January 29th 1979, Cleveland Elementary School. 2 adults dead and 9 injured, this was carried out by 16 year old Brenda Spencer who shot these people from her home across the street, what good would an armed teacher of been? You don’t have to go into a school to kill them you can do it from out side. Just saying.
    Glad to see the kids taking a stand albeit their voice appears to be falling on deaf ears.

  2. Establishment Democrats, Corporate Democrats, Conservative Democrats have lost THOUSANDS of seats across this country. That should be the start of every conversation on policy discussions with them. It’s time to have a progressive POPULIST stand and move forward from there.

Hyperbole aside (which this IS), accusing political opposition of terrorism based on their political position on a divisive issue (which this IS) is VERY undemocratic.   6. On the Dems not campaigning on gun control on a national level, that is actually a good strategy. 300 house seats are gerrymandered in a way that campaigning for gun control will be suicidal even in a Blue district.

    Cenk keeps citing polls but ignores the fact that gun control is about the most unstable policy there is in polling. Support for strict gun laws swings by 20 points each time there is a shooting and virtually all studies show that the only parties that go to polls exclusively because of guns are people wanting less gun control and they are typically 25% of voters:

  7. We had a guy drive his car into a hospital yesterday in Middletown CT. Car had jugs of gasoline inside. After crashing through the door, he lit himself on fire , cried out “Death to the new World Order” and “Jesus Save Me”. Turns out he was an Anti Trumper, protesting the 1% and new world order. He severely burned himself, injured no one else. Loser.

    Would it have been more effective to buy an AR-15 and blow people away instead? Heck yeah. So why didn’t he? Past criminal history and strict CT gun laws when it comes to assault rifles.

  13. Who would want to become a teacher if Trump’s plan comes to fruition? Let’s see…teachers carry a concealed weapon, you tell the students which teachers carry the guns…so, now each teacher would have a HUGE target on their back. There’s no way I’d sign up to be a teacher. Fuck that! I was in the military. No amount of training can stop your adrenaline from spiking so hard during an incident — I’ve heard of many trained soldiers completely forget their training when an incident arises through no fault of their own.

  14. It also isn’t about confiscation. When was the last time you saw an actual automatic gun in the hands of a civilian? At a gun range. Maybe. Those things are hard to find and stupid expensive. It took a while to get them out of the hands of average people, but we passed laws and we basically don’t have them any more. Guns need constant care to work properly. If you pass laws that certain guns should not be available any more, stopping production, over time they will become so expensive people won’t buy them. They will break and not be replaced. Criminals won’t have them because they would be prohibitively expensive. You ban the manufacture of something not the owning of something. But that is what the NRA and the gun manufacturers are afraid of the most.

    Hint: it isn’t so we can over throw a tyrannical government.
    It is closer to the home self defense line, but the reality is slavery.
    There was no standing military before the revolution and none written into the constitution. There was not militarized police force, lile we have now. The colony officials needed to be able to force white males into militas to put down slave rebellions, the thing that the south was truly terrified of. The key words in the second amendment that demonstrate this? Well regulated militia and to the security of a free state (not country as it was originally drafted). That screams “I am scared of a slave rebellion. Don’t take my guns or they will get their freedom”.

  20. So what is not mentioned in this ‘more armed people at the school’ theory is that the attacker has the initiative and the advantage. They choose where and when to strike, they choose when to reveal themselves, while defenders have to remain vigilant against all possibilities. One ‘bad guy’ with a gun is not cancelled out by a ‘good guy’ with a gun.

Cenk, isn’t telling you since it goes against the message he trying to push out, Yes there was an armed guard at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School , and in uniform He was a deputy sheriff. what he did was cowardly. he went to building 12 never went in took a position outside while students were being shot never went in. This guard has suddenly retired from the force This was not a good guy with a gun he was a coward. But, Cenk, is using him to justify that an armed guard would have done nothing. How brave it is of Cenk to do this Don’t you think? Man Cenk is as deplorable as Sean Hannity in this case.

You know there were armed guards at Columbine, don’t you?… Do you really want a “Shoot-Out” in a school between a psycho and an armed Algebra teacher… Do you expect either shooter to not hit a (or several) bystanders? — Especially when one shooter is there is hit bystanders… Here in the local high schools and for several years there has been campus security – not armed, I know… And many High Schools have an armed police resource officer on campus — See Columbine above… Putting more guns in schools makes no sense unless you wish to increase the profits of the Gun Industry and its major lobbying group – the NRA…

    2. What can we do to help you feel safe?
    3. Do you…see someth…something…effective?
    4. Resources? Ideas?

    As you can see from the first line I wrote, I do not think the President cares about what the students say that go against a talking point. As always, there are some people who are defending him for the note, stating that it can be difficult to find the right words to say to victims of a tragedy, which I believe is true. Unfortunately, that reasoning for this particular note is weak in my opinion. I say this because these notes are no-brainers (hope that I spelled that right). Do you really need a note to tell you to listen for ideas, for them to tell you what their experience was like, or to tell them that you listened? For me, I would need notes on what to say after this. I do not need to be reminded of this, but apparently, one of the requirements to see a no-brainer is to actually have one.

    Lastly, I am sick and tired being told that I have to surround my environment with more guns to protect myself from them. This school shooting happened and Republicans say to arm teachers, as if it is a reasonable response. Some staunch gun-lovers & advocates, including some Republicans, say that shooters choose gun-free zones to commit these crimes. These people basically say “Deal with it, the guns are not going anywhere.” Well, I have a question for them, if we have to live with being surrounded with more guns, why can’t they?

    They make the White House, U.S Senate, & U.S. House of Representative gun-free zones, but they also make laws that can take that same thing away from us. I feel that if they make a law at the federal or state level that says that teachers can bring guns into schools, or tries to to end gun-free zones, which Trump promised, then they need to allow law-abiding citizens to bring their guns to into these areas, including at the state level if the state did something like this. It is only fair. Besides, if a bad person with a gun comes on the premises, all these law makers should feel comforted knowing that there will be many good people with a gun on the property as well to shoot up the place, looking for the bad guy.

They pull together the disparate points of the radical right and have brought it together, along with the Evangelicals, to create a whole of insane, hateful, anti-social people who are at heart afraid of the different, the non-caucasian and socialist. Our country has been polarized by a cohesive group of people terrified of losing their viability and voice. This is not something you can patch over or educate away from as we once believed. The names we should list are the John Birch Society, the KKK, The White Supremicists, the radical evangelical groups like The Family, and any others who work out of spite, fear and hatred to ‘reclaim’ a time and a history they never had.
