  1. Cenk and everyone else,

To you saying that he isn’t mentally unstable enough to be removed from office, I pose you these questions:

Does being a sociopath disqualify you from being able to run our country effectively?

Does being a pathological liar disqualify you from being able to run our country effectively?

Does being a egomanical narcissist disqualify you from being able to run our country effectively?

  2. Cenk–

Solid hustle on the Overtime. A nice way to end it for radio crew, and a way to keep online viewers engaged (mainly youtube, as I will watch here anyway), and not feeling like they are getting rushed because of radio.

Your hustle has improved over the years; now we just need to work on Jimmy’s.

    Love from Canada

  3. Wynsong thanks for giving me the short version of the amendment, I wasn’t aware of it. Do you know its history, why and when it was passed, and whether some legal precedent dictated its passage?

You guys are so informative, I always get an answer when I ask something about Am politics. Thank you!

  4. That Buffoon in the white house is borderline insane, can start a nuclear war in a tantrum, OF COURSE we should remove him by any means necessary Jenk!

  5. Please get someone to automate this workflow so that videos can be posted more quickly.

I would gladly do it for free. It would probably take me only an hour or two at most, but even if there are unforeseen difficulties involved, I wouldn’t mind spending a weekend on it.

I donated to your journalism drive, but I’m afraid the money I gave is a drop in the bucket compared to the revenue lost by this slow, frustrating process.

  6. I was wondering if my frustration was unjustified. Perhaps I was being unreasonable. It’s good to see I’m not the only one. Wtf.

  7. Thats TYT , The Hell with paying members. All about the views. Thats why most people wont pay anymore i know.

  8. I agree. You should always take care of the people that take care of you.
I took classes on editing video, if you need help, I’m here.

  9. So free you tube content gets posted before member content? It would be one thing if there was a tech issue but if its getting edited and thrown up on youtube first then I can only say: Shame, Shame, Shame

    1. Once again, have to say – you’d think that after raising $20mm, that they could afford to pay someone to push the big red button.

  10. I’ve had an attempted attack on me because people thought I was a white supremacist and I’ve been asked if I was a few times. I hope Cenk doesn’t bill this as a new phenomenon as these things have happened over decades

  11. Totally fair. I actually never thought of it that way so thank you for giving me something to ponder Progressive :) I don’t remember mention of a legitimate Baratheon boy in the books but just because I don’t remember doesn’t mean it’s not there… those books are DENSE.

And I haven’t seen the new Promised Prince theory you mention but I dig it. A whole Azor Ahai, Prince who was Promised, and the Stallion who mounts the world in one person

  12. The guy on Alex Jones reminds me of a young Dan Aykroyd I think Jones took too many of those drops he sells LOL too much vitality for an old guy running.

  13. OMG I thought the pictures of Trump and everything I was seeing was pasted images and was a joke LOL! Man talk about a man child he doesn’t even have as much sense as his kid.

Now I think the reason the rest of his family is down there is because they all know he has some serious dementia issues.

It wouldn’t of been so bad if they were all actually doing something to really pull for all the average people of this country, but everything they’re involved in seems to be just the opposite and instead everyone was had, while they work catering to more rich establishment corruption.

I know I clown around way too much and make way too many jokes because I want people to be able to laugh. But I do love everyone I work every day on the plan that I devised for America to fix it for everyone and give everybody ALL their rights back.

I am just a guy like all of you but because my life story I practice law against crooked politicians for 38 years and voluntary work for the government for free while I investigated them and was one of the first bloggers on the Internet. I had started a newspaper initially. I could use some helpers. I definitely need people to tell people about me on social media and could use help with that It’s OK if you love Bernie. I love Bernie too.

I want to move the country forward with progress. And I got one hell of a plan, everyone will end up with a brand new nonpolluting car and possibly free or very low cost electricity. The high-paying jobs, prosperity, new technology leadership of the world boom for America would be gargantuan in the planet would get seriously cleaned up.

  14. 25th Amendment

When I realized that Trump was going to be a viable candidate in April 2016, I spent three weeks immersed in the study of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. From my lay viewpoint, he certainly seems to be the poster child for this mental ailment. I also looked at what happens at the end stages of this madness. An analysis of the Violent Final phase using Jim Jones as the case study is well articulated in:

Jim Jones and Narcissistic Personality Disorder (Part IV): The Violent Stage of NPD
    by Dr. Gary Maynard
    http://jonestown.sdsu.edu/?page_id=40230

We’re not yet at the point where the 25th Amendment would kick in, but all indications are that Trump’s madness is heading in that direction. The problem is whether he will do something truly catastrophic before the 25th Amendment is or can be invoked.

I sure hope he resigns and I wish someone would give him in his delusional state a reason that fits the logic of his imaginary world that he is a hero and winner to resign.

    1. Is mental disorder grounds in the 25th, or just physical illness? Isn’t Alzheimer’s a mental illness?

      1. write2katia, The 25th amendment is for any incapacity, mental or physical, where the President is not capable of doing his job. However, it is probably hard to prove mental incapacity and the Vice President and Cabinet would be reluctant to invoke the 25th amendment unless it is extreme.

  15. Small suggestion – can you guys please include the ‘description box links’ in the video description here? I never watch on YouTube, and it would be nice to have access to those links on this site as well. I recognize gathering those links first could delay uploads, which no one wants, but perhaps they could be added in after the initial upload?

    Thanks! <3

  16. Irrelevant people should be ignored:

Why are you wasting our time with Christie, Alex Jones and even Bannon? The best thing the news media could do is ignore them. Bannon will recede quickly. The thing to be reporting on is the money behind these horrible examples of angry egotistical human beings. You have great perspective on politics and policy, but I think the media doesn’t do well covering the media itself and should stay away from trying to cover itself expect when it is endangering the First Amendment.

  17. Total Eclipse. One of the wonderful things about the eclipse yesterday was that it was exciting, it was fun, it brought everyone together, and it put our small concerns and small planet into a much larger perspective. I wanted you to show us its beauty and wonder. Give us a break from the child DT for that one moment. We NEED a vacation. Don’t make it a working one!

  18. Re: Trump’s mental fitness. My dad has a type of frontal lobe dementia and he behaves a lot like trump. In the early stages it’s hard to tell because with this type of dementia he retained a lot of mental functioning until it was very progressed. This is a very different type compared to my mom’s vascular dementia which progressed the way most people think dementia progresses.

Look at Trump’s ability to speak and use words in old clips from years ago. There is a difference,. Scans may not pick it up if there are, say, Lewy Bodies involved. But these ongoing changes in his brain will make the worst of him even worse. I have to imagine all this stress would accelerate any degeneration

  19. It would be tempting to remove Trump for mental incompetence, but I think that would be very damaging to the country. At least a quarter of the people would view it as a conspiracy to stop them getting what they want.

Also, it doesn’t hold him accountable for the damage he’s done and is doing. If he has to go, impeach him and let him resign or be removed by the Senate.

Hard as it is, his presence is strengthening the left, and that will have long-term benefits. The fear is that he’ll do something irreparable, but we bought off on that when “we” elected him President.

It’s best for us to concentrate on developing progressive policy and promoting it. Tie the Republicans to Trump. Everything he’s done is just regular Republican policy. Trump gives us the opportunity to show how absurd Republican policy is and make our case for progressive policy.

Trump’s craziness is a distraction intended to hold your attention while the Republicans rob you blind. We need to change our focus from him to the damage he’s causing, and we need to use that to highlight how much better our policy is than theirs.

  20. How is it possible that Shaun King’s medium post was not the LEAD STORY? In fact, it wasn’t even mentioned. I don’t get it. Members donated significantly to support investigative journalism, but we barely hear/see mention of the work these folks are doing on the main show. I would really love for the important stories these folks are covering to be highlighted more. The folks you hired are doing some fantastic work. PLEASE DISCUSS THEIR STORIES on the main show more often…and thank you :)

  21. I don’t know why so many people in the US can’t read (to be fair, not only in the US).
    https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety

Since I experienced a total solar eclipse in Germany 1999, I heard misinformation over and over and over again repeated every time a total solar eclipse was on the horizon anywhere in the world.

The protection goggles are NOT MEANT to be used during the total phase of the eclipse. In fact, you can’t even see the corona with those glasses on. But you don’t wanna miss the corona, do you? The glasses are meant for any other period before and after the totality (if people wanna check how much of the sun is already gone ). The danger often comes if people look (unprotected) at the corona the moment the first sunlight re-emerges hitting the then also widened pupils.

Over and over again (including the main show and Think Tank) I heard the round light of the corona around the moon would be the problem and the round appearance in and of itself would be dangerous – that’s flat out wrong. Even a 1-5% sunlight is almost indistinguishable (in brightness) from 100%. The only time you see any form of light (let alone a circle) looking directly unprotected into the sun is during totality. And the NASA link above clearly states 2 things:
    1) A total solar eclipse is about as bright as the full moon – and just as safe to look at.
    2) Looking directly at the sun is unsafe EXCEPT during the brief total phase of a solar eclipse (“totality”), when the moon entirely blocks the sun’s bright face

One thing is for sure, if you’ve ever seen a total solar eclipse you’ll know, it’s not only beautiful, it’s almost magical. I saw one in 1999 and will never forget it, it may have changed/influenced my life. My recommendation is: The moment the last beam of light disappears take your glasses of and look at the corona (the end of totality is the dangerous moment, so take your time looking at the corona first), it’s beautiful. THEN look around you, look at nature, look at the people around you. It’s hard to describe / you maybe think I’m crazy, but it’s like a) the whole world is moving/spinning around and you can see it, b) the light is a light you’ve never seen and all the colors look different, c) nature-ourselves-the people around us-me-ourselves-nature it all seems to hold it’s breath and everything is connected in that moment, it’s all the same, everyone is part of the greater unity, 1 and a million a drop in the sea. The whole situation is magical … for a min or 2 … and after the first light re-emerges, it all ends, all routines are kicking back in, 5min later it’s all over, but we remember, everyone who’s seen it remembers and the urge to see and feel it again is never quite gone completely…

Magic – everyone who thought he/she/they had to wear glasses during totality missed it – sad.

I hope everyone who had the chance to see it (if you’d been in the zone [no excuse] or had to theoretically just drive a couple miles to north to Oregon or whatever[almost no excuse]) yesterday used it, otherwise you’ll regret it your whole life, believe me…

    1. It’s amazing how often people who do these long rants prove themselves wrong…..

you reference an article stating these two things:
“1) A total solar eclipse is about as bright as the full moon – and just as safe to look at.
      2) Looking directly at the sun is unsafe EXCEPT during the brief total phase of a solar eclipse (“totality”), when the moon entirely blocks the sun’s bright face”

Problem is, from where Trump was, at the white house, the eclipse never reached totality. DC was not in the path of totality.

Therefore, anyone looking at the sun at any point without glasses in DC (like trump) was being unsafe based on your own stated facts…..

    2. I watched this eclipse from a rock on the Black Sea..With the special glasses (not regular sunglasses). It was magical. The seagulls started flying really low during totality, which was fascinating.

  22. To the GoT theories in this thread…

Yes amacleod979 is correct. The prophecy doesn’t state it will be her youngest child. It calls her killer “valonqar” which is a high Valerian word meaning “little brother” she has always believed this to be Tyrion for (in my opinion) a few reasons.
    1. He is her brother, younger than her, and literally “little”
    2. She always saw him as a murderer already because he “murdered” their mother in childbirth
    3. She always saw Jamie, her twin as an equal they are a cohesive unit

BUT Jamie is technically her little brother too.. she was born first and it is said so in the books pretty specifically that she was born first and Jamie second with him holding onto her foot

The only way your theory pans out in my mind sistolediastole is if (and that’s a big if) she is actually pregnant and not manipulating Jamie for loyalty he could kill her in that the child he put in her kills her in child birth.

I don’t really put much stock in her actually being pregnant though because of the same prophecy. Maggie the frog told her she would have 3 children, “gold their crowns and gold their shrouds” implying there would only be three, all three would be elevated highly (king for Joffrey and Tommen, betrothed the Dornish royalty for Myrcella) and all three would die before her.

    1. I don’t get the “3” children thing, or how people still consider that a legitimate obstacle to any alternatives. Maybe GoT spoiler alerts ahead…? – I mean, if a person is really far behind, probably.

I don’t recall if it was in the books (maybe not), but Cersei talks to Catelyn (in the show, at least – S1E2) about a FOURTH (technically first) child, who died. Cersei says he died of a fever – so he DID live for at least a time (not a miscarriage or even still birth). That scene shown here, starting about 1:34: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iN6HGoeKWrA

So Cersei has already HAD 4 babies by now, possibly derailing that part of the prophecy{1}. This is assuming she wasn’t just lying, of course… but, in a S1E5 scene with Robert, she does mention the baby AGAIN, to Robert himself – and he, of all people, would know whether she actually had another kid while married to him. Furthermore, in the Catelyn/Cersei/first-child-discussion scene I linked to above, Cersei says of the baby’s death and removal, “Robert was crazed, beat his hands bloody on the wall, all the things men do to show you how much they care. … They came to take his body away, and Robert held me; I screamed and I battled, but he held me.” — so this part confirms Robert was physically present after the birth, before the baby was taken away. So I’d say that scene with Robert, who was witness to the baby’s existence, confirms Cersei wasn’t lying to Catelyn earlier; therefore, there WAS a fourth baby, he WAS alive at least temporarily after birth, and Robert DID know first-hand about the baby’s existence.

The only thing I’ve seen people say about that 4th-child thing vs the prophecy, trying to explain away this discrepancy, is basically “she doesn’t consider the first one her child, because he was from Robert.” But I’m not buying that: if she gave birth to the boy, he’s her child, whether she likes it or not. I don’t really see a prophecy muddling its message THAT kind of way (with silly technicalities based purely on opinion and emotion, rather than just the usual cryptic language about *events*).

Moreover, in that same scene I mentioned above, with Cersei and Robert talking (S1E5), the exact exchange relating to the lost baby was:
Cersei, “I felt something for you once, you know,”
      Robert, “I know.”
Cersei, “even after we lost our first boy. For quite a while, actually.”
Shown here, beginning about 1:50: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O8ES_ElI6Wg

So, that exchange derails the theory that she didn’t want to count the child as “hers” simply because he was also Robert’s: Cersei had feelings for Robert early on, until “quite a while” after they lost their first son. She’d have had no reason to reject the baby at the time, and it’d be silly to think she *retroactively* rejected the boy when she *eventually* began hating Robert (especially considering how much feeling/sadness she appears to have when speaking of the child, to Catelyn and later to Robert).

Thus it seems clear that Cersei wasn’t just lying when she spoke of her “first” child. There WERE four offspring to date already, regardless of this new pregnancy she’s claiming. And the first child isn’t discounted on a silly technicality about hating Robert – if not because that’d be a REALLY lame “out” to answer that discrepancy, then at least because she didn’t hate Robert until long after their child was born and lost.

Anyway, it’s a curious kink in the whole prophecy thing. I don’t know if the prophecy could have been wrong just in part (marrying the king, mostly separate children, and all her children dying… each of those came true… but how many children she’d have was wrong). Or, alternately, maybe the show writers made a big mistake, forgetting the prophecy while trying to humanize Cersei in that Catelyn scene and doubling down in the Robert one :-)

Since we know it WAS true, and assuming it was NOT a mistake by the writers: Maybe this prophecy is MEANT to appear to be partly right and partly wrong, in obvious ways, to set us up for the possibilities of other prophecies turning out to be part right/part wrong (e.g. the “Prince” who was promised possibly being TWO people TOGETHER……. Or, no, I JUST GOT IT! – maybe the offspring of those two people: Dany [presumed, but maybe not, barren{2}], who gained support in other parts of the world that were never part of Westerosi rule until now [or “maybe soon,” anyway], and Jon, who has the support of the North AND the wildlings [also unheard of until now], having a child together who then has succession rights to most of the known world, and thus the child is the “Prince” who was promised. Boom. Solved. Okay, okay, I’m probably not the first to think of this exact possibility [kinda curious, now, about how many people have thought of it, because it’s almost “obvious” to me in hindsight… I know many fans have speculated about whether Dany will get pregnant again, by Jon even, but I haven’t seen anyone make this particular leap yet about their kid being the promised one… so maybe I’ll go look around and see if anyone else is talking of it yet, lol]).

Given that the story Cersei told Catelyn early on was NOT just a lie, thus giving Cersei 4 children so far ultimately, then it is certainly possible that she is actually pregnant again now (because we’re already past the “3” from the prophecy, regardless)… Qyburn seemed to be referencing the pregnancy (probably having a way to confirm one, since he was a Maester), when he suggests he can give Cersei something for it (maybe to end it?). Besides which, until the pregnancy results in a live birth, Cersei technically still wouldn’t have any additional children yet… she could miscarry, or die herself, or be struck or stabbed in the belly so that the fetus dies while she lives… any of which would, in essence, mean that she still only had the original 4 children. So it seems like this pregnancy thing isn’t necessarily a fake.

{1} The ONE possibility, which is common to GoT prophecies (and prophesies in fantasy stories in general, it seems), is a play on words and meanings – in this case, the specific connotation of the word “children”: Maggie tells young Cersei that “the King will have 20 children, and you will have 3.” — IF this prophecy is being literal to the terms for phases of human development, maybe the prophecy is only counting the offspring which live beyond infancy, into actual “childhood”……… BUT… this also seems highly unlikely, because I think (though could be remembering wrong) that the number of Robert’s bastards was basically confirmed, yet some of them were infants when the Gold Cloaks ran around murdering them on behalf of Joffrey and Cersei after Robert’s death. So, this “play on words” aspect seems to also be an inaccurate way to legitimize the numbers of offspring mentioned in the prophecy.

{2} As to the “barren” thing, the cursed words from the witch were more directed at Dany never having Khal Drogo back; the witch lists a handful of SEEMINGLY impossible things that’d have to happen before Drogo returns to her, one of which was her womb quickening… So the witch didn’t make the quickening itself contingent on any impossible things, thus making it entirely possible Dany will be capable of conception, to her surprise, once she’s with the “right” (Jon?) guy (strong seed? Lol).

  23. A “piss up” is used in Australia as slang for a drinking party. Hence, the expressions “He couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery” or “He couldn’t organise a piss up in country pub” are used to describe somebody who is utterly unable to manage other people for the simplest of activities.

  24. That isn’t quite right, the prophecy states that she will be killed by her Brother, not her youngest child

  25. 1. Dany CAN’T have children
    2. About die during labor: My theory is CERSEI is the one who will die in labor. The prophecy said Cersei will be killed by the youngest child. Maybe she always thought she would be killed by Tyrian, but maybe will be killed by HER youngest child (at birth).

  26. Trump clearly has NPD, and that affects decision-making and the ability to understand the needs of others. Of course, he is mentally incapable of serving as the president.

And while he may be below the bell curve in intelligence, the majority of his poor decision-making is a result of his brain constantly changing his beliefs/understandings about his surroundings in order to preserve his ego. That’s just something NPD people do.

It’s not an issue of incompetence, it’s an issue of being incapable of making rational decisions. He clearly has this. Pull the trigger.

  27. Wasn’t Session around for the last nationwide solar eclipse? Atleast his views on race politics and justice were lmao.

  28. my guess is this is here because they’re working on it and tgeir work flow is something like: copy last post, edit subject, edit description, link new video, publish.. So far this time they have step #5. They should hire me or someone to automate this, it’s kinda silly.
