  1. Can’t express how wonderful it is to have someone of your integrity an d insight reporting on some of today’s issues. I have adjusted my Monday schedule in order to add another half hour of sanity. to my day.

  2. Dear Mr Rather

    I too, like Hornby Peacock, am writing to you from British Columbia in Canada. What is happening in the USA has never been more important for us to understand and discuss, as we live next to such a large group of people who broke with the political traditions we still embrace.

    I have watched CBS news for much of my life – in the earliest 70’s I watched the Canadian news at 6 pm and then switched to CBS at 6:30 ! As Watergate unfolded in 72 and even before with CREEP and Ron Ziegler., the White House Press Security of the time. My 15 year old chin would hit the ground to hear how the Nixon White House was determined to have power at any cost – I.e. bugging the Democrats. Nixon didn’t need to do it …. he won by a bloody landslide after all the shameful politicking he had done to distort George McGovern and what he was saying. And the people who actually committed the burglary and many other shameful things were never punished as they should have been if they did do what they proclaimed on their death beds.

    Have you come to a view yourself about the events of November 1962 ? There’s no reason why you should but I’m interested in how you view the weight of historical evidence. I think there was a clear conspiracy evident.

    I would also much appreciate it if you would take some time to give us some perspective on how we got back here again so quickly to the problems of over-mighty Presidents after the events of 72. I hope you will remind us about what happened in those times, and if you think we are worse off with a President whose potential to harm us is, to some degree at least, greater than the threat posed in 1972.

    Thank you for all the years of quality news gathering. It must infuriate you and all the dedicated news gatherers in the United States to have your work trivialised as “Fake News” !

  3. 86? surely, you’re the most fortunate man in the world, Dan Rather. to sweep away the cobwebbed ceiling of ageism, to dust off the detritus of retirement, and to once again take center stage in the fight to help rescue America from the hands of grasping elites who do not wish us well — either We the People or the once-great country sure to regain her footing, with your able assistance and steady tones. i could not be more thrilled to have 30 minutes of your valuable time each Monday! (Cenk, was this your idea? major kudos to whoever — you or another or a group. brilliant!)

    and what a stellar opportunity for you to roll up your sleeves and get back in the driver’s seat, bestowing your careful and sure-sighted vision of what the Framers worked so damn hard to bequeath to us. between your wisdom, Cenk’s enthusiasm, and the wealth of sagacity gathered at the TYT studios, i see nothing but the promise of the Virtue of the Republic, like a Liberty Bell re-engineered to repair the rent in her side, to finally let Freedom ring! forgive me; i know i’m waxing ridiculously rhapsodic — i am truly THAT excited!

    rather than continue to make a further fool of myself, i want to use the words of a great poet to shape my utter joy. these lines kept running through my head during your newscast:

    Ode on a Grecian Urn

    by John Keats (May 1819)

    I

    Thou still unravished bride of quietness,
    Thou foster-child of silence and slow time,
    Sylvan historian, who canst thus express
    A flowery tale more sweetly than our rhyme:
    What leaf-fringed legend haunts about thy shape
    Of deities or mortals, or of both,
    In Tempe or the dales of Arcady?
    What men or gods are these? What maidens loth?
    What mad pursuit? What struggle to escape?
    What pipes and timbrels? What wild ecstasy?

    II

    Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard
    Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on;
    Not to the sensual ear, but, more endeared,
    Pipe to the spirit ditties of no tone:
    Fair youth, beneath the trees, thou canst not leave
    Thy song, nor ever can those trees be bare;
    Bold lover, never, never canst thou kiss,
    Though winning near the goal — yet, do not grieve;
    She cannot fade, though thou hast not thy bliss,
    For ever wilt thou love, and she be fair!

    III

    Ah, happy, happy boughs! that cannot shed
    Your leaves, nor ever bid the Spring adieu;
    And, happy melodist, unwearièd,
    For ever piping songs for ever new;
    More happy love! more happy, happy love!
    For ever warm and still to be enjoyed,
    For ever panting, and for ever young;
    All breathing human passion far above,
    That leaves a heart high-sorrowful and cloyed,
    A burning forehead, and a parching tongue.

    IV

    Who are these coming to the sacrifice?
    To what green altar, O mysterious priest,
    Lead’st thou that heifer lowing at the skies,
    And all her silken flanks with garlands drest?
    What little town by river or sea shore,
    Or mountain-built with peaceful citadel,
    Is emptied of this folk, this pious morn?
    And, little town, thy streets for evermore
    Will silent be; and not a soul to tell
    Why thou art desolate, can e’er return.

    V

    O Attic shape! Fair attitude! with brede
    Of marble men and maidens overwrought,
    With forest branches and the trodden weed;
    Thou, silent form, dost tease us out of thought
    As doth eternity: Cold Pastoral!
    When old age shall this generation waste,
    Thou shalt remain, in midst of other woe
    Than ours, a friend to man, to whom thou say’st,
    “Beauty is truth, truth beauty,” — that is all
    Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

    What mad pursuit, indeed — enjoy the ride!

  4. Dan Rather, you’re amazing. Thanks your for your report on DACA. I’d love to hear you on Net-Neutrality and Public Networks. Here’s a link to my petition. I’ve been fighting for a free and open internet, via a publicly owned network, in my own town. https://www.change.org/p/mayorsoffice-cob-org-bellingham-public-fiber-optic-network
    I have met a lot of resistance from very corrupt corporate Democrats, Republicans, and corporations alike. To met, anti-net neutrality is nothing short of fascism and an attack on our 1st Amendment rights. Again, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

  5. I’m in love with Dan Rather ! Despite being from and living in the UK, even I can see that Dan is exactly the right man for the job at TYT News. His extensive experience over many decades provides much needed perspective on the changes and challenges that are facing the US today. Only someone with Dan’s extensive journalistic experience is able to look back over the history of US politics and point out similar trends and policies and accurately reflect on what these policies achieved and didn’t achieve and how the people can best respond to what’s currently happening in perhaps a better way than was done in previous decades and administrations. Let’s face it, Dan Rathers has seen it all and reported on many of the major political decisions, good and bad, that have occurred over the past 70 years. No one else can give you this kind of expert journalistic reporting and judgement that comes with his age and experience. He’s an awesome addition to the TYT team ! Welcome Dan, we’re all so happy you’re here at a time when we (the world) really need your help and perspective.

    1. Hah, I wasn’t sure if he was joking. Sounded like he said Cenk at the end. Maybe there’s a “Nick” behind the scenes in TYT?

  6. Thank you Mr. Rather for your constant well-reasoned analysis and advice.

    You are correct. We are in a battle for the soul of our country. We will fight.

    Love your segments and I look forward to them every week even though I can’t catch them live as I commute home from work. I will continue to seek them out and thank you again for being a steady voice of reason!

  7. I so much appreciate your perspective and introspection. You have shown a spotlight on areas, like Puerto Rico and are asking questions such as, where are our troops fighting and why is the Pentagon humoring Trump with plans for a military parade while so many of our young men are in harms way and in areas we are kept in the dark about?
    We will never get to be thus challenged in our thinking, by corporate media and fake media retweets from Russian bots.
    Thank you for taking such an active part in bringing thoughtful comments to all of us who care so much about each other, about social justice and about our democracy. We are blessed to have your wisdom.

  8. Mr. Rather
    I grew up watching you and I am so happy are n TYT!
    You bring a sense of dignity and honesty in your reporting that we desperately need in these troubling times.
    I hope you know you have respect and love from so many of us here in Canada.
    Congratulations on a great show!

    Love from BC Canada!!!

  9. I really love this show! Thank you Dan for joining TYT, and thank you TYT for this wonderful addition. And all for just ten bucks!

  10. Mr. Rathers, the respect you engender from viewers and collegues places you in a rather (no pun intended) special position of influence on the old media outlets. Challenge them to return to the roots of true journalism.
    It’s great to have you back!
    Godspeed!

  11. That was the best episode of The News w/ Dan Rather yet! Keep em coming, loving every minute of Mr. Rather’s professionalism and calm, silky smooth demeanor and voice.

    That handoff was epic, but at first I thought Dan called Cenk “Nick Wugarra”, lol. I don’t know if I misheard, there was a joke, or what, but Dan definitely did say “Cenk” correctly at the end, so I have no idea, lol.

  12. Do you Mr. Rather you were but a decade older than I am I’m not sure if I’m one of the older or even the oldest TYT member. Your words are sound and always have been.

    Time has a way of allowing us elders to record history into time. What I always enjoyed about your reporting was it even handedness and heartfelt truth.

    It is going to take this entire countries multi generations to gather together and stand and face this conglomerate that has taken over our country and I say we do it with the constitution tight fisted in our hands, close to our hearts and with the enthusiasm of our forefathers, to say no more!

    We the people of the United States we formed a more imperfect union In the past 50 years allowing multibillionaires to influence policy’s but now were here to better this country and break the bondage of multi corporations,Special interest lobbyists corruption, called citizens United!

    We must all stand together and we must fight For our liberties for constitution and for our democracy, we can no longer stay asleep and stay at home.

    You only get in this life what you put into it and by God we need to put our heart sweat and togetherness into this fight.

    I thank you for coming out of retirement to help this and many generations understand what we are facing And how we may 1 foot in front of the other get to where we need to be a true democracy!

    Thank you dear sir for your continued commitment to our democracy and this wonderful country we call home.

    1. You are so right on every foot, but most importantly what is going to save this nation isn’t more divisiveness but young and old, conservative and progressive, members of all religions, taking it back from the hands of the powerful who lie to us and try to destroy it.

  13. Dan Rather reminds me so much of my grandfather. It gives me hope hearing his perspective. This is what I wish more journalism would go back to. Facts and analysis, editorialism but well thought out and suppported. I love TYT but I also think there is a lot they could learn from this kind of reporting. No ego, no cult of personality, no throw away comments that need to be dealt with later. TYT has the heart and the research and Dan Rather has the delivery and restraint. There’s nothing but good that can come from this partnership.

  14. Thank you for your commentary Mr. Rather, it’s a voice of reason that we all need to hear delivered so eloquently and thoughtful.

  15. What an awesome handoff! If only my mom could’ve seen the legendary Dan Rather hand off to a brown man born in Turkey who’s founder & CEO of the studio with billions of views.

    Then again, Trump becoming POTUS would’ve killed her long before this. Would’ve probably killed my dad too. It would’ve been like them seeing Bull Connor times ten getting in the White House, they would’ve lost all hope. I’m glad they didn’t live long enough for that 2016 election to be the reason for their demise.

  16. There’s some hate out there for The Young Turks, I’d say TYT is going from strength to strength, if you’re part of the ‘Nescafe generation’ that wants results immediately and can’t stand to have your views challenged, bear in mind that change takes time, if you want proof of that, look no further than at human evolution.
    That Dan Rather is on the TYT network says a lot at just how fine a network they are building.

  17. Dan is the man. Would he be willing to stick around for (at least part of) hour one some time? Would be great to have his input in some of those discussions.

  18. For years now almost every day I have TYT to look forward to, so not to take anything away from that, but it pales in comparison to how much I now look forward to The News with Dan Rather each week. Always insightful, always humble spoken and always heartfelt. Nothing but love and respect and can’t wait for next weeks show! :)

  19. Dan Rather is a national treasure. It is so good to see him doing what does best. He is the last living and working connection to the era of broadcast news in which its contributors understood and carried the responsibility that that comes with it.
