Have you seen a chiropractor????
See a physical therapist who does neuromuscular massage and dry needling. A physical therapist can evaluate the source of your problem (posture, movement habits, etc.) and can give you exercises that are appropriate for you current (injured) condition. Exercises and stretches appropriate for your uninjured condition could perpetuate the inflammation. I also suggest that you check the physical therapist qualifications to see whether they also can do neuromuscular massage and dry needling. Both relieved longstanding pain for me (years) that had gotten so bad I didn’t want to continue living (wanted to curl in a ball and never move, not suicide). Things I thought were pinched nerves turned out to be habitually spasmed muscles that were ischemic and also postural habits that put pressure on nerves leaving spine.

Piriformis syndrome kind of masquerades as sciatica. I had it and stretching, stretching, stretching helps, believe me, and see a PT for specific exercises to help. I don’t know how the hell you ran with this injury.
The body has one voice, pain. If you’re hurting as bad as that, your body is screaming for attention and healing. Pay attention and avoid stressing the injury.
Anna – try Watsu for your glute pain! It’s related to Shiatsu, but in a weightless environment (water). I had a sciatica when I was preggo – nothing helped – but Watsu fixed it completely after 1 1/2 treatments (1/2 hr ea)!

Too many people today are googling their symptoms and thinking they can self diagnose. Before steroids people can try icing at regular intervals and see a real physiotherapist
Best of luck with that pain in the ace, sounds like a doozy! I would suggest trying a standing desk if that’s available, my rear ache was sorted by cutting down my commutes by working more from home, cutting some weight and when sitting in either car or desk I now use one of those fashionable donuts for the butt. My issue was more male anatomy related but with diligence it’s under control, looking forward to the update after the shot! Best butt health to you all.
Cenk, maybe you should argue with Steve Oh more. I hear those arguments get intense, might burn some significant calories? Just don’t get the cops called (again).
Ana, if you are successful (with steroids or something else, I unfortunately have no advice for that) in healing the pain, DO NOT START RUNNING UNTIL THE PAIN IS COMPLETELY GONE. I made that mistake waaaaaay back in HS. Tendonitis on the Achilles. I let it heal for a while but wanted to start racing again. Made it 300 yards in the next race, but then it felt like someone had cut the tendon with a knife. I wasn’t able to compete in districts as a result.
All that said, it sounds like Christian and you know what you’re doing. Just be careful and er on the side of caution.
Cenk, I’m a pickup truck drivin’ midwesterner and i have personally seen Yoga dramatically transform people both physically and mentally. its the perfect solution to your situation… you just need to get past the psychology that for exercise to be effective you need to grunt and groan. Yoga is the quiet stream that eventually cleaves the mountain in two. …thing is, it would split your mountain faster than you think. ;)
give it a shot… those that love you want you around as long as possible.

I highly recommend yoga, Cenk.
Ana is right. It helps with physical and mental well-being. I started over a year ago and it has made so much of a difference in my muscle tone and flexibility. Also, it is the perfect time to let the stress roll off.
I also agree with the commentor that recommended swimming. So much better for your joints and its’ a full body workout.

I vote someone (or multiple someones) challenges Cenk to do Yoga. And for every class he attends, he in turn get to issue a challenge of his choosing to one of the people/the group.
just an FYI Ana: ”steroid” injections for pain are either dexamethasone or prednisone. or a derivative of one of those. they are all cortisol-like and affect your metabolism negatively because ultimately they cause an increase in the release of sugars and a concomitant increase in insulin resistance. most effects are temporary–but they do, so just be ready for that. nothing an athletic person can’t fix though.

They have excellent, easy treatments for piriformis. The steroid shot won’t fix it (been there). This will.

Cenk, if you can’t get in enough exercise, the other solution is to eat less. I know, easier said than done! Energy in has to be less than energy out, simple as that.
Try swimming instead of running. Trust me, you don’t want the sciatic nerve being irritated all the time. Waiting on spinal surgery for extreme sciatica.
