  1. I’m a fairly small person, so coach doesn’t usually bother me. I have enough room to sit and maybe lean my head to one side or the other to sleep. Usually I just listen to audiobooks or watch a movie. But one flight I had from Hawaii to the mainland (about an 8 hour flight), I was stuck in the middle seat and the guy on the end was gigantic! He was halfway over into my seat just by being there, so every single time he moved he bumped me somehow. It was so miserable!

I have found a way to sort of “cheat” one airline, though. They charge extra if you choose seats in the exit row, because you get an extra two inches of leg space or whatever. But, I just buy a ticket and don’t choose a seat. Then, they have to assign whatever is left to me when I get there, and it’s usually one of those exit row seats because no one wants to pay $50-$100 more for two extra inches! Muahahaha!!!

  2. Two things: 1. Cenk, if your flight had a meal scheduled, then a crew member ate your meal…though depending on the time of day (red eye) there may not have been a meal.
    2. How adorable was Ana’s business class story? Well, as a gratefully retired f/a, I gotta little choked-up. So glad you had a great experience Ana, you deserve it…WE ALL DESERVE IT!!! The reality is, most of the time you’re stuck in a metal tube, surrounded by ASSHOLES: coughing, sneezing, farting and don’t even get me started on the stinky feet…Now, even though I have life time benefits, I only fly when absolutely necessary.

  3. If you are betting on someone not booking the middle seat, book your aisle/window seats all the way at the back of the plane to maximize your chances.

  4. I’m about to fly coach to Vietnam. Ahhh! After my flight. We have a six hour bus ride to our family’s house. I’m going to lose my mind

  5. I’ve never had the Business Class experience either, myself, so I am greatly amused by Ana’s “first” experience with it here. Gawd I LOVE Ana, she is so awesome, and she deserves Business Class, CENK!!! What airline was this Ana? I really want to know. I’m dirt poor but she’s made me want to splurge just ONCE before I croak!

PS- For Ana: “The REMAINDER of his contract! THE REMAINDER!!!” ;-)

PPS- Tell us what you thought of those WARM NUTS in your mouth Cenk? Inquiring minds want to know! Were they salty nuts? hehehe he said nuts hehehe

  6. I’m ashamed, but last time I flew First Class (last minute upgrade), I went into the First Class Bathroom, and took a First Class maxi pad. I then gave it to my wife, telling her that’s the most expensive Maxi-Pad she’ll ever have.

To be real – before 9/11, and even before then, we were treated much better on airlines. First Class back them was equivalent to Business Class in the way, and manner you were treated. First Class today is basically Coach a couple decades ago – at least in how you were treated, most meals, seat configuration, etc…

I know things have changed, but it’s true.

    1. So true, I share your sentiments on this one! Back in the day (20 years ago, lol) when I did a RT to Seattle, WA I think from Austin, TX on America West (which doesn’t exist anymore, sadly) they gave you decent/at least the minimum space in coach, AND they had meals if you wanted to pay a little bit extra ($3 or something in-flight), but even for those of us who didn’t pay that they gave you (“for free”) what they called a “Snack Box”, which had like some really nice cookies, like half a chilled/pre-made sandwich (with decent fixins), chips, pickle, and I think some kind of chocolate minty candies at the end for your breath. It was a goodly amount of food, no charge, in addition to basically as much free pretzels as you wanted as well as free non-alcoholic beverages with refills also for free. And they had decent, nice people as the FA’s and Pilots. I remember the Captain even came out of the cabin both times at landing to personally shake the hand of every single one of us while thanking us for choosing America West and for trusting him with our safety. Compared to today I FELT like a First Class passenger even in coach! Now I mostly fly Southwest, and yeah you don’t get all the fancy stuff and it is more cramped. But SW is getting a bit bad now in that thought they used to let a half-full flight be ok but now they generally try and bump folks to the next flight so they can really cram in a full load. I feel like a sardine in a can at those times, not a valued customer. But the FA’s on SW usually make up for it with real passion for their work and courtesy and humor (plus you still get a free carry-on and a free checked bag, unlike other low-cost airlines these days. *End of Rant* ;-)

  7. Im 6 foot 7 so obviously I hate coach. Id say Im able to get exit row seats for free about 50% of the time. I guilt trip the workers to give mem to seats. Also I should get those all the time not just for my benefit (my knees literally hit the seat in front of me) but for the unlucky person who has to sit next to me.
