  1. As a Jamaican living in Jamaica, Cenk is right. We are predominantly of Arican decent and there’s prejudice heavily, even though the minority white and asian population are in a place of socio-economic power.

  2. On the teacher story, tyt needs to provide more context. When the teacher says that the “teachers haven’t gotten a raise in years”, this statement is somewhat misleading. Teachers’ salaries are calculated based on years of service or also known as steps. First-year teachers would be on step 1 and teachers with 10 years of service would be on step 10. After each year the teacher moves up to the next step and each step has a higher salary than the lower step. So a teacher automatically gets a “raise” every year. When they say that the teachers haven’t gotten a raise in years, they mean that all the steps have not been moved up. In other words, step 1 and all the other steps have stayed the same for many years.

You could make the case that the superintendent was being underpaid.

“Puyau’s previous salary of $110,130 was ranked 57th out of the 69 school district superintendents in the state of Louisiana.

With the pay-raise approved, his salary is now about $140,000, which moves him up in pay rank to 32nd among superintendents in the state.

The Vermilion Parish School Board approved the amount of the increase, called an ‘index factor’ at 2.6; the superintendent explains how that index factor is used to come up with his new salary.

“If you take the current base salary of a teacher, multiply by 2.6, that is my salary. Which is 140,811,” says Puyau.”

Having said all of that, the teacher has a right to complain and maybe it is time the teachers get a raise. The board shouldn’t have removed her or had her arrested.

  3. Ana, I love you, but it’s the Caucasus. CaucASUS. If Armenians were from the Caucus, their race would be Caucian.

  4. Disappointing to hear that TYT is showing the Sanders town hall on Facebook. I don’t like and don’t use FB. Why not on TYT or even youtube?? You want to stream on facebook, fine, but please, please consider putting somewhere else too!

    1. Its because its an easy format to use from a different site , it also has more chance to reach more people via Facebook on a live feed as people will shared it there and then with there friends will see and ao forth . YouTube doesnt have the same live influences that Facebook does, Facebook has become a valuable tool with both politics and news and your finger tips, you dont have to go to different sites to get different information. There has been times where things are covered on Facebook before the media get it, you may not like it but it has become an essential part of life

  5. That black cop would have pushed that white woman to the floor as soon as she warded him off with her hand if they were not in front of a crowd. Disrespecting a cop is punishable by summary execution.

  6. The rhetorical strategy here, Cenk:
    1) I love this country.
    2) Whether you agree or disagree with the impetus for the conflict (the eggrecious raise and wage and power disparity evident in the reaction of the superintendant who then enjoys the arm of the law).
    3) You can see that its wrong to arrest the teacher, right?

    1) This strategy is weaksauce. A fighter would not meddle around with the prefice of oh now Im not being too hearsh or unfair here, as you can see, Im telling you “I love this country”. What Cenk is doing there is what he accuses liberals news people of doing; I want to be respectable, that’s the only way my criticism can be taken seriously by the right people.

    2) The heart of the issue needs exactly what you claim to give on your show, context! What is the meaningful context of this story? The pay and power disparity, which resulsts in this totalitarian treatment of workers. You gotta swing for that broader context instead of trying to appease your phantoms who think that US levels of the wealth disparity is okay. Hint hint: Your audience is looking for a path to fight back against that wage and power disparity, remember?

    3) Who the fuck are you talking to? Where is your message inteded to go? Well when youve glossed over the heart of the issue, and a forceful framing of the story along with the mounds of other like stories you cover, then all your left with is mealy-mouthed appeals to decency… and from whom? Who are you asking to be nicer? We can all agree that she shouldn’t be arrested? Who in your mind are you talking to?

  7. Annas whole rant about being coddled and exposing yourself to ideas ala Ben Shapiro was born from a discussion about a professor getting death threats for a course on racism. Thats so fucking liberal its crazy. How do you make that discussion about safe spaces and being triggered?! “Both sides” says Cenk. Here’s the deal: There is no valuable debate with the guy calling the professor a mongrell. He aint having a conversation with you, hes just attacking you in the way that seems effective to him. And here it has you using the language of being triggered. So your losing Anna and Cenk…

    1. She’s discussed the banning of public speakers on college campuses many times before. It’s something’s she’s passionate about. The argument is that no one’s speech should be disallowed.

In this case, I don’t believe the class and the anger towards the class are related to Ana’s issue. She was just saying that these are the same people that advocate for free speech from their side, but not the other.

  8. In the NHS in the UK I get 9 months paid maternity leave !! Weeks 1-5 full pay then drops to half pay PLUS government maternity allowance which totals more than three quarters of your actual pay up until 6 months. After 6 months it’s just maternity allowance. It’s amazing how far behind the US is compared to the UK and Europe …

  9. And don’t forget that The Government Pension Fund Global ( Oil Fund ) in Norway, has over a 1 trillion US$ in assets, maybe that has somthing to do with it??

Link to the The Government Pension Fund Global ( Oil Fund ) page:

  10. In this police state the first amendment has apparently been repealed if a teacher can be violently arrested for peacefully questioning a government official. heil trumpler!

      1. Why do her looks have to be brought up at all? She’s intelligent, easily understood when she explains the news, and asks the right questions. THAT’s all that should matter. NOT her looks!

  11. Ok, seriously the guy make be a great professor, I don’t know… or maybe it’s just the wrong picture? But anyway the guy teaching the “Whites Are Racist” class looks like the leader of an MS-13 prison gang from “Locked Up” on MSNBC. I’m just keeping it real, that is one scary looking dude. He’s not smiling or anything either – it’s a weird photo, unless he’s TRYING to trigger white people.

Also I feel I need to point out that if a black man was being dragged out of a meeting of the school board by a white male cop TYT would be calling the cop a racist, and you all know that’s true. But it was a white woman being dragged out by a black man, so why isn’t he automatically racist against whites (and sexist, too!)? That cop wasn’t just “doing his job”, get real! He was enjoying sticking it to an educated white female because of all the racism he believes he’s faced in his life. That’s just my opinion, and maybe it’s controversial, but I think that cop enjoyed himself. He didn’t have to slam that poor woman to the ground and drag her out – he liked it.

  12. I have worked in over 39 countries in the world, and some of the biggest shitheaps are in the southern states of the USA.

  13. I took an amazing course in College called “Sociology of Whiteness”. Ironically, I was the only “white” person in the classroom but that was the most soul searching, “Come to Jesus” course I ever took. I literally tore down every social bias, every cultural and regional taboo I had acquired and dissected the ever loving crap out of it. Best semester of my career and the hardest one ever.

  14. Who says “like” in a tweet? Right Ana. So now that we’re talking about grammar and English, everyone on TYT could use a little refresher. This may be a pain, but it would improve credibility on TYT:

“Him running for congress…” –> “His running for congress” (use possessive with gerund, so “their running” etc.)
“If he was running” –> “If he were running.” (use conditional tense)
“Try and run for congress…” –> “Try to run for congress…” (use “to” for infinitive form)
“Who did you vote for?” –> “Whom did you vote for?” (use “whom” when an object.)
“Can you send that to Cenk and I?” –> “Can you send that to Cenk and me?” (use “me” when an object)
“Can you give that to myself?” –> “Can you give that to me?” (myself is only for reflexive situations (I gave that to myself.))
“He is the one that likes single payer.” –> “He is the one who likes single payer.” (use “who” with a person)

    1. One of the things I most like about watching TYT is their camaraderie and how real they are on camera. If I wanted stuffy, I’d be watching PBS Newshour.

    2. Urghhh. Me thinks you’re an insufferable prick. I for one enjoy the informalities of the show. Thanks for cementing my preconception that reading the comment section is a waste of time.

    3. Do you understand the difference between the spoken word, for a bunch of people whose job it is to talk, and a WRITTEN Tweet? Is that concept beyond you? Or have you never miss-spoken? They likely say more words on air in a day than the average person does in a week. See the difference yet? Or are you terminally myopic?

    4. There’s a big difference between putting something in writing which you have time to think about, and talking off the cuff (with no teleprompter) for two hours.

  15. An interesting article by New York Mag today, called “The Progressive Case for Giving Trump His Stupid Wall”:
    http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/01/the-progressive-case-for-giving-trump-his-stupid-wall.html
The author makes a fairly persuasive argument that while it’s a stupid, ineffective waste of tax payer dollars, it’s actually not much compared to what the Pentagon admittedly wastes year after year. And if it means that a significant number of at-risk communities are spared, it might be a worthwhile, humanitarian compromise.
I support a good fight, but we might have more to gain by giving our child president the one thing he really wants – a big, stupid wall.

  16. FYI, I was an overnight worker for Wal-Mart. In the last two years they have started doing away the overnight position. They took the $1 pay increase away from us when they moved us to days. That’s on top of them removing a Sunday premium, where if you worked Sunday you got an extra dollar per hour. When adjusted for inflation, I am making less for Walmart than I was at the beginning of 2016. They also laid off a massive amount of managerial jobs/positions across the company. All they are doing is moving around the numbers, and saying it is because of the tax bill.

  17. Cenk, I can’t believe the globalists have gotten to you. Blacks have enslaved white and discriminated against white people in the United States for over centuries! But now that slavery and segregation are outlawed, the blacks are locking us up for carrying weed. Outrageous!

  18. Cenk, you dont understand basic economics. If you raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, by definition the working class has less money in their pockets. If you really want to help the working class, you have to give a 6 trillion dollar tax cut to the rich and 4.5 trillion dollar tax increase to the poor and middle class!
