  3. There isn’t a single country in the world with a Single Payer HC insurance system.

    It is either totally run by the government (UK, Scandinavia) or a complex layered highly regulated insurance market (rest of Europe).

    Only Australia comes close to Single Payer.

    Finally this proves how far reaching and far damaging the executive branch can be. Medicare right now runs a deficit and will probably run a deficit even if it is extended to all US citizen, what is known as Medicare for all or Single Payer and exposes something many have pointed out to people advocating Single Payer.

    Without making Private HC insurance illegal, which would be unconstitutional, a republican president can fuck the Single Payer system in many ways from forcing it to run surpluses (higher overall premiums) to premium discrimination to gutting out what will and what won’t be covered.

    1. I’m from England, we pay tax and do not pay anything at the point of service. The government gets the tax from us and funds the NHS, the care is run by the NHS and there is not a profit motive for anything. I would happily pay more tax to ensure it is funded better, as it is one of the greatest things about this country. Its not perfect but I look at the US system and shake my head when I hear the misinformation and pure ignorance in some of the arguments against it. There is a private healthcare system also, I have one at work, but that is paid for personally and that allows you to see a doctor privately a lot quicker. The same doctors that work in the NHS also work in the private industry

      1. The UK has been subject to the predatory capitalists spreading from our dysfunctional and corrupt country, for many decades. That is why so much was ‘privatized’ there back in the 80’s – Thatcher got duped by Reagan, the puppet of the wealthy.
        What happened was that they all understood that privatization allowed the people running such systems to BILL THE GOVT ANY AMOUNT, knowing that there was actually UNLIMITED money. Totally opposite of what they lying, corrupt greedy bastards dupe us with, of course. They need a smokescreen in order to keep taking OUR COUNTRY’S MONEY to enrich themselves!!

Margaret Thatcher’s success is the reason Reagan won the republican primary against “Voodoo Economics” Bush and helped turn a 10 point poll lag in September in 1980 to a 10 point lead on election day. She inherited a disaster where people subject to 98% marginal income tax hid their money and when she cut it to a reasonable 70% rate (higher than any time under Blair/Gordon an higher even than what Corbyn wants) tax receipts increased dramatically before an economic crash due to double digit inflation in 1981.

          As for the privatization movement, it was a classic Tory position and in most cases was the right thing to do. Labour nationalized everything including car manufacturing and Soviet style management kept a 250k workforce in British Leyland when they needed a fraction and the results were catastrophic.

            Privatization is NOT a good thing, does NOT help the country (although they tell us LIES about how it will), and I know that Thatcher went along with the ‘trickle down’ crap that the rich convinced Reagan about. Talking about a bit of a wide range, but interestingly, I have so far encountered TWO POINTS where he comments about England back in the 70’s and 80’s, and how it was the FIRST to try the central bank nonsense based on Milton Friedman theory.

            These professors are FAR nicer than I am, and I am unsure if Dr Mitchell even knows about The Powell Memo of 1971, detailing COMPLETE CORPORATE TAKEOVER of our country. It has been done. And the greedy, arrogant, entitled Lewis Powel was appointed to the Supreme Court. He and his cohorts obviously LOVED his plan to use propaganda (done carefully, of course!!) to promote unregulated predatory capitalism as THE BEST for everyone.

I think he says something like “leading 1st-world countries” (or words to that effect); obviously, not every country operates pure or hybrid Single-Payer systems, but many do: Australia, UK, France, Spain, Canada, and other European countries have some variation on the theme to ensure a safety net for basic coverage… Even the US has limited Single-Payer – i.e. Medicare – it’s just not universal coverage.

          This probably falls into that category of wanting to push the US to strive for the best and not be one of the worst…

      2. These systems are NOT financed by taxes. Wikipedia is written by people who have been duped for decades about our monetary system. I would have said the same thing a year ago, but I have learned a LOT, and now realize how our corrupt congress LIES BLATANTLY to dupe us, while issuing all the billions extra that they want when it comes to enriching themselves and their owners/donors.
        Our federal govt is free to issue money with almost NO CONSTRAINTS, and has been since 1971. The pathologically greedy knew this, which is why they want EVERYTHING privatized – such systems allow the people running them to BILL THE FEDERAL GOVT ANY AMOUNT. Of course, they lie to us ‘little people’ about how it is more ‘efficient’, how privatizing will ‘save money’, and so on. They are MONEY ADDICTS who lie, cheat, steal and kill for their money fix. And they do NOT want us to understand how it ACTUALLY is.
        The massive exec salaries, BILLIONS in profits, for privatized systems are paid for with OUR COUNTRY’S MONEY, which is SUPPOSED to be used for the good of ALL. Our constant and multiple wars, which are justified with corporate media propaganda, are simply to ensure CONSTANT PROFITS to the war profiteers.
        Defense, federal prisons, healthcare insurance, and Medicare Part D are privatized that I know of. Now they want education and infrastructure. And Cato Institute is funding ‘studies’ that show how GOOD privatization is, and why it should be done. Oh yes. They have a LONG LIST so they can take OUR MONEY for themselves.

                    Look up the professors of economics – you will see that their explanations make PERFECT SENSE, far more than the lies we have been told while we SEE the money issued for what the oligarchs and profiteers want, but ‘none for us’.

                    As for the other things – they ARE related, but to help you keep it simple, just find out about monetarily sovereign systems, such as the US, Canada, the UK, New Zealand, and so on.

                That is why BILLIONS can be found for more defense spending, hurricane relief, money to Israel, upgrading nuclear weapons (that was Obama, a trillion dollars over 10 years!!) and so on, with NO talk about raising taxes, ‘cant’ afford’, and so on. Privatized defense industry has many people in it, disaster relief is a must, Israel is more weapons help PLUS their hospitals help our undercover forces destabilizing countries (like Syria).     3. If you learn about our monetary system, you will see that deficits DO NOT MATTER much at all. The lying bastards have intentionally DUPED US FOR DECADES, while THEY take our country’s money, mostly via privatization, which allows them to BILL THE FEDERAL GOVT ANY AMOUNT. No, they don’t want us to know that this is what they are doing.
      They also lie about the DEBT (it is actually our ‘national savings account’), about ‘can’t afford’, about a finite budget (the federal govt is free to issue dollars with almost NO CONSTRAINT from 1971, when we went off the gold standard), and about having to ‘make cuts to some programs’. When more of us understand their MASSIVE corruption and lies (worse than most of us already realize), most in Congress will be RUN OUT OF OFFICE. Congress is who makes the decision about federal money being issued – they COULD spend money on things that are good FOR ALL (as per the Constitution), but they are almost all pathologically greedy money addicts and sociopaths.
