Dear Rick Perry – It would be WAY cheaper to use wind and solar to power small villages in Africa. Especially since they wouldn’t have to continue paying for fuel shipments to power plants.
I think it’s really crummy that they didn’t post the other three hours on this website. I too try to avoid FB.
Alison’s actblue donation site, earlier someone already posted the JD site. https://secure.actblue.com/donate/hartson

Okay maybe it’s because it’s a big day for you guys at TYT/JDems but i’m a little annoyed with how you covered the Rick Perry piece.
1) obviously he’s a doofus and just pandering to fossil fuel companies and there are plenty of options for creating electricity, as you mentioned (solar, wind etc)
but
2) the need for light for these highly under-privileged girls and women to BOTH study and be more protected is NOT a silly/nonsense idea. I appreciated the ‘maybe’ sentiment at the end from John but honestly it seemed like you both thought the entire idea was a crock of shit.
Imma school you lads.
In a lot of places around the world (not just in certain parts of Africa) girls do not get the same educational opportunities as boys, especially if they have brothers and the family can only afford to send one child (they’re more likely to send the boy). In such instances girls stay home and do housework (so parents can earn) or actual outside the home work to earn for the family and can only get a chance to look over reading or educational materials (if they’re lucky and they have a sibling willing to share with them) at …. NIGHT. So the need for reliable, sustained sources of light is a serious issue in promoting the education of women and girls – which countless studies have shown is the best path forward out of desperate poverty and inequity in ‘third world countries’.
For girls who are lucky enough to go to school-they need the light to do their homework. Did we all do homework during the daylight hours? I’m guessing lots of us had a desk and lamp or a kitchen table with indoor lighting – never even had to think about ‘how can I do this work, if i can’t see it?’
RE the sexual assault/rape part of this – totally a real issue, not just in poverty stricken communities, but also in displaced persons camps or refugee camps – lack of lighting is a huge issue where it concerns the safety of girls/boys and women.
I have a friend who worked, first because ‘he was there and could help’ then got hired by NGO’s, during the aftermath of the Nepal earthquakes, in setting up such ‘lighting initiatives’. Before he got hired and just happened to be traveling while it struck, he and a mate decided to take their motorbikes to the more remote regions where the NGO trucks could not access, to bring the people food and temporary sheltering items while they waited for official aid. He ran out of cash quick doing this so set up a ‘donation’ thing and we chipped in – he got hired by IOM soon after and didn’t end up using all the donations so before he left Nepal months later, he asked all the people who donated if they would be willing to let him use the money to buy and set up solar powered/battery lights – both for use of families while displaced (he recounted how a little girl would come to his makeshift office after dark every night and use his work lamp with him, just so she could try and do some study in the chaos) and most importantly, for the use of lighting pathways from the tents to the toilet blocks and inside the toilet blocks because this was where women and children were most vulnerable to assault – during the dead of night, where no one could see it happening. Obviously we all said yes, and he installed these safety measures because after being on the ground for a month or two, it became clear this was a massive problem with an easy solution if there was money and drive for it.
No one thinks light alone will stop assault and rape, but to minimise the effect it can definitely have is reckless and honestly made you seem a little heartless, however I’m hoping to put it down to your ignorance on the topic and that you had other things to focus on today – but even though the fossil fuels aspect is bullshit, the need for light is NOT.
End of rant.
What’s the URL to donate to Allison’s campaign??

I am not saying I disagree with or think it’s bad (someone has to do it), but can they really call themselves independent non-bias news if they are supporting politicians?
They’re very open about their progressive agenda. They’re just independent in the sense that they’re not backed by corporations or politicians telling them to have a specific agenda; they run on their own instead.
And by “backed” I mean they’re not specifically paid by corporations or politicians to say anything.
I don’t think they claim to be non-biased. They tend to be pretty clear when they are presenting facts and when it is speculation/opinion. Their main issue with mainstream news is that they pretend to be non-biased, but obviously cater to one end of the political spectrum or the other, or just the establishment in general. The important piece is being upfront about the bias so the listener knows where the presenter’s perspective is coming from.
I placed the following post to Facebook in response to Trump being told about “Donna B’s new book”… I know he didn’t read it himself… He tweeted about, “Crooked Hillary stealing the Democratic Primary from Crazy Bernie”… I’m posting it here, because Facebook will probably take it down…
“I can’t forgive HRC for losing to Trump and putting the Trumpanzees in charge… The political establishment was going to lose to a populist even a lying conman like P Donny T… I’ve been a registered Democrat for 55 years, but have moved my monetary support to the Justice Democrats”…
The only way that fossil fuels can fight sexual assault is if we tar and feather rapists.
I have faith in Gigi. She will get us the other three hours!!
Good luck having faith in Gigi lol

I believe in Alison and I happily donated to her campaign. Love from AZ.
If the GOP wanted a popular tax reform plan, make payroll taxes zero! That would stimulate the economy directly. Wake up folks, this plan will move the US economic system to a place that looks like Mexico.
This one oversight really pissed me off. 1.4% is not enough for and Endowment tax the only sensible part of the tax plan and John says “Because screw universities” well I think when you have $35
billion tax free as Harvard does in purely endowments you should keep every dime FFS, just fundraising to improve things I’m sure made in a bake sale.
$35 billion Harvard
$27.2 billion Yale
$22.4 billion Standford

Indeed. Professor Richard Wolff frequently talks about this problem. Taxing university endowments would be healthy for our economy.

@bm3racer Thanks a lot. I was looking for that. I just wish they would post it on their own website so I can find it. I don’t use facebook and won’t be anytime soon.
Yeah… they need to post it in the overtime section or something.
see above
Thanks very much I was becoming frustrated trying to find it
Thanks for being my hero.
Good second hour. I would like to watch more about government policy than whether Ellen should go ogling Katy Perry’s breast.
Cenk said the California primary was in June 2018. Didn’t they change that to March?
The bronx members bro we gotta go out for some chelas ? Im in the bx too
Really happy to see John back on a regular basis. Its been two weeks without Brett on the main show, and I could not be happier!!! Just in time too, I was about to cancel my membership!
Cenk: “I’m trying hard not to call people stupid.”
John: “Why? There’s a lot of stupid around, and it needs to be identified and cataloged.”
John, you are the best. I laughed so hard I started choking. Almost died. Totally worth hearing that joke.
Where can we find the rest? After hour 2?

Next time you do extra hours, we hope you’ll let us know where to find it. I was hoping to watch it tonight, but I guess not.
Where did the 3 hours go to.?…….
I am wondering the same thing. I’ve looked all over.
These tax cuts should be characterised as war on the 99%. Raising the deficit which sells out the children.
Where do we download the rest? (After hour 2)
Yeah, anybody know where it is?
