so can we agree that Free Speech doesn’t EXIST IN FRANCE?! EVER!?
People don’t seem to understand (I’m pretty sure I’m correct on this but maybe it’s different in different states and countries with different laws) but when something becomes illegal, even when you say “no jail time, just a fine” first off, joe much is the fine going to be? $100? $200? $500? $1000? Because people can’t always pay fines. And then you’ll have some people with 10 fines and they haven’t paid them and they owe 1500 in fines, PEOPLE GO TO JAIL FOR UNPAID FINES… so yes, you would end up with people in jail for doing nothing but making a fucking joke. That’s the second problem I have with this French dipshit. You’re literally going to make certain jokes illegal? Absolute fucking moron. That’s like saying we are going to make knock-knock jokes illegal and fine people for saying them. If a comedian made one at a stand up show, is someone gonna be in the crowd or side of the stage writing tickets? What if he hands him a ticket for the illegal knock knock joke, and he proceeds to tell another, and another, and another? Isn’t that like disobeying an officers commands to stop and continuing to do illegal activities? Or at least a 3rd strike after he keeps telling more jokes? It’s just so fucking retarded. It’s called a joke for a fucking reason, if you make an actual law saying a certain type of joke is illegal and carries a certain amount of a fine, that’s a violation of freedom of speech and it’s just fucking retarded, you’d have people going to jail for unpaid fines for saying a joke. Then they’d be doing slave labor to work it off or pay it off with time spent in prison for telling a joke. It’s absolute abuse of the power of the government. Now if someone is harassing a specific person with nonstop disgusting sexual jokes and it is seriously bad crossing the line, I can see that being a fine or someone getting arrested, but that’s harassment and like verbal assault and verbal abuse, but never EVER make a law saying certain jokes are illegal, it’s absolutely ridiculous, the French dipshit who is talking about it is a complete fucking dumbshit. How clueless can he be. Taking away your freedom of speech by making a fucking type of joke illegal. I can’t imagine lawmakers writing it down in legislation “It shall be against the law to say a joke about a woman or women.” They should all just light the building on fire if they’re stupid enough to even begin that process. It’s the same thing with people walking and texting. It’s one thing to make that illegal where it’s actually dangerous like in cars or maybe on the actual street or while crossing the street, but if you’re in a pedestrian area and it’s illegal for you to walk and text, that’s an unbelievable unconstitutional abuse of power, and you’d have people in jail for unpaid fines, people in jail for walking down the street texting. You can’t make simple fucking freedoms like that illegal. We will eventually not be allowed to speak or do anything willfully if you’re in public without being fined, becoming afraid to speak to people or do anything but walk silently heads straight forward until we reach our destination, and no more jokes, no more sarcasm, no more anger- anger would scare people and cops would fear for their lives and shoot you instantly, anger would be an offense that would land you in jail. Crying would be a noise fine, and if you could say someone caused you to cry, they’ll be fined too and possibly thrown in jail. That’s the potential when you do crazy shit like making walking and texting illegal, or making certain jokes illegal. Harassment is still illegal so excessive targeted jokes aimed to scare a specific person or make them feel hated or unwanted in life, that can be considered illegal harassment, but not simple fucking jokes. Fucking dipshits out there I swear.
I absolutely can’t believe when they always talk about the horrible racisms in Europe. There are race riots in Germany???????? I live in Germany, there are no race riots. Also noone ever says the N-word on television, I haven’t heart anything like that in the street for years.
It’s unbelievable that a country where unarmed black people running away get shot in the streets by police without anything happening to the COPs calls out Europe for being racist. The economic competitive racism Mexicans have to deal with exists in economically poor areas, but there is nothing close to what african Americans have to deal with!!!!!!!!
The US has much the same racism problem as Europe: A lot of areas are pretty much one race where there is a lot of fear of other races, but then you’ve got areas where there is a lot of different races, where there is no or minimal problem.
Re European Racism:
The PM of Ireland is half Indian.
Here in the UK we have 52 non-white MPs, 2 in the cabinet until a few weeks ago when one had to resign, 5 in the shadow cabinet and, of course, a Muslim mayor in London who is good friends with Mr Trump lol.
On the mainland continent they do have a problem with political representation of ethnic minorities and I think part of the problem is the electoral system.
Here in the UK with have local constituencies decided by one vote and the person with the most votes wins.
This means that areas that are largely non-white tend to return non-white MPs.
In Europe they have various forms of Proportional Representation which produces a fairer result in many ways but because some systems use national list systems or multi-member constituencies the strength of a localized non-white electorate is reduced.
Honestly, the person sitting in the middle today is talking out of his ass about Europe. Sounds like he has bought into all of the click bate on social media, without actually finding out the facts.
By the way, hate speech is against the law in Canada too.
One place we could start with hate speech about women: The guards in jails. As a nurse I was disgusted by the guards calling the male Inmates “women” as a put down. It reinforced that even if you are in jail it could be worse: you could be a girl or a women.
I’m not sure where you think he went wrong. Europe is extremely racist and many non-white populations live in in segregated populations. It’s different groups in different European nations.
@gathly
I would really like to get specific information on Europe’s extremely racism and the segregation. Segregation indicates that there are laws to keep the different ethnicities segregated. I don’t know about non-EU European countries but within the EU there are no such laws. On the contrary, the EU is very much concerned with anti-discrimination and equality.
no segregation doesn’t mean only if there are segregation laws. If your racist society pushes certain ethnicities into ghettos and slums without specific laws, it’s still segregation.

“Black people in Europe report widespread racism in anti-immigration context”
http://enar-eu.org/Black-people-in-Europe-report-widespread-racism-in-anti-immigration-context
Good, now we begin talking. The problem with missing anti-discrimination laws against black people in Europe is that there are already anti-discrimination laws in place. Is it necessary or wise to separate discrimination against (mostly) African immigrants from let’s say Indian or Turkish immigrants? Or doesn’t it make more sense to condemn and penalise all kinds of discrimination?
I am very much aware that there is a rise in racism in all European countries. Mostly fueled by a rise in pro-fashist movements like Germany’s AfD, France’s Front National etc. And as everywhere else there is a systemic racism. Mot humans have this tendencies to shy away from people who “don’t look like us”, so being not racist is a conscious decision to make. Which can and should be supported by the government. Which in most European countries it is. Even with the ban lieu in Paris. And every day racism is a fact almost everywhere. Just like every day sexism is. And it should be pointed out and it is being pointed out.
I suppose most TYT members who are not US American see themselves and are progressives who are already fighting for equality and against discrimination. To throw them under the bus in a generalised way like this is disappointing, coming from a host in a network that is holding up the truth flag proudly over their heads.
Europe (whichever Europe you mean) is not “super racist”. Depending on the country you live in and depending on where in the country you live in discrimination against all people from other countries or even other parts of the same country is more or less high. But it is not higher than every where else.
Had he said “there is a growing problem with racism in many European countries” I would have agreed wholeheartedly. The way it was said was disappointing coming from a network like TYT. And it was disappointing to see Brett and Ben agreeing with it the way they did.
And another thing: Paris is not everywhere. There are no race riots in the streets of Frankfurt or Göteborg or Rome. Please, don’t only take Paris and throw us all in one bucket. Europe is big and full of a lot of different people and countries and most of them are trying to be sensible or even nice to each other independent of ethnicity or sex or religion.
Do we talk about the same guy? “Nando is just sucking up to weak democratic policy.” I’m pretty sure he’s an Aggressive Progressive, he disagrees with Cenk on Russia and other issues, he’s somewhere between Kyle Kulinski and Cenk…
good points but I’d like to note for the record that we don’t need to look towards impoverished South American countries to illustrate low standards of living.
“… this is as nonsensical as saying ‘America is a very poor part of the world’ based on the” living standards in rural Mississippi, Arkansas or most any other red state.
In the south eastern states, hookworm is making a comeback, due to inadequate (or non-existent) sewage systems. Millions of rural Americans live without indoor plumbing or electricity.
We used to feel superior to the USSR because they did not have freedom — now we have become the authoritarian surveillance state. We used to feel superior to banana republics because they were poor — now over half of Americans live in poverty, some in shockingly abject conditions.
this comment was supposed to be in REPLY to nemoignorat below. Don’t know why it appears as a stand-alone.
I was right.
This is same the same shit as Hour 1, except Amberia escaped the Romper room.
Lots of testosterone and NO women over 40 to direct this TYT version of The Man Show.
Al Franken should not resign! Brett and Nando I could care less what they think because Brett is goofy and Nando is just sucking up to weak democratic policy. I’m surprised at Ben though, disappointed really, Franken was doing a juvenile prank for a camera. that is obvious. This does not compare to most of the touching and aggressive behavior against women today. He apologized and it was accepted, move the fuck on! Stop falling into the trap being set by the republican’ts, think!
Yes! I don’t get why people keep on saying he should resign over something that deserves an apology and a larger discussion about why it’s inappropriate. It just seems like a political point constantly pushed by Franken’s enemies without proper justification.
Nando never does anything but cause trouble at TYT and I’m frankly dumbfounded that TYT keeps putting him on. I wanted to like him when I first saw him on TYT, but every time he was on he’d make a major mistake that would f*** up the hour he was on. I think we’d have all rather had Amberia stay on for the 2nd hour – I mean we’re basically unanimous that we’d like Amberia hired on full-time, right guys? I’m glad we’re getting more of her at least, as many of us continually ask for that at TYT, and if she’s available to be hired full-time I add my voice to the chorus saying ABSOLUTELY DO IT! But Nando… just, no.
Nando Vila your comments on Europe was massively disappointing…Europe hadn’t had black and brown people like America has and we haven’t learnt to deal with them is so wrong it’s offensive. The USA is such a new country in comparison, all nations struggle with racism but America wins hands down, learn about European history before chucking out comments like that. Been and Brett your awesome.
Yea genral statements like that are genrally inaccurate to say the least …..un less ur talking about new zealenders we all know there just a bunch of sheep fucking austrlian wana bes
“Europe is super racist” – This was a very disappointing statement. Exactly the kind of undifferentiated generalised statement I would have not expected from a media outlet like TYT.
First of all, what do you mean with Europe? Europe is a continent. And a statement like this is as nonsensical as saying ‘America is a very poor part of the world’ based on the GDP of Honduras, El Salvador and Tuvalu.
As the American continent consists of a lot of very different countries with very different political, cultural and economical situations so is Europe. Even the EU is not a single entity but a conglomerate of 28 different states. And yes, some states are closer than others but every time I am in France or in Italy or Poland or the UK or Greece or Croatia or Lithuania I notice how different we all are. And it is a small wonder we worked together so well up to now. We speak 24 different official languages in the EU alone. Not to mention the whole of Europe. A part of the countries lived behind the iron curtain up until quite recently. And their post war experience was totally different from the other countries on the other side of it.
What I would like to say is that yes, there is racism in all European countries as there is everywhere else. Unfortunately racists and hate speech and hate crimes are on a kind of rise again. So there is reason to point it out where ever it happens and there is reason to pursue hate speech and hate crime as the punishable offence that it is. And it is very unfortunate that is has not been pursued that much in the last 30 years. Too often it was seen as a trivial offence and people got off with a slap on the wrist. The political climate is toughening up everywhere. But this still doesn’t qualify a generalisation like “Europe is super racist”.
On which information do you base this statement and the other aside remarks concerning “European racism”?
Usually TYT is very differentiated and tries not to generalise like that. I would have wished it stayed that way when the hosts comment on something that doesn’t concern the USA directly.
By all means, make a feature out of it. Research, inform yourself, get in-depth information. But don’t generalise like that.
When you have a news show you can decide what happens on it, ‘til then.. Enjoy the awesome humor of Brett and Ben
More straight insight on the news please, less competition in the juvenile joke department. It is bloody wearing.
Melania is fucking weird.
