zoe, Waldo, whoever it is uploading these, get your head in the game and post this week’s Old School episode already. It’s getting really annoying now.

  5. Ahh, I love these kinds of Old Schools… I know you guys talk about politics and Trump during the main shows, but I really enjoy when Cenk goes deeper on Old School. This is one of my favorite shows on TYT.

  6. You definitely should empathize with republican voters. Many will lose faith when their premiums go up another 25% next year. The republican answer, just opt out, is not an answer for sane rational people. Many have lost faith with the missile strikes. It is absolutely critical we get justice Democrats to win their votes with a message of peace and Medicare for all!!

    1. They will not lose faith. They are bathed in hatred for progressives, liberals, and godless heathens. They are told that their problems are caused by “the others”. They believe it all. They’ve been marginalized for the past 30 years yet still cling to their god and their guns and their Republicans and their so-called family values. This is why we must push harder to get people out to vote, to restore voting rights to felons, and to roll back the scourge of ruthless gerrymandering. Demographics are on our side. There are already more of us than them, and that only looks better going forward.

  7. I love that TYT has more order to the time of the shows, but I miss the 3 hour Old Schools. It feels like there isn’t enough time for them to go on all the side rants they used to do. Still love the show though.

  8. Really a good show… To be really great it needs Ben on board… BTW, Rachel Maddow took a personal moment at the start of her show, to mention how wrong it would be if Trump did Syria just to divert attention away from domestic corruption…

    1. I don’t think the Israeli government would go that far but its not impossible.

If I had to guess I think it was one of the jihadist groups among the various rebel factions. They know their only path to power is getting Assad out and that isn’t happening without American involvement. And they are viscous enough to do it.

  9. 2020 candidates who are not Bernie. Russel Honore. Carmen Yulín Cruz. Like Nina Turner but I don’t see her as viable.

  10. Old School Rule #?: Grind against the gamblers and gamble against the grinders. That applies to more than poker.

  11. “Locally grown cucumber says,” in that serious tone of someone who reads tweets from people with ridiculous handles all day, made me laugh out loud so hard. I’m still laughing.

If it can somehow be managed that the Democratic presidential primary includes both Nina Turner and Tulsi Gabbard, I swear by all that is good that I will arrange a roadtrip around the U.S. just to hear all their debates. That’d be so amazing.

  12. Mark’s poker philosophy was a brilliant analogy of how to live a life, but then again, I’ve never played poker;-]
