The only person I feel bad for is George. I mean not totally because he should have said something but then I don’t know what I would do. But he was clearly crushed and broken by this. He knows his daughter killed his granddaughter (likely) and then he was blamed for it by saying he did what he did to his kid. That poor man…
Anyway good episode. I super stayed away from this while it was happening because I just hate cases like this and the court drama but glad I watched. I have no desire to dig deeper into it (as I sometimes do after watching) but good show
I dont know what piece of evidence really closes the case for me. I feel like it was done at the tape over the mouth.
Raising a kid is hard. I had my child when I was 20, and pretty much did it alone, getting away from an abusive spouse in the meanwhile. It was easier for me though. I may not have had much physical support, certainly not emotional, but I had financial help. My kid is beautiful, it doesnt take away how crazy your kid can make you feel at times. But I was never into parties or buying shit… I dunno… all that said – It’s no excuse. You cry about how frustrating being a parent alone is, and you get back up and love em to pieces because they’re worth the heartache and strain and loss of sleep.
But this was a mother who snapped, and taped over her kids mouth to make her stop crying. When she suffocated, she panicked. She tossed her in a bag, and hoped it would go away… I dont…. know that she meant to kill her…. but she hoped it would make her go quiet. Probably worked and she was able to get some temporary relief before realizing why it worked…
When she says she was just “doing what she was told”…really feels like shes talking about her lawyer…
Anywho, that’s how I figure it went down. It makes me angry…. so fucking upset…. ima go hug my baby now…
So glad to see this show is back, and what a good subject to start the new season!
Sounds like Cindy and Casey lie way too much for us to ever get the real story. Even if Casey told us what she claims really happened, you couldn’t believe it.
Cindy doesn’t sound like that great of a person to me. I thought she had kind of forced Casey into having Caylee. She probably knows Casey had something to do with it. I don’t think she’s that innocent or in denial. She knowingly lied over and over to protect Casey.
I could believe it was an “accident” in terms of reckless endangerment, not a true accident. If it were a true accident, Casey would not have covered it up. But it could easily have been too much xanax or a horrible punishment gone awry rather than straight up murder. Frankly, Casey doesn’t seem like she even has the wherewithal to plan and commit a murder. She’s more the fly by the seat of her pants kind of person. The cover up of her crime and the lies she told were not thought out but just to get her out of trouble in the moment by moment.
I’m so very happy this show is back!
Please please please do Israel Keyes. :)
I honestly worked hard to avoid this case in the media, and am glad that it was covered here. I think that if this case didn’t become such a national shit-show, we would have gotten the truth. Anything Nancy Grace gets ahold of turns me off so bad, because she is such a drama queen, and I guess that soap opera bullcrap that she pulls is what the country wants, but I think SHE is a huge reason that Casey Anthony was found innocent on all accounts. I think the Jury knew there was a huge spotlight on them, and that pressure made it harder to do their jobs.
I also wish that the prosecution did a better job, or went for a lesser sentence. So many in this country are appalled by the death penalty, threatening a young, cute girl with it is going to make the burden of proof that much harder, and bring that much more attention to the case.
Was Casey’s boyfriend ever looked at as a suspect? It seems like the media circus and trial focused so hard on Casey and her family that they were ignoring another possibility.
I’m wondering the same thing about the boyfriend. For some reason my gut is telling me that the dude was part of the death of poor Caylee.
I almost ended up on the jury for this case. Fortunately, I had an acceptable reason to defer jury duty.
Totally agree with chetzmom and phoenix09 goddammit. FLORIDA! That place is the THIRD STATE to secede from the Union. There is a stubborn, hardheadedness that keeps the ideas and practices of pre-Civil War America alive and cancels out all the extremely beautiful nature, delicious food and fun entertainment there.
The police and investigators didn’t check the maggots, let so much else go and got jury from an even more racist area of Florida who’d decided just on sight alone that Casey was innocent. So they let a defense attorney do a ‘Mr Smith Goes to Washington’ and the whole court lets her off everything like Lizzie Borden.
But they find a way to put Michelle Alexander in jail for 20 years for firing at the ceiling and let Trayvon Martin’s killer off like Casey.
We all as Americans have a high price to pay for this shit, not just the Anthonys. Allowing all this and more put Trump on us. Wolf-Pac & Justice Democrats people. We’re gonna have to do proper Reconstruction ourselves.
As I said above, I could have been on this jury. Accusing people you don’t know and have never met of racism undermines your credibility and makes YOU look like someone who stereotypes (at best).
Loved Meredith in this episode! Would love to see her again on mwf
I didn’t pay a lot of attention to this case, but my feeling at the time was that Casey had taped Caylee’s mouth to shut her up, or punish her, or something, and Caylee suffocated. Then Casey panicked. Yes, criminally bad parenting.
I still think that, but this was a super episode with all sorts of good info.
I actually sort of prescribe to the same thought, Donal – I wonder (then and still) if Caylee had been having a tantrum or the like, or even a toothache or some such, and was crying and being too loud, and Casey just got frustrated, tried duct tape over the mouth to stop it, and just botched the duct taping (cus uh, you can gag someone like that without them dying, if you’re careful) which lead to Caylee dying – and that sent Casey into a panic, as it would look absolutely terrible for her to reveal that.
This sort of thing is actually not all that uncommon, it shows up in *a lot* of the tragic postpartum depression incidents, particularly with mothers who were not ready to have a child; they get frustrated with the fit a child is having, try to silence them, and it results in the child’s death and the mother’s panic. Granted, not all of them get as insane as Casey and her family did, but it does unfortunately happen, which is why that seems way more plausible than what went on in the case, all around.
Glad the show is back. Love watching the show first thing in the AM – one of my favorite rituals. Murder With Friends & Coffee!
If only Meredith Placko could have been a witness at trial. I don’t watch these big trials, but someone in my house does when they occur. Given my admittedly limited, but succinct, knowledge of the evidence, I don’t understand how the jury didn’t think Casey left her daughter in the trunk while she was partying.
Rock on, Grace.
This episode hit me in gut.
I didn’t keep up with the trial or watch any news while this was going on, though I do remember hearing about. Casey Anthony is a disgusting human being. Even if there was not incriminating evidence against her, the fact that she didn’t report her child missing is insane.
These unsolved crimes are interesting, but frustrating. This child deserved so much better as do others that are victims to sick murders.
Great episode.
Love this show too!
As for Casey showing “real emotion” I beg to differ. I knew a sociopathic person very well. It is quite possible Casey was pretending to have that emotion because she knew her reaction to a description of her daughter’s death would be analyzed. She’s a selfish, lying, murderous bitch. You don’t put duct tape over the mouth of a baby who just drowned. The suggestion is absurd!
Having just made that last statement, I will add ….
THANX GOD THIS SHOW IS BACK!!!!
Too long, Grace … it’s been too long.
I worked at a vet for 10years. When you open the freezer that keeps animal remains, it is a VERY distinctive smell. This is a freezer, where very little decomposition happens.
But, once you have smelled THAT smell, you do not forget it.
It is unlike any other. If investigators & others said the car & trash smelled “like a dead body,” there WAS a dead & at least partially decomposing body in it at some point.
Sorry, but that party skank murdered her daughter, either deliberately or by negligence.
She can cry all day long & whine & claim she’s a victim.
Bitch did it.
She is blithe & carefree & says stupid, evil fucking shit like about Caylee like, “I think she’s a bad-ass, listening to classic rock!”
As a mother of 3 boys and a daughter, this case E N R A G E S M E.
I will also say that jurors who vote to acquit evil people like this are on their OWN POWER TRIP.
They LOOOOOOVE to say bull shit like, “Well, after thoroughly going over the evidence (that everyone else in the world is also seeing) , and after much careful deliberation (cuz I’m like a smart person), I had to be brave and vote to not even decide that she was guilty of manslaughter. God will judge her”
WRONG. If there is a god, and Casey has another kid, you better hope that your family never come across this diseased swamp of toxic DNA.
I go through six months of withdrawals from Murder With Friends and then suddenly get three new episodes within about 10 days. I’m so ecstatic! I missed this show so much!! Thanks for coming back, guys <3 <3 <3
God I love this fucking show!
