  1. watching that video of what happened to that woman made me litteraly sick to my stomach. everything that happened to her, from the violation, to charging her even when they didn’t find anything… i’m glad i ate dinner before watching this, because i don’t think my Appetite is coming back any time soon.

  2. In California, that vaginal penetration would be classified as “rape by foreign object.” I worked at a Rape Crisis center for a year. It carries the same penalty as any other rape, including sodomy/oral rape.

Why did the Facebook employees have their group on Facebook when there are plenty of anonymous boards they could have used? They’re idiots.

  3. Lol, you can totally tell when GoT is airing because the stories are about the actors and THE METAPHORS. All the GoT metaphors…

  4. GREAT! So, this administration is doing things not as splashy, but having a huge impact on Americans, and they are more important than everyone spending all their time on Trump tweets and similar nonsense.

So, now, what will you do? Cover the more substantial stories, or, immediately after this important realization, continue to focus on the nonsense tweets?

  5. You finger vaginas for 11 minutes when you’re getting off on it and doing with intent of sexual gratification. When the person being fingered never consented to being fingered, that’s called rape. That’s illegal.

  6. Yo guys, no need to oversell the possible negative points of shelters, hey? Maybe I’m not in a position to talk since only one of my kids came from a shelter and for all the others I skipped the middle-man and picked up my darlings from off the streets directly. But considering the loss of life (thank you, Cenk) if people don’t go to shelters: Please consider less of the shelter disclaimers. You’re over-balancing on being fair to non-shelter sources. If you talk about uncertainties of shelter adoption, will you at least add a few words on the temperamental problems that come with puppies from puppymills?

. . . Am I in a progressive bubble of finding it absurd to go out and purchase a dog from a store?

Overall, THANK YOU for giving shelters a plug. I’m sure a lot of those poor huskies are headed for shelters anyway. Where they will die if no one gives them a home. I’m glad to have you folks taking time on air to advocate shelters, and the dogs & cats are grateful as well.

  7. People can be moronic when picking a dog.

Shar Peis – were the “cool” too wrinkled puppies in the 80’s … they are essentially farm & guarding type dogs, and not for the faint of heart. Same with Akitas!

Fraser – Eddie the dog (Jack Russell terrier) was originally dumped in a pound as a crazy, untrainable, uncontrollable mess. JRTs are NOT apartment dogs!!!
JRs in other movies, cute, but they are stubborn terriers!

101 Dalmatians … besides being a high energy breed they have higher instances of deafness, etc.

Border Collie – the movie “Babe” … one of the smartest breeds out there, and they will destroy your life if you think they are a couch-potato.

Australian Shepherds – also a “movie dog” and the merles are beautiful & flashy, but only slightly less driven than Border Collies.

Now it’s the Husky’s turn, and I bet Malamutes or other Arctic breeds have the same issue. Huskies are breed to run and run and run and run and run. So lying on your couch all day, everyday, sounds like a recipe for disaster.
And like the other breeds I mentioned, besides exercise & training, I haven’t even toughed on the hair!

Every breed that is in a popular movie and later the AKC admits, and then showcases, seems to get over-bred & then overrun in shelters. I remember very vocal groups of JRT & Australian Shepherd lovers who NEVER wanted AKC to accept them.

I’ve been volunteering for Aussie rescue in Michigan for about 10yrs.
People get a cute pup, don’t want to train it or they say things like, “He’s sweet, but I don’t have time.”
Or they want to breed them and they think they can cash in on a trend. The fact that when you breed a merle to another merle color, you get blind, deaf or both in the pups.

All end up in shelters or abandoned. I imagine GOT is also responsible for the increase in wolf/dog hybrids. Though illegal in most states, breeders get around it by calling them Native American Indian Dogs. That is a whole different level of crazy as these hybrids can be very dangerous.

    Well, enough of a rant.
Bottom line is do your research before getting a dog.
Or if you don’t want to do that … get a cat.

  8. To Jayar’s comments about: where are the good apples – a lot of time, they’re fired. My mother was a police officer for a good part of my childhood, but she was pushed out of the department after: she was pulling over and arresting fellow officers who were driving drunk, she openly questioned and pointed out the distasteful behavior and abuse of Latinx and African American people, and openly spoke against other officers for ignoring and disparaging rape victims – even going so far as to push to take cases away from them that they wanted to disregard, and then – worst of all – she scored higher on the Sergeant’s exam than any of the men taking the test. She was told blatantly that they couldn’t have a female Sergeant.

She didn’t give up because of the insults and lack of movement on her attempts to better the department and hold other officers accountable, but she was eventually forced out – and she was forced out when she had to take some time off and make up extra shifts while my little brother was undergoing radiation therapy. They told her no more days, no switching shifts, no nothing and she could either leave the department or not be with her young son while he was undergoing radiation treatment. She chose my brother.

My mother, who proudly served as an officer, is one of the most open critics of police departments, terrible training, and abuse by police officers I know. Unfortunately, the city in which she served didn’t care to pay any attention to her complaints of corruption and abuse and the chief was one of the main perpetrators. This, sadly, is the same story a lot of really great cops end up with. You have people in power who weed out the good apples asap, leaving us with a lot of bad apples and a training, recruiting, and internal enforcement system run by them.

    1. Thank you for sharing your mother’s story. That is heartbreaking. Your mother sounds like an amazing woman and we all owe her a debt of gratitude.

  9. All children should be tested so we can know to protect them from different diseases that they’re susceptible to, but then the children can have school projects were they learn about their DNA, expose them to interesting science, have them write an essay about their ancestry and share with the class (expose kids to cultures before they learn to be racist).

  10. We have 11 Siberian Huskies, ranging from 4 months to 9 years. 7 of them are “home made” Before me make puppies the parents are tested(eyes and hips)
Even before GOT Siberians were common to see wanting new homes, they need physical stimulation or they will become noisy and get way too much energy.

  11. Here in Norway I usually have to wait a week or maybe two to get an appointment with my GP, if it’s more acute, you can usually get an appointment on the day, but it will entail the possibility of waiting for quite some time in the waiting room. If you need specialty consulting like X-ray, ultrasound, MRI etc. There can be up to 3 month waiting period. But of course, you always have the option of simply paying for it at a private clinic.
If you go through the medical system an MRI will only cost you a few 100 NOK(maybe $40)

Also, the Dog DNA tests are not reliable. people have tested them, pure breed dogs come out as all kinds of stuff, and mix breeds they know exactly what breeds are made up of coming back as totally different mixes.
The fact that they know what type and color hair the dog has, has nothing to do with how they try and figure out the mix of breeds. The genes for hair color etc are well known, but not the same as the ones that supposedly show breed mixes.

  12. It would be interesting to see John Oliver on TYT.
I use to like him, when he was first post-Daily Show.
But he has become a HUGE corporate shill he misrepresented & made fun of Bernie & Jill Stein non-stop.
    I can’t stomach him now.
Every anti-establishment rant from him rings false to me.
Same with Trevor Noah … Daily Show is unwatchable.
Same with Bill Maher … “Real” Time? Not even close.

Jon Stewart got out at the right time.
Ironically, he preserved his integrity by staying mostly out of the limelight.

    1. Agree about Jon Oliver and Bill Maher, and don’t forget Rachel Maddow — she did not merely tell lies about Bernie during the primaries, but she used her show as an active agent of deceit on behalf of the Clinton Dirty Tricks Campaign. Whole segments were nothing more than contrived propaganda on behalf of HRC, slandering Bernie with fictional stage-acting (see her show from the night before the Nevada caucus).

Haven’t noticed Trevor Noah going down that route yet, but admittedly I don’t watch him that often.

  13. Dogs were created through artificial selection. Knowing the breed or mix of breeds tells you what kind of care and activity it needs. Picking one at random is a recipe for continued failure.

  14. You guys really need to do DNA testing. You have control over what is shared with research companies beyond the testing, or even what you share with other members. 23andMe has a special on right now (I am not a stockholder and make no $)…
I was an adoptee 50 yrs ago. I found and verified my parentage, discovered I am half Finnish, and found TWO RELATIVES in ESTONIA (whom I have now met)!
    DO IT!
Hook up with Prof Henry Gates of Finding Your Roots (and CeCe Moore), and do one of his shows together!

  15. I love TYT. I try to watch every day. If I can’t watch all 2 hours I always watch what you put in YouTube. But, I’m writing this comment because my cat is also named Kiki Cenk!

    DB

  16. Suggest that the County Sheriff of Harris County and all the Officers including those that investigated the incident should be given a through ‘digital rectal probing’ to determine if they are full of ****.

    All ayes please copy

  17. i wonder which company Ana used for her dog DNA test! Most of the ones I’ve heard of don’t seem to be that accurate (describing how the dog looks) in fact there’s some that request a picture of your dog…. Ya… ’cause that’s not shady at all. But I know someone who has a mixed breed, they knew the mother was 100% purebred Saint Bernard. Their pup looks just like one but with long legs. DNA test came back with 0% Saint Bernard… Well that was obviously fake!

As far as adopting from a shelter goes, I totally agree, for anyone that just wants a family pet, the shelter is the way to go. I’m lucky, where I live there aren’t any kill shelters, they only put dogs down if the dog is too sick or injured to have a quality of life in the future. If a dog isn’t getting any interest, they’ll transfer them to another shelter or rescue that has a higher demand for that type of dog. I got my dog from a breeder because I needed a dog with a very specific temperament and skillset. He’s a working dog (training as a service dog to assist with Autism and Psych disabilities) so I needed to know his genetic history, and health in order to guarantee a long and healthy working career. But unless you need a very specific type of dog, for a very specific job, or need to know the dog’s history and can’t risk reactivity say around small children, there’s no reason not to go to a shelter or rescue. But you can be pro-shelter without being anti-breeder, because responsible breeders will never let their pups end up in a shelter. If the family can’t keep it for whatever reason, it should always go back to the breeder. I’d question any breeder that doesn’t do that!

  18. Me and my girlfriend both did ’23 and me’.
They succesfully identified a genetic marker which I had confirmed by hospital test years earlier.
Also, my girlfriend had a familial relationship identified with her first cousin, who also took the test.
Not too mention all the other things that are obvious like hair etc….

They’re pretty accurate… but some things they give a lower confidence rating…

So I’m very positive on the accuracy of the service.

  19. I’m usually not the type that gets queasy looking at videos, but I was seriously and emotionally shocked by this video. It is absolutely unfathomable that such a thing would happen in a first world country in 2017. Non-consensual digital penetration is RAPE. Plain and simple. Thanks for bringing this story to light.

  20. The reason why dog breeds matter is the same reason why those huskies end up in shelters. A dog is not just a dog. I’m not talking about size or looks, I’m talking about behavior and needs. When you consider buying a dog, you need to think about what you can offer the dog.

To use huskies as an example: while some people might find their look intimidating, they are not good guard dogs. They are friendly, lively and energetic dogs that need a lot of exercise. Their fur needs little care, but during shedding season (twice a year) they shed a LOT. They are hunting dogs that, if they go loose, will chase and kill their prey if they get the chance. In fact, they have such an extreme prey drive that they’re considered uncorrectable when it comes to training them to be okay around sheep, even with extreme means.

Is it any wonder these dogs end up in shelters? They’re NOT the kind of dog that works well in an average family.

    1. Good point but I feel like huskies are strong outliers behaviorally in comparison to most breeds, in that they are among a select few exceptions to a more general rule of domestication ease in dogs.

    2. Also, dog breeds matter because we treat animals like commodities and since we purchase dogs, like a designer handbags, we want to know it’s pedigree for bragging rights or affiliations (not for behavioral insight). In the end, a dog is just a dog (like a human is just a human regardless of race, even though different races and different cultures hold certain psychological and genetic attributes. ) Dog breeding is an unregulated industry that results in MILLIONS of dogs euthanized because of our denial of our participation in it.

      1. I agree that huskies are pretty extreme, due to their strong prey drive. There are quite a few other rather special breeds too, and then a bunch what you’d call in the middle.

Where I live, most people have purebred dogs, and we don’t have the same time of shelter problem as in America, so I really see why breeds are so important. Every new dog owner gets encouraged to look into breeds and their traits, and most breeders have one, maybe two litters a year. Their bitches live either at home or they’re co-owned and live with another family in the area, because they can obviously not have unlimited litters. They will only be registered with the kennel club if they follow certain requirements, and the breed club sometimes have more requirements when it comes to health testing.

Things that matter when choosing a dog, to increase the chances that the dog ends up in its forever home right from the start size, strength and grooming requirements are the ones tied to appearance, and they are important too. Then comes prey drive, guard ability, likeliness to bark. Exercise requirements, mental exercise requirements, difficulty of training, independence, playfulness, energy level. You also have things like how likely it is to get a dog that gets along with other pets, unfamiliar dogs, children, and if they’re reserved or outgoing to strangers. A lot of these things can be trained, but the ease and likeliness of success differs from breed to breed.

Breeds make it easier to find the right home for the right dog.

  21. I did the same exact thing with my shelter dog. He was just so different looking I just had to know what was in him. Ana your not alone ?

  22. Cenk, those genetic testing as far as heritage goes is EXTREMELY inaccurate. They tested identical triplets and it said they all had completely different nationalities. As far as possible genetic disorders goes and likelihood of diseases and cancer you may have, then they have some accuracy.

  23. When did sexual harassment or hate speech that creates a hostile work environment become simply an allowable opinion covered by the first amendment? We can’t and should police people’s thoughts but verbally harassing people in the workplace used to be illegal. Did I miss something here?

  24. Always stunned to find people who can defend officer actions when they are clearly illegal. We need law and order in this America, but we can’t have it when there are dirty cops on the street and prosecutors willing to protect them.

  25. The non emergency phone number for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is: (713) 221-6000

In case anyone wants to tell them that their police officers shouldn’t be raping young women on the side of the road

    Oh and here’s their email… webmaster@sheriff.hctx.net
And direct line to Internal Affairs… 713-274-5003
