Those emotional support animals are BS.
This comment is BS. Since I am guessing you don’t have a medical degree and many people with one say they aren’t BS I was going to skate by your comment. However pretending they are BS it doesn’t change the point. So your comment is double BS?
i mean i understand that Ana is not smart enough to do real research,
its easier to surf reddit and report whatever the 16 year olds on that sire posted that day.
but it really is annoying if you sell that shit as news.
i understand that this is an opnion show, but maybe try to have some sophisticated opinion on serious topics?
not just bandwagon on whatever opinion was suggested in whatever shit article that supported the government line.
your coverage since the election is trash, your obvious lack of information in all areas is blatant. anyone who understands topics like technology or foreign policy is rolling on the floor laughing after watching your show.
at least you found the right partners that welcomes your corverage, the biggest dnc donor/bundler in california.
good night and good luck
Between your grammar, spelling errors, and odd sentence spacing how do you expect anyone to take you serious, troll? I find it pretty funny that you are so triggered you felt you needed to become a member so you could whine publicly instead of just mumbling to yourself in your mother’s basement.
Thank you for paying 10 dollars a month in support for independent media trollboy.
I am enjoying your “intellectual” opinions. But keep on paying to support them troll money is as good as any other money
I’m done. Between the rhetoric from Ana here and the rant Ana and Cenk did the other day, I cannot support this network anymore.
Bye…
do you need any help canceling your account?
when they rant I just skip ahead until they are done
you are right. tyt really took a dive after the primaries.
feel free to cancel your account. I highly suspect you’re a troll anyway.
Bye Felicia
I agree with whoever pointed out that its a relief Cenk did not cover Trump’s parade because yes, Cenk would have gone overboard and vented way beyond appropriate amount of time…
That said, whatever we gained by being spared that tirade was lost during Ana’s tirade on the Russia thing. As soon as Maytha mentioned op-eds that blamed black folks for not turning out in sufficient numbers for Hillary, I knew Ana would not be able to help herself, she would HAVE to go after progressives again. That’s her thing. For two months after the election, she ranted and raved on this topic every. single. day.
I realize that its basically due to immaturity that she cannot let go of her sense of personal grievance, but even so… tiresome.
Ana’s using a straw-man logical fallacy, Cenk does it too. Now, I don’t know anyone that defends Russia in the hyperbolic way that Ana describes, but hey, some of them are out there I’m sure. My gripe is it is unfair to group all people that have a problem with the Russia line all together, and that’s were its a straw-man. HOWEVER: calling Ana “too young” is an ad- hominem attack that undermines your position as well. Neither serves a honest debate. My 2 cents.
…calling Ana “too young” — I didn’t.
No, you said immature, which whether you meant to or not, you brought age into it. You’re indicating that when she “grows up” she’ll figure it out. Immature is associated with children.
Regardless of how you meant it, you’re making an ad-hominem attack that doesn’t help your argument. Challenge the idea, not the person if you want to convince others.
Wrong, wrong and wrong again.
Anyone who belabors a point ad nauseam long past the point of usefulness or effectiveness is behaving immaturely.
Immaturity is not limited to any particular age. There are some who even think Trump is immature. Tsk tsk tsk on them for engaging in ad-hominem attacks!
sure Ana – Facebook and Tumblr memes are destroying American democracy and it’s all because Putin kills journalists … do you listen to yourself? do you understand how stupid that sounds? because it IS stupid … but no – anyone that says anything against it is a Putin puppet … do you know what propaganda does? it makes people think one thing is doing something that is really being done by someone else and gives those that believe it convenient but asinine insults to shit on those that point it out … good job Ana … you’re behaving just as directed ;-) … shit on your members because they’re pointing out the hollow & hysterical nonsense you’re spitting
BTW – while you were smearing BLM as Russian propaganda news was coming out about one of their prominent members being shot and killed by a cop in New Orleans … good job helping someone undermine BLM as a legitimate movement
Russia Tumblr discussion was soooo dishonest.
Demanding proof of government officials and agencies when they claim that a nuclear-armed super power “hacked the election” in a “cyber 9/11 attack” is not defending Russia
Of course Putin is horrible – yes, he has journalists & political opponents jailed & murdered and is terrible to LGBTQ community & artists and all sorts of people – no one on the left defends any of that. Yes, they do things like take in Snowden and prop up agitators like Bernie to poke the eye of and sow mistrust in the US govt (but that’s often a good thing and positive acts are positive acts regardless of motivation)
Of course there need to be investigations on any potential deal that may have been made (Mueller is doing that) But money laundering isn’t treason or collusion or wherever the goalposts are now I can’t keep track
It goes without saying that we need to safeguard our voting machines etc but that has nothing to do with Trump or Russia
I simply disagree on these Tumblr and $100k facebook troll farm stories. Sure, disable bots when they are found – but I don’t want the government or these Silicon Valley elitists censoring or deciding what is news and who is a journalist and feeding us government/corporate-approved propaganda.
And painting anyone who disagrees with you from the left as a red will only come back to bite you
I meant to begin the last sentence with the fact that Russia has a small economy and a relatively small military and building them up as this irresistible force to our immovable object is xenophobic and only plays into the hand of the right (and military industrial complex) by painting anyone to the left of an ever-moving center as a bunch of reds
What’s in it for them, Siberia in 2050, the long game is a new grain belt… found this: ‘Possible economic benefits of a warmer world for Russia are spelled out in recent article by Serge Korepin. The displacement of the Siberian permafrost zone, which could retreat by more than 100 miles (161 km) by 2050, would facilitate the extraction of mineral resources. The reduction of the Arctic ice pack, moreover, would promote mining and drilling in offshore areas. By the same token, the retreat of the pack ice will ease maritime transportation in the far north, allowing the full realization of the long-envisaged Northeastern Passage, shortening shipping routes between the north Atlantic and the north Pacific. Actually, such changes are already occurring. As reported last year by the New York Times’

Exactly they’re even dividing progressives as we see everyday when it’s TYT versus Jimmy Dore’ s defence of Putin’s Russia on Agressive Progressives. The Jimmy Dore wing keeps putting blinders on. How they easily forget as Ana pointed out Pussy Riot being jailed, journalists being killed, and Putin’s war on the LGBT Russian community.
how do you know it’s not the CIA? that’s THEIR MO as well … but of course because the CIA (which lied about torture, drone killings, and spying on the Senate when they were investigating the torture) would NEVER lie to us about Russia (when the military industrial complex profit greatly off of cold war ramp up) … yeah …
No one is “forgetting” anything about Russia’s own sins, no one is defending Russia. We simply point out the incredibly obvious fact that the Dems use Russia to deflect attention away from the Dems’ sins and mistakes.
I am 1000% less concerned about Russia’s interference in our election than I am in the DNC’s rigging of the primaries to deprive Americans of the right to choose our own goddamn candidate.
For crissake, we (the USA) have MURDERED democratically elected heads of state in other countries, and overthrown democratically elected governments, just to provide more profit-making for multinational corporations. Not to mention the role we played in Russia’s elections in the 1980’s, getting rid of Gorbachev (smart and dedicated admirer of Thomas Jefferson who wanted to move his country toward true democracy) and replacing Gorbachev with corporate-tool Yeltsin, who in turn allowed US corporations to move in and start exploiting the hell out of the Russian people. WE did that. WE bragged about it. Check out the cover of TIME magazine that celebrated our coup over the Russian election.
Yeah, and imagine the head of the CIA who was in charge of going after Gorbachev then became president for life. That’s the reality in Russia. Putin was head of the KGB/FSB. It isn’t crazy to think that he might keep acting the way he did when he ran an intelligence agency.
You’re not wrong that the Dems use it as an excuse for all their failings, but Cenk and Anna are two of the first people on this network to point that out and go after the establishment Dems. I happen to agree that the Dems rigged the primaries against Bernie, but again, that doesn’t mean the Russia stuff goes away.
Look at it this way: Putin rules a country that has elections but which is not free, he does that BY RIGGING ELECTIONS. He’s got a system where term after term an entire country goes to the polls and their votes don’t matter, and he’s been doing it for two decades. As bad as what the DNC did is, it doesn’t come close to how Russia operates. Worst case, if the DNC gets too corrupt they will be unelectable and die off as a party, 2016 showed us evidence of that.
The worst case of Russian interference is that it irreparably damages Americans’ faith in their SYSTEM as a whole. The info about FSB hacking into voter rolls isn’t coming from the Dems (although they are playing it up), it’s coming from intelligence agencies that tend to lean conservative. There was that story about the Russian money going to the NRA, and potentially from the NRA to congressional Republicans, which the Dems haven’t really talked about that I’ve seen. There are all the stories about Trump’s decades of dealings with Oligarchs. And then on top of all this are all the troll stories. Again, it’s not the DNC talking about this mostly, although they certainly want to use the “Russia thing” as an excuse. All this stuff adds up, and it’s about perceptions. Especially when you then look at how the President is illegally refusing to enforce sanctions passed by Congress, how Congress refuse to hold him to account on anything, how the checks and balances of the American system are being abused and ignored. It’s hurting american society and it’s hurting american democracy, and what’s more, it’s EXACTLY how Putin has operated in both his own country and others. It’s eerily similar to the example you brought up of Gorbachev and Yeltsin, which is why I just find it tough to understand why you’re so unconcerned.
,,,”why you’re so unconcerned…” — never said I was.
“I am 1000% less concerned about Russia’s interference in our election than I am in the DNC’s rigging of the primaries”
To me that’s a hugely problematic statement, for the reasons I outlined above.
Also look at Russian influence in European politics. This isn’t a problem unique to the US and the stakes are far higher with Russia than they are with the DNC.
“I am 1000% less concerned” is not the same as being unconcerned. It is in relation to the level of my concern to the DNC’s rigging of the primaries.
Putting words into people’s mouths which they did not say, just so you can then criticize them for THE THING THEY DID NOT SAY… is not a good way to make a point.
I chose my words poorly when I said unconcerned, and I’m sorry for that, I misrepresented you there. My point was always that Russia is something to be MORE concerned about, not less, because the stakes are way higher.
Now, read what I said again, I agree with you about the DNC, and I agree that it is a huge issue. But it’s a problem of scale. One effects a single party – and yes, robs people of choice but ultimately IS limited to that party, the other has the potential to affect american democracy as a whole, as a system.
Again, I’m sorry for my poor choice of words, but you must see where I’m coming from here.
That segment sure was.
@kwknight
I didn’t know so many cops were pregnant on the job. No way those fuckers are fit for service. Terrible story. I hope the wife wins her case. It was an execution.
Luckily for Trump & Republicans, there are NO waiters, waitresses, or other service workers who vote Republican! Even if there are a few, it is almost certain that DNC-Dems will FAIL to capitalize on this new Dickensian plan.
It’s another example of trusting the industry to regulate & police itself.
Don’t worry! Resturant owners & managers will be very fair in dispensing the tips that their workers have earned … right into their own pockets.
When I was in Japan it was not polite to give tips, they have their salary, as it should be, and so relax for the costumer, even more than what we have in Sweden. Restaurants around the world should learn from Japan and take note not tips!
Police Shooting: Do we know WHY the license of that driver was suspended? Sometimes that knowledge reveals the threat, such as if this was a career drunk-driver. Or maybe it was just a Sovereign Citizen kook who thinks that he doesn’t need a license. I don’t know. The driver shouldn’t have been shot, but the suspect chose to engage in the criminal activity and take his own life in his hands, so he bares some responsibility, too. In this day and age, right or wrong, we all know cops can take our lives, so be smart and follow the law and obey the instructions given to you by officers; let your lawyer sort out the fairness of it later, but in the meantime keep your life!
I second this question.
Also, HOW did they know he had a suspended license? Was he pulled over for speeding, or erratic driving or something?
Let me be clear, I am NOT condoning what the cops did at all!
This is murder. The cops were NOT in fear for their lives.
The were jubilant that they were in a “Big Game Hunt.”
Also, most deadly jobs besides bartenders are gas station, convenience or party store clerk, and cab drivers.
Cops? Not even in the top ten.
I agree that these cops didn’t seem to be afraid for their lives, too, and it probably should’ve been handled in a different way. I’d just like more information on it in case these cops knew something we don’t. Also, with the exception perhaps of Osama Bin Laden, you should never be happy that you killed someone. I’d also like to know more about the suspect’s family; who does he leave behind? Can they tell us more, perhaps, about the background here? All that said, please people, play it safe and just do what they tell you to. This is Trump’s ” ‘Murica ” now so PLEASE be safe!
Police murder.
Hey this was a low speed chase. All they had to do was send a few cars way ahead and deploy a stinger or shoot out the tyres.
How could the local ‘prosecutor’ say there is no case to answer. Should the prosecutor by his/her professional body for competence.
Is there any organisation in the USA that can investigate such misdeeds and prosecute the individuals involved.
As a commenter from Europe this just plays out as murder. The only reasons that American cops get away with these acts is because there is a corrupt, elite backing them. That human life means so little in America is representative of its lurch towards, anti-science and anti-intellectualism, support for fundamentalists religions and the annihilation of nuance in popular debate, issues are too black and white and I don’t mean that in a racial way.
@kwknight
Neoliberalism is the resurgence of 19th century laissez faire capitalism in late 20th century. What does that have to do with pointing out the dangers of Russian trolls creating fake news? Being against advertising might be a lot of things but it certainly isn’t neoliberalism.
kwknight does not know what Neo-Liberalism is.
Unfortunately, most people don’t. They hear the term and assume it is related to “Liberal” (which in USA means the opposite of what it means in Great Britain, where they still understand the actual root history of the word).
yes, but with one difference. Classical liberal economics was focused on national economies. The “neo” part of neoliberalism is that it’s transnational, or even supra-national. It takes the ideas of “laissez-faire”, which was as much of a nonsense idea in the 19th century as it is today, since markets don’t exist without rules and regulations, but applying them to the globe.
They still require rules and regulations, but a global empire, the united states, enforces those rules and regulations, rather than individual countries enforcing them locally and then competing nation to nation. The US with its 800 military bases and floating armies on aircraft carriers, secret agencies, spy networks, trade deals and universal reserve currency in dollars, maintains the same basic “no rules” rules which across the globe. They threaten where that works, and sometimes they bomb markets into existence if they won’t open on their own. They murder pirates off the coast of some third world nations. They have client states that do some of the dirty work, like Saudi Arabia and Israel. They make sure it all functions cleanly and smoothly in the favor of US corporations. So when they say it’s “laissez-faire”, remember that it requires hundreds of billions of dollars a year in a massive military project to “leave the market alone”.
Mark had it dead on about the russian interference with “fake news” social media posts. “the were trying to take existing divisions in american society….and make them greater.”
I’m going to join in on the complaints here. Maytha doesn’t know what the word “pedophile” means, and it’s disgusting that Ana goes along with it. Is anyone actually educated in this organization enough to make sure that anyone hosting actually understands the words that they use, I’m going to assume not due to the constant misuse of this and other words. Use a dictionary and encyclopedia once in awhile, some hosts are supposedly educated, and still this happens, so think about this next time you guys gloat about the PH. D that someone, like Maytha supposedly has.
Had a few comments on the airline segment:
1. Back in 2008 or 2009 when the price of oil reach $150 a barrel, airlines in the US started charging people money for checked bags saying this was needed to offset the cost of fuel. But when the price of oil collapsed no one reminded them and luggage charges persisted.
2. Maytha gets some of the facts wrong on airlines in the Middle East. It is only domestic flights within the country on the national carrier that is subsidized. The cost of fuel in most of these countries is regulated by the government, so it may be an indirect subsidy in that sense (though on an international route they have to buy fuel abroad as well). Prices still skyrocket during high seasons – you just don’t see it because peak demand periods in those countries is different from peak demand periods in the US. And its still expensive to buy a ticket last minute.
Tyt already did a piece on this tipping thing. Why are you doing again?
Well that last story just convinced me that I’m never gonna stop being on my kid’s case, lol. I’m always gonna be up in his shit to make sure he’s not getting into trouble, even when he’s in his 30s. Also, maybe I’ll live to be over 100 because my folks live a couple blocks from me and are always sticking their nose into my business.
The segment on Russia propagating fake news to sow discord in America was abhorrent, like the rest of TYT’s coverage on Russiagate. How condescending to say “Americans don’t have the agency to vote for Clinton because of advertisements.” It’s elitist and disgusting. TYT is Neoliberal garbage. TYT is NPR for teenagers.
You don’t know what the word “neoliberal” means at all. Please look it up before you use it again, you detract from your argument and add confusion to those that don’t know what this term means and will take it out of context and stay uninformed because this very important term will be used a lot to refer to our current Trumpian government. Neoliberal is very similar to Libertarian and Fascist, except it really only concerns itself with creating the ultimate global free market. FFS, Maytha even partly explained what that term meant later on in this episode and you still used it out of context.
I too was disgusted by Ana’s tone and her the massive amount of hyperbole she used in that piece, saying that if we disagree with Russiagate its because we’re defenders of Putin… bah that’s MSM garbage, and doesn’t belong here. This just after that great conversation between Cenk and Kyle Kulinsky, and I guarantee Ana didn’t even watch it or she would have been more informed on the subject.
Thank you! Someone else who understands the importance of educating people about Neo-Liberalism.
Right now, the current rift within the Democratic Party (as in, voters) is between those of us who understand how damaging Neo Liberal Economics has been to the paycheck-earning classes over the last 40 years…and the other half of the Democratic base that does not even know what the word “Neo Liberal” means.
So far as Democratic electeds in Washington go… Most of them are supporters of Neo-Liberal Economics (after all, it has made them obscenely wealthy) and that’s the problem with the Democratic Party leadership. They don’t want to change the economic system that is destroying the rest of America, because they themselves benefit from it.
Revolution. Now.
Agreed, Ana’s comments and tone were infuriating. Just because I don’t buy into her Russiagate conspiracy doesn’t mean I’m down with the anti-gay bullshit going on over there. Russia is screwed up, obviously. That doesn’t mean we have to buy into all the McCarthyism coming out of the democratic party and, unfortunately, some people at TYT.
Look up “Neo-Liberal” and learn what it means, because clearly, you have no clue.
Ana and co. The story about tipped employees is unbelievably scary and frustrating. I live in Pennsylvania and make the minimum wage for tipped employees which is 2.83. It’s been the same since 1998. Now they want to come after my hard earned tips. Something needs to change. Enough is enough.
Tista57, as a tipped employee, I would like your thoughts. Based on your experience, is there any reason for you not to be paid Pennsylvania’s regular minimum wage, $7.25/Hr? If you were paid this minimum wage in your current job, do you think you would still get tipped? Which scenario do you think would earn you more money: the current system, or being paid regular minimum wage?
As a consumer, I would STILL tip 15-20% depending on the service.
It wouldn’t matter to me if they made minimum wage or that weird “waiter-wage” thingey.
I never did understand why certain workers would get BELOW min. wage, and I’m over 50.
I also HATE the idea of pooling tips or a tip jar.
I want them to know that their good service is the reason they are getting that tip. I know it is definitely not because of the manager or owner.
If you ask me, waiters/waitresses have one of the hardest jobs.
Humans are rude & hard to please when they are Hangry!
Tista57 — This is obscene. In 1973 I worked as a waitress — it was a union job. They enrolled me in the union.
I think it was $25 per year and you had to attend one meeting a year. I was paid $5.50 per hour, time and a half for evening hours, a full meal before your shift. etc. Being the only woman – it was difficult ( but that is story for another day). The waiters made enough to support their families and even send their children to college, (no loans). I made so much in tips, I thought of the salary as a perk. Even so, the brainwashing had begun., in the 70’s . I thought only wimps needed unions. Mea Culpa. Propaganda did not start with Trumpettes. They are making it visible.
Together we stand , brainwashed we have fallen.
After saying all that: here’s my ultimate brain trust.
The idea of tipping is just another way to not pay your employees for their labor.
If you were to be paid a fair salary as a waitress it would be at least $25 per hour.
I send you love, clarity and strength. Time for inspired action.
