Don’t think you can say enough about the relevance of press freedom in our current moment. Guts and truth-telling is more essential than ever in American newsrooms. This movie gives us context.
SPOILERS IN THIS I agree with the review. I loved the movie. I loved that Ray came from nobodies. I hope that doesn’t change. It shows that Jedi come from anyone, you don’t have to inherit it. I didn’t think there was too much humor, or it was stupid. All the SW movies have snarky commentary and lots of funny parts. Leia surviving the vacuum of space? eeh, the one thing I thought went a bit too far. But, not near enough to make me not like the movie.
As for the Rose character, I like her. She had the best line of the move. I only saw the movie once so my quote might not be exact. “We won’t win by destroying the things we hate, we win by saving the things we love” I will have the quote memorized accurately soon.
I have been a fan from the beginning,1977. I am not hung up on “that isn’t cannon” and all that. I think the books, comics and movies call all be “cannon” . Call them what if stories, or alternative universe kind of things.
I HAVE TO SEE IT MANY MORE TIMES.
ps. Ironic that the only human character from the original movies to survive it the one who died in real life.
The movie struggled with dialog akin to csi dramas and force fed corny humor that absolutely took away from a great mix of new ideals and direction to the star wars saga. It was breath taking on the eyes but my honest takeaway was one of distraction. Immersive moments eclipsed by over dramatization and almost amateur plot Segways. Not to mention silly distractions like falling bombs in space, and battering ram cannons. It struggled on bouncing between captivating and irrelevant. Outside of all of the actual issues I think the movie had, the pointless personal annoyance I felt was the lack of development leading to the quick and underwhelming death of snope. No complaints that he was killed only the lack of explanation to his great evil. I know full well this could be explained in the next movie and that is a complaint that has no merit. It’s not my story to tell, yet the scene did leave me as a fan disappointed. I just hope they find someone who can write a little deeper and less ridiculous dialogue going forward. Star Wars does not need added drama. The story is of everything or nothing far into the future of space. Fingers crossed they dial back the outlandish humor and dial in the dialogue because of the story is truly new fresh and intriguing.

Can you guys review “Dark” (from Netflix)? I think that would introduce a lot of interesting conversation and debate!
