  1. Awesome! We need more on camera Edwin. He’s funny, engaging, &, let’s face it, one of the best Friday Post Game players. 2 outta 5 on the first game has got to be a record. Seriously tho, more Edwin please.

  2. Edwin is so awesome! Full of positive energy, he should definitely be on more Friday post games! Malcolm was a bit overzealous, but that’s his personality, overall I enjoyed this post game :)

  3. What’s up Edwin. I like watching TYT PERIOD. Its funnier when you laugh because it’s contagious, so keep it up and keep laughing brother.

  4. I think Malcom elicited genuine curiosity about Edwin’s background because he didn’t grow up with those experiences. Fair argument that he may have talked more than a traditional interviewer. But they’re probably friends, so Malcolm probably felt more comfortable interviewing him than someone else.
On a similar note, I really enjoyed that post game. Humanizing TYT is a great strength y’all have, and is one of the reasons why I happily pay my member dues. Your candidness makes us feel invested in the company, and the people working there. How often do I find myself talking back to the TV, or yelling “of coooourse!” back at Cenk?! It also makes (most of) our criticisms constructive, because we want TYT to succeed. Keep up the good work guys, and cheers to the Proud 19!

  5. The moment Malcolm wise-cracked about Edwin “horse back riding” I said “Not a joke! Compton Junior Posse!”

    https://www.comptonjrposse.org

These kids win blue ribbons in dressage shows all the time. They also trail-ride all over. When I lived down south, I rode with The Rainbow Riders, whose multi-racial membership came from neighborhoods all over Los Angeles, anywhere still zoned to allow backyard horse-keeping (you’d be surprised how many do). We’d trailer our horses to a designated trail-head, and ride all day through the mountains or along river washes, with picnic lunches in our saddlebags. Great times, great people, nearly all blue-collar… it is simply not true that only wealthy people have horses.

  6. I really love Malcolm, but…

Malcolm: Tell us more about how you were gang-affiliated.
Edwin: [confused look] Uh, I just had, y’know, friends. But there was this one time when were hanging out…
Malcolm: Ok, then, tell us about how those gang kids were never gonna get to college.
    Edwin: [thinks] Uh…
Malcolm: What about how scary it was growing up?
    Edwin: No, I wasn’t…
Malcolm: How about run-ins with the police?
    Edwin: [tells his story]
    Malcolm: [silent at last]

    1. This is a fair criticism too. I think I was trying to elicit certain stories from Edwin that he neglected to share during the postgame – like about the giant rumble-like fights that routinely broke out in his high school between rival Mexican and African-American gangs, and the number of kids he grew up with who wound up dead, homeless or in prison, but the specific language I used may have sounded like I was “leading the witness” and reinforcing stereotypes about 1990s-era Compton.

    1. Your opinion is just a single, virtually meaningless data point. Clearly we need to stage a real, old-fashioned cuck-off between the two of us.

  7. Geez let the man talk, let him finish his stories! Malcolm is like another John Iadarola, he will always interrupt you half way through your sentence.

    1. This is a fair criticism. In my eagerness to get a fuller backstory, I have a bad habit of interrupting to fill in what I sense are missing pieces.

  8. This was a most enjoyable show. Edwin was fascinating, I hope we will see more of him. Thank you Edwin for sharing your story. Now I want to read John Baker’s book.

  9. It was great getting to know Edwin… and crazy to find out he used to work at KALX!

I stream KALX all the time. What an excellent radio station… And what a great Friday Post-Game.

  10. ?EDWIN? What an enlightening listen your life is. Does epic Latin America knowledge man Dave Koller know of your El Salvador roots? And hey, being tight with the church saved you out there, man. In so many ways you’ll probably never know. Being a girl saved me out there but wouldn’t’ve had I stayed beyond 9 years old I think.

Totally looking forward to meeting you Edwin. What Japanese heavy metal band was that you featured on your old show? C-Japan maybe?

  11. Edwin is wonderful! You have to have him back on another post game. Also, his laugh has a way of making me smile no matter what. :)

  12. Lovely to meet Edwin, and hear about his life. Bubbles we all live in bubbles. When I moved to SF I thought the bars on the windows were decorative! Since buying my home in West Oakland ( in 1989)I have heard the gun shots in 5 homicides, but I have a farm in my back yard and the streets are another world. fun to hear about other peoples journeys.
