The very best “Old School” has Ben on board… I wish he could find time to do the main show and “WTF” more often…
I love Ben’s sense of humor. I get everything he says and I found him hilarious. 50% of what he says is funny (the rest just serious :) )
More Bob!
Ben, THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR is probably my fave Redford film. i also love THE CANDIDATE. those two belong together, but CONDOR really has it all — even the sound effects are powerful.
both of those films have wonderfully ambiguous endings. “What do we do now?” asks McKay, with that great mildly perplexed look on his face. “Hey, Turner, how do you know they’ll print it?” “They’ll print it.” “How do you know?”
each time they play “three days of the condor” on TV, I surrender and watch it once more (probably 30 times at least by now). I love that movie.
I reject the premise that Bernie (or any other Dem for that matter) has anything to worry about re:oppo research in the general election. Nothing dug up on them can come close to what is already publicly known about Trump. Nothing matters anymore. But I have no doubt the corporate Dems are readying the onslaught for the primary.
Have we not learned about people who are just going to lie the #1 Obama told us one thing and did another Ben just hates Bernie Joe Biden had his chance and didn’t take it and what pole dose Biden beat Bernie give me a break and if people went with Biden they get what they should screwed
Did you even watch/listen to the episode? Ben does not hate Bernie, the only difference between Ben and the rest of the TYT people that supported Bernie is that it didn’t take him forever to make the switch from Bernie to Hillary. Ben is 100% right when they come for Bernie he might not be able to make it through. Bernie already showed weakness in responding to attacks in 2016. There were stories floating that he didn’t care about black people like Hillary and so they just plastered him walking with MLK everywhere to which black people (rightfully) responded “but what about now” and they said nothing. Bernie very well could lose the fight to oppo research if he doesn’t learn how to combat it and Ben is 1000% correct to point that out. Ben is also 1000% correct to point out to Cenk that Bernie is not solidly the most popular politician he goes up and down just like everybody else. Cenk largely quotes old polls about how popular Bernie is. Bernie is not unpopular but he is not riding high like he once was.
Bernie people are starting to become Hillary people and it’s scary. “Oh you are pointing out Bernie has a flaw it’s because you want another corporate Democrat” and “it has to be Bernie it’s his time” and “of course Bernie would win and he would do so easily” this is the exact same shit that Hillary warriors said in 2016 and you all are acting so damn blind to it.
It might not be Bernie’s time, he wouldn’t easily win, and pointing out his flaws doesn’t mean I don’t want another progressive. Pull your head out of your ass and actually listen to what people are saying or doom progressives to the same failure that Democrats doomed themselves to in 2016
I love this show as we get to see you being real. One thing I noticed later in the show was about opo research. I’ve said this before but I totally think the corporate Democrats or Republicans did opo research on Cenk. Which is why justice democrats got him to resign. That stuff doesn’t just surface for no reason. He ruffles feathers and speaks against the money. He should have stuck it out to show that some democrats stick it out. I watched his apology many times (for something said 18yrs ago) and there was no reason to resign. It’s crazy that ppl don’t see what’s going on with opo research and destroying the other #istandwithcenk and #istandwithana you guys are amazing and we can see past bullshit
thoughtful and well said :-)
i agree with Shandrill13. Cenk, you are still the best mouthpiece the JDs have, official or not. the new show, Rebel HQ, is FANTASTIC. the best 30-min. advertising/night, 4 days/wk. i love getting to know the candidates from all over. the show last week that featured Wolf-Pac workers was an eye-opener for me. i learned a lot. plus, y’all have fun, too. i’m all in favor of having fun. if you’re always serious, you run the real risk of being mistaken for a “values” voter — someone like Ted Cruz or Paul Ryan or even the turtle, Mitch McConnell — for whom we have Gorsuch to be unthankful. those guys only crack a smile when a big donor gets a mega-tax break or a corporatist sneaks into SCOTUS.
as to oppo research — it’s not in Bernie’s nature; that’s one of the things i love best about him. during his debate with Clinton, she accused him, out of the blue, of laying an “artful smear” on her. that was her exact phrase. i took offense at that accusation; i still do. Bernie is the straightest shooter i’ve ever seen, as politicians go or even as regular citizens go; Clinton is one of the most corrupt. she would do whatever she could to gain an advantage. i wouldn’t be surprised if she had advised her husband to commit the perjury that led to his impeachment. how was she to know about the blue dress?
so, what Bernie needs is a kind of “Justice League” of sorts, or a “CSI Unit” — a group of specialists who do oppo fact-checking and respond to any attacks against Bernie in a timely manner. they would be IT Superheroes, expert investigators who can surmount hard-to-find data at a single click, forensics gumshoes with attitude, and media experts as well. they could, and probably should, coordinate with Bernie’s campaign but leave him free of the burden of sweating the “artful smear” small stuff — though, of course, Bernie would be thoroughly briefed, have complete control over all content, and be responsible for final approval of all activity. i can even envision his group utilizing specialists such as the Paul Ekman Group in their work. https://www.paulekman.com/
Wait, how did “we” fixed the CIA inside CIA? I didn’t catch that. Any reference?
I love my Covfefe shirt the most. It’s sooo soft, and it always gets compliments and smiles. I ordered the very stable genius shirt ages ago, and it hasn’t even shipped yet, so you know that one is super popular, too.
Re: Ben’s point about this administration’s utter incompetence and inability to handle a market crash, should it happen while they’re in charge. Fuck. Devastating point.
Re: Cory Booker’s “impassioned speeches” do not seem genuine at all, AT ALL. I feel like even if I didn’t know what a neoliberal hack he was, then I still wouldn’t have believed his “anger.” His speeches sound like they’re being delivered by a porn star trying to follow a script, just terrible acting.
Ben is the fairy-duster here.
He actually believes that it is possible for a corporate Dem to change, and not take Donor money.
They do not have it in their DNA.
He is visibly bristling, and Bob is whining too, when Cenk mentions Bernie.
Ben is wishing for Biden or Cory or Kamala to RUN!
He cannot stand when anyone mentions Bernie, it’s so weird.
Ben actually believes the media hasn’t been that hard on Bernie!
I said this in the above comment but you guys are turning into Hillary warriors. Ben’s points were valid especially consider Bernie has failed many times to give a good answer to oppo research. Maybe try to listen to his points. Also listen to the part where he said “I hope it’s Bernie”
As for the “not in their DNA” if I rolled my eyes any harder at that they would fall out. Donor money became so popular because there was no other way. Bernie proved there was and so are other people. Many of them cannot turn a new leaf but some of them might if they wake up and realize they can win without the donor money. Not in their DNA is like talking about what is in a politican’s heart it’s meaningless
Yeah, in the pre-internet/social media era trying to win senate seats in big states like New Jersey or New York by not taking large donor money was essentially impossible. While that doesn’t make it “right”, it was the way it was. But yeah fastforwarding to today, I believe politicians should transform into solely small donor funded politicians. In the coming years there will be very little excuses as to why they aren’t funding their campaigns that way.
Would a politician coming out and saying they won’t take any more large donor money cause me to 100% support them whole-heartedly? No, they would still have to gain my trust over a longer period of time. But there’s no question that I would gain a tremendous amount of respect for them. I love Bernie, but setting the bar at him and wanting to fucking crush and shit on every other politician below him all day long is a toxic mindset to have and I have seen it lead to media content from some people that not only doesn’t help the progressive cause, but actually hurts it.
But yeah, Ben generally walks a fine line by playing devil’s advocate on clearly absolutist statements made by Cenk and others (Not saying that to slam Cenk because Cenk is basically why I watch TYT). It causes Ben to not have many allies or supporters. However, I actually do appreciate his perspective even though at times I disagree with him.
Love my Covfefe shirt, just got a compliment on it the other day out in the wild!
Future headline: Bernie Hires Uygur As Campaign Bulldog.
“Whisper of a dream”

Great show even though of cooooourse they didn’t get to the “fun” stuff.
Bob sounds like she’s being tortured back there.
I laughed out loud at work at the Huguenot pun/joke, so thanks for that.
All three are excellent…always enjoy your conversations…thanks! Now, I gotta go sell some stocks =:-0
I’d pay the membership for this show alone. Well, I do.
Inflation is not even a remote possibility in the US now. You really should interview Steve Keen, Stephanie Kelton, Randall Wray or Bill Mitchell on money and Modern Monetary Theory.
They provide an up to date understanding of the monatary system and when you first get your head around it it seems so obvious …
Anyway I’m sure any of them would give you and more importantly your viewers a far better understanding of the basics insights that overlaps Keens Minsky inspired, closely related and mostly overlapping general insights insights on how the monetary system works after the demise of the Gold Standard. MMT is not only mindblowing, but if generally understood and accepted it will shut down the any perceived validity of the deficit and debt argument that constantly is used as cover when the donors via they’re congressional servants wants to take your social security money and transfer it to themselves.
U should have Steve Keen on no matter what and give his critique of neoclassical economics. He is brilliant and deliver his insights with hard hitting and dry one-liners. he is also one of the only handful of leading academic economists who so the crisis coming, but Keen also predicted the anemic recovery and the nature it has taken…
Good information, thanks.
Cenk and Ben should be Bernie’s campaign managers–I mean ASSKICKERS! Ana as well. You’d all have to take a sabbatical though. Great show, as usual!
Agreed, but use the whole of TYT as campaign managers, not just Cenk and Ben.
Ben and Cenk
I love TCM and have also been a paying member of TYT for a long time. Cenk please dont put down classic films. They are such a slice of history with amazing acting.
Fastest upload in my memory, bravo and thanks gang! Great Old School, Dunkirk was thrilling and I hope it does well during the awards season.
