The pronunciation of “Pyeongchang” was such an incredible waste of time and a non-story. Names of countries and cities are anglicized all the time. English speaking people say:
1. Germany not Deutschland
2. Munich not Munchen
3. Paris being pronounced Pa-ris and not Pa-ree
4. Italy not Italia
5. Spain not España
6. Cairo not Al-Qahirah
7. Egypt not Masr
8. Hungary not Magyar
Was not a fan of any of the stories in the second hour, they did not take the time to put any real stories together and should have just cancelled it or let Cenk run for 2 hours.
I don’t buy that they are doing the happy meal thing to make it fewer calories for kids. They know a lot of adults are starting to get happy meals as a lower calorie option and I believe they are doing this to make adults spend more on the full sized meal. But I have a pretty negative world view so maybe I am being unfair

Agree with Kim on pronounciations. Brett is right about anglicization of Paris, but where there is no established anglicization, the local pronouncizations should govern. We finally changed Peking to Beijing to make a better approximation to Chinese pronounciations. Perhaps there could be improvements in how foreign words are rendered into Latin alphabet.
Of course there is still the problem that non-English languages that use the Latin alphabet assign different pronounciations to the various letters, as Cenk and the Kurds can attest. This includes the pronounciations of the letters X and J in Spanish and Y in German that differ from the English usage. Transliterations from languages that don’t use the Latin alphabet make this worse because more than one transliteration system is in use for many of these languages, resulting in the same name being spelled differently in different publications. And of course there are the differences in spellings and pronounciations of American English vs. British English and the archaic spellings of words whose pronounciations have changed since the spelling was fossilized in the past.

I have to agree with this sentiments here! I saw them together on a Nerd Alert either last week or the week before and they are actually a good team with complimentary abilities. Kim’s smart, kind, and has a kind of natural shyness that comes across on her own while Brett is slightly eclipsed by Kim’s nerd-powers but has a funny nature that brings out a freedom in Kim to understand her own ability more while also being very professional despite his madcap nature. I hope they both see it too and that we see more of their complimentary abilities. Brett is great, and Kim is awesome, especially when she feels a bit less pressured by not being hour-leader because it brings out her own humor and radiance. Thank you both for staying late at the office Kim & Brett whilst the rest of the gang was at the party set-up!

I watch a lot of dog rescue videos and they usually use cheeseburgers to entice the dog out of its hiding place. This removing cheeseburgers from Happy Meals is a big change. I always wondered what the dog did with the toy but what are the dogs going to do when McD replaces toys with books. I guess we’ll have educated Pit Bulls.
