  1. 1:04:35 I, also, wanted a personal chef. I couldn’t afford one, so I have learned to make the foods myself. I am working on perfecting my favourite Thai food, and Japanese sauces, right now. I can make things that taste good, but they don’t taste the way I want, yet. :)

P.S. I vehemently dislike that posting a comment refreshes my page, without warning. I also vehemently dislike the log out button placed where it is, next to the comment section. I hit it by accident far too often.

  2. Funny CENK’S DAD spent SO LONG making his meals on a powerless farm, but he seems like he’s very impatient to wait for a seat & order a big meal at a nice restaurant… lol

  3. Dunno, somehow I like The Weatherman for Mark. LOVE his voice and love what he says even more. That’s one Weatherman who can give me a five-day forecast anytime LOL!

WHOA Steve was HOT up in the house tonight. Lit both Cenk’s AND Mark’s asses up good. Nice work Fire Marshall Oh. Can I see The Doreman’s derriere get well done with ketchup next?

  4. But, Cenk and Mark, the Democratic Elite ARE laughable, BECAUSE they are so well-educated, and they think that means they are better than everyone else. It’s this mindset that keeps them all in their little bubble of misunderstanding, which prevents them from noticing the shifts in political thinking throughout the country – they’re so out of touch because the only people they associate with on a social level are other ivy-league rich kids who will never understand what it’s like to want for anything legitimate. Great discussion today – love the panel.

  5. Why Mexican-american voted for Trump or Republicans?. Don’t forget that on social issues, Mex-Amer. Align almost 100% with conservatives. Hyper-religious, homophobic (the macho culture), and a patriarchal family structure. So let’s not be surprised that there are A LOT of Mexican-American that vote Republican.
    Disclosure : I am Mexican-American, but I am not conservative. Just saying…

  6. I’m going to assume that Steve is speaking on mediocre American Japanese Curry Houses, because if he’s been to the Real Coco Ichi in Japan, specifically Nago City in Okinawa, the statement on Curry would be reassessed. I’m Trini and it’s disrespectful to the Family to admit this, but there’s no Curry like Japanese Curry.

      1. That’s funny “real”? The Japanese got “curry” from the British who “combined spices” from India. Curry powder was a British invention. In my experience the Eastern Asian versions of “curry”pales in comparison to Southern Asian countries. I stayed for months each in Japan, Korea, Thailand, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. I ate a lot of domestically prepared food since I lived or worked with local people. I live in San Francisco there are dozens of eastern- Asian restaurants within a mile of my house that serve “curry” type dishes equal to stuff I found in average places in Japan. Now, there are only one or two places that serve really great “curry” dishes and that matches my experience in Japan

      2. Japanese curry has its place. Leave out all the greasy spoons with cheap filler food. When a family makes some for you, or a nice little restaurant serves you, it’s really good. It tends to be mild but has a good combination of beef or pork, potatoes, carrots and onions. It very much goes with Japanese glutenous rice and sides of pickles and pickled ‘rakkyo’ crispy onions. When it’s done right it really IS good, and quite unique. I like to call it Japanese curry. I never go to cheap curry places or even ‘Coco Curry’ chains for the good stuff.

One place I highly recommend is Matsumoto-Ro in beautiful Hibiya Park. That’s an old restaurant dating back at least 80 years. I first heard of them about 15 years ago when Japanese TV talked about the then fiancee of the Japanese crown prince loving the ‘hayashi rice’ dish there. The name comes from an old mispronunciation / shortening of hashed beef and rice. Yes, that is one boss dish, mild yet rich with various lovely flavors. The rice curry there is slamming too. The prices ain’t cheap but that food is tops, and there’s dining in the old building or outside amongst the lovely old trees and flowers of the season.

The nuclear accident in Fukushima ruined all my fun adventures at restaurants here in Japan, the Japanese government has lied so damn much about food / water safety in the wake of the continuing unabated crisis I have resorted to cooking much more than before the blowout. Those reactors are STILL leaking and crews are filling thousands of plain plastic trash bags with radioactive soil and placing them throughout an ever expanding area around those reactors. Some radioactive water spills out into the ocean. Many restaurants refuse to say where their fish, meats or veggies / fruit comes from, and I continue to use BBC reports on areas unaffected by the signature radiation. Costco over here and a couple of other markets that are reliable are my shopping sources. I eat out only once or twice a week at most. I have my water delivered once a month from safe areas in western Japan. For me, that is the way it’s got to be until I leave Japan.

  7. While it is true that Trump got more votes from muslim Americans than Obama (largely due to Syria) Trump actually got 3% less Latino votes than Romney (who got 29-31% based on which exist poll you use) not 33%.

The other group where Trump increased his share more than Romney were African-Americans. He got 1% more than Romney.

  8. I think I finally understand why it may not be acceptable to talk about women’s clothing. I, unlike, Cenk thought she was dressing down (save for a few very expensive jackets she wore later in the cycle). I though her attire/look was calculated because it reverted back to her ’08 look rather than how she appeared as Secretary of State (longer hair, no pastel matching pant suits etc).
I think trying to look like she was an average grandma would have come across even more phony. Everyone knows she’s rich, I thought /think she should have dressed the part.

Anyway, this has been an important lesson for. While I don’t think I judged her based on what she wore (I hope not). What she wore added to that air of phoniness I thought she had. But considering that someone thought exact opposite of what I did looking at the same thing, I’ll have to bear this in mind in the future

    Great show as always

      1. Renemies 78, I hear you and agree about her $10k suits, BUT no one asked how much Trump’s suits costs. Probably his are handmade and so are his dress shirts. His ties could be very expensive. When one adds the cost of his attire, it could be $10k.

        1. Trump actually went around boasting about how “cheap” his suits were because they were Trump suits. So no one really brought it up but I hear your point. I think people pointed that out about Hillary because she was pretending to be “one of the people” when Bernie would show up in a wrinkled suit jacket, messy hair, and sometimes busted up shoes. You could see who really was one of the people.

  9. I get a zit in one spot on my neck almost every week before I start my period. I might get a month or two break from it but typically it shows up every month. It always hurts and always takes forever to come to a head so that I can take care of it. I hate it… It’s also super embarrassing. When I was a teen my mom promised me that zits were just a phase… liar…

  10. The reason why Brazil has so much food from other places is because of… immigration! There are tons of Lebanese and Syrian descendants in Brazil. And they’re so integrated into the culture that it’s weird to refer to them as ‘they’. They’re ‘we’, now. Brazil has the largest Arab population outside of the Middle-east (close to 10 million according to official records).
Heck, our president now is Lebanese descendant. And he’s corrupt and shrewd, like a true Brazilian politician.

    1. If you know anything about Lebanon you will know that the apple does not fall far from the tree. Lebanon is the most corrupt of all Arab countries.

  11. Ty ty I love his voice he’s one of those people that you know you could listen to read one of your favorite novels it just has that Rich tone very reminiscent of a really great film noir book

  12. NOW THIS IS OLD SCHOOL!
Perfect combo. If ben where there , this would be the PERFECT cherry on top cast – lasting 2 hours to get the full thing.

    – food, check,
    – personal youth stories, check
    – hint of political, check
    – steve oh talking shot to Cenk, check
    – marky Poo’s classic voice , check

ITS GOT EVERYTHING we pay for in old school.
    Love it!
    Thanks guys :)

  13. My girlfriend’s visa expired a while back, so she had to go back to Brazil. I’m going to visit her next month, which I’m extremely excited about.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t almost as excited to have access to lots of cheap Brazilian food.

  14. Good talk. Tommy Gun was one nickname for the Thompson submachine gun. It was also called The Thompson, which might be a decent nickname.

  15. If Clinton had been more Grandma and selected Bernie for VP it would have been a Dem landslide. Grand Ma and Pa goes to Washington!

  16. Young scientist is dead on. Watch ‘cooked’ on Netflix. FDA was pressured into changing the definition of ‘bread’ itself to allow manufacturers to sell the crap insider markets.!!!
Here’s the problem Cenk. If youbrand for office, you’d get elected. If you managed a candidates campaign, they’d get elected. Am I correct? You’re goddam right I am!!!
    Great great show. Thanks guys.

  17. I like Mark too. I don’t even miss Ben any more when Mark’s on Old School. Although I still miss Ben.

Mark Tom Tom (like the drums), if you want a cutesy name like Pootey-poot.

I had to look up the pronunciation of moussaka after I heard Mark say it. It’s probably still a valid pronunciation but different from what I thought.

  18. Cenk’s insight about Mark says so much about what likeability is about. Mark (at least according to what Cenk says) actually LISTENS to what people say, and then responds in kind. He’s not too stuck in his own bubble like other people…who hear things others tell them, but then such things just go in one ear and out the other, or they fail to register entirely. So of course, when people feel heard and listened to, they feel valued. And people like people who do that. Why Mark is like that is probably a combination of innate ability and him respecting and valuing people enough to hear them out. I can’t say I know anything about Mark aside from what I’ve seen on the main show and Old School. But I really believe this world would be a so much kinder and more humane and sane place to live in if people were more like that. I sure hope other people in my life can say the same thing about me that Cenk says about Mark.

    1. Some people listen and some people wait to talk.

And Cenk is right about people who are able to engage in an actual conversation. You have to listen and then add something of your own that relates to the topic. It’s amazing to me how many people are incapable of that.

  19. Quick request for TYT: Can you please stop using Latino and Mexican interchangeably? I’m Colombian, for example, so I am 100% Latino and ZERO percent Mexican. Saying them interchangeably isn’t racist IMO but it is stereotypical. It’s like calling Asians Chinese or Americans Texans. It makes not sense.

    1. I don’t think they did that. Steve called a Mexican guy Latino, which is accurate. Then he further described the Latino gentlemen he was speaking of as Mexican. They were talking about Mexicans but also calling them Latinos. Like if you talked about Texans and then referred to them as Americans part of the time. Totally accurate, just less specific.

      1. Maybe in this specific instance he may have been referring to a guy who is Mexican and also Latino. But even in the video they say the “Latino or Mexican” community and then keep on talking like they are the same. I’ve also watched the show for years and seen them use them interchangeably. Look, I don’t think it’s coming from a bad place I just wish they would say Mexican when they are specifically talking about people coming from the nation-state of Mexico and just say Latino otherwise.

  20. I can’t resist asking any longer – why are so many Americans attached to wearing caps inside? It is distracting on camera when you cannot see Mark’s eyes.

  21. Anyone else notice that the upper half of Mark’s face was in full shadow? Very mysterious. What’s he hiding–zits?

  22. Cenk, your assessment on why people like Mark so much is the EXACT reason I love him so much. <3

  23. It’s believed the Egyptians created bread, and it was an accident. Watch Cooked on Netflix, it’s a great series and Michael Pollan does an excellent job explaining the origins of bread.

Also, dessert is life. One should always eat dessert before dinner because what if you die between dinner and dessert and you never get that last sweet bite?!

  24. Steve-Oh, those are thigh zits are ingrown hairs. In the center of that zit is a hair that has embedded into the pore and needs to be dug out. Get your wife a sharp needle, tweezers, and a magnifying mirror and tell her to go to town. Also tell her it’s so satisfying to watch the man squirm until, EUREKA! there’s the hair. And then he loves you for saving his thigh’s life.

Also, Cenk, I have a great solution for fixing zits quick before you go on air. First, you need to lance it the moment it has a whitehead – that is get a sharp, sterile needle and create a hole just in the skin that is white. Then squeeze to drain. Now for the fun part, which is the quick fix. Get an aspirin tablet and some hydrogen peroxide. Crush up the aspirin and mix it into the peroxide to create a paste. Put the paste on the popped zit and let it sit for like 5-10 minutes. When you wash it off you will be amazed and how much the swelling and redness has gone away. Camera ready, baby. You’re welcome!
