  1. I agree with Cenk… I am no scientist, but it is surprising to hear a scientist say this is not related to global warming. If the climate is changing, wouldn’t it be the case that EVERYTHING is related to global warming?? A direct cause and effect is impossible to prove as of course there are other factors, but it is annoying to hear that the scientific community is indeed split on this issue as now that will just feed FOX as they point at alarmist liberals, unfortunately.

    1. It sounds odd, but the scientists are right even if Cenk is sorta right too. To put it simply, the changes that have occurred the last 10-20 years–including a pretty spectacular break like this–are not above the “natural range of disturbance” if that makes sense. So the event can be considered a normal, but just less frequent event, and doesn’t require climate warming/change to explain it. Therefore, impossible to really say it is attributable to climate change unless you start seeing those events increase over time [which of course everyone is expecting we will, especially the scientists]. and impossible to say it isn’t–it’s just not enough of a data set in itself. There are so many climate cycles that affect shorter-term and longer term changes; the scientists are comparing to things like ice cores with records tens of thousands of years old, which would represent “natural background conditions” during this [normally interglacial?] period. Hope that makes sense.

  2. Climate change is real and must be ingrained in our youth as well as future generations. I have recently published a novel, “REBEL: Are You Brave Enough to Join?” using an Action/Adventure Sci-Fi Political thriller, to engage them. I love what Bernie Sanders and The Young Turks do to bring the issues to the forefront, but unfortunately, these young groups are not listening. Hope to meet with some of you at POLITICON this year. I would love to pass on a copy of my novel to those of you that interested in reading it.

  3. Another issue of the ice shelf breaking and permafrost melting are the diseases that will be released. Viruses and bacterias can be locked in ice and melting will release them back into the environment. Small pox, bubonic plague, deadly flu aside, think about the viruses from 100’s of billions ago that if released nothing on earth would have an immunity to? Sorry to make climate change suck even worse….article below

      1. I get your meaning, but let’s just note than neither the Earth nor the entire universe are 100’s of billions of years old.

        1. Double damn! I meant to correct with 10’s of billions of years ago. Sorry I had to correct my correction, thanks for pointing it out

  4. Want the thank the TYT network and Cenk and John from the bottom of my heart on this particular show. It was such a relief not to hear hours and hours of the Donald Junior ad nauseum on cable news. You focused on the policy issues I really care about and spent just enough time on the Jr interview to point out what we need to know about it. I’m so tired of the cable news commentators being one trick ponies following the shiny objects dangled in front of them. Thank you for talking about the real possibility that the Republicans will repeal and displace the ACA. And, especially about the tax plan which is Welfare for the Rich, and encouraging Revolution for the Rest of Us.

  5. It’s not just conservatives… the DNC has been attacking the messenger for nearly a year now. After loving Wikileaks in the Bush years now they are public enemy #1.

  6. Are you crazy? There is a total amount of 14 ( think?) hours left of first-time watching new game of thrones episodes in my life. I’m not going to share that with others. that’s blasphemy.

  7. Y’all need some better resolution on yr graphics. Almost everything with small text (e.g. around 10 mins in) is illegible…

  8. Im not sure why Cenk specifically went on a tangent about lobbyists being objectified. The other sexual harassment complaints were perfectly valid, but sexually harassing lobbyists? SERIOUSLY?!

Lobbyists may be human, but they aren’t people. They’re more like financial/political succubi. If a politician is talking about how they were charmed by a lobbyist, that’s not harassment. That’s a gleaming performance review. If the superior of the lobbyist heard that, they would be very happy and send her that way regularly.

Those politicians whore themselves out to lobbyists regularly, and lobbyists reciprocate. Its a two way street, and its gross, but dont pretend that lobbyists are respectable or deserve respectable boundaries. Their job is to charm their marks, and they are well briefed on the mannerisms of their marks ahead of time.

  9. If Cenk once again makes the annual mistake of needlessly referencing Game of Thrones spoilers every TYT episode as though everyone else on earth tunes in at HBO airtime (an ironic mistake for a guy who runs a VoD web show), I will cancel my membership on the first offense. I don’t watch the main show to catch up on GoT. Just saying!

  10. Cenk, saying that Russia lies “somewhere in between” Al Qaeda and Canada is silly and just plain wrong. Firstly, we are at war with Al Qaeda, who are named specifically in the infamous AUMF (which is about as close to a Declaration of War that Congress can get nowadays).

    Secondly, what about this?
“New Zealand PM Funneled $13.7 In Taxpayer Money To Hillary Clinton”
    http://yournewswire.com/new-zealand-taxpayer-hillary-clinton/

Do you think NZ wanted something from a possible Clinton Administration? What about all the other “donors” who disappeared once she lost the election? Isn’t the collapse of theClinton Foundation donor base post-election a sure sign that ALL those countries and leaders who gave were trying to get something by helping the Clintons?

  11. I love Cenk, he’s an intelligent person and even when I don’t agree with his point I can often respect his rational behind it…however the misogyny can get questionably. I can tell he’s trying to learn but there are some things that you are born without experience in or a profound understanding of. I don’t need him to totally change his opinions I just would like for him to acknowledge that this is an issue he is NOT an expert on and therefore his opinions are skewed. He doesn’t seem to truly deeply believe that, which is when I get annoyed.

    1. I agree. Time and time again Cenk has completely missed the mark regarding misogyny and sexism. A while back they ran a story about a mens university sports team that made online lists regarding female players and he was all NAH LOCKER ROOM TALK and Ana looked SO uncomfortable. As a female viewer it was just shit to hear. He has no concept of how historically academic institutions which barred women for a long time continue to create a hostile environment for women through crap like that. It goes right over his head. He’d rather dismiss it as locker room talk and as a dude he really just doesn’t get it. For a million other reasons I love Cenk too but looking up nude photos as Kim K. is a “part of your job”? Get outta here. Rolled my eyes so hard when he said that.

      1. As progressive as TYT is, it is strange that there is this awareness of sexism in terms of policy and institutional forces, but then the culture itself at TYT still seems to reflect patriarchy more often than feels comfortable… like Cenk having as much or more to say about sexism’s effects on a story than Ana, for example, or the fact that Jimmy regularly says, “pussy” or “grow some balls.” Frankly, I think we see that more from the middle aged “young” turks than we see from John, for example.

I’d say the same thing about racism: I hate when Cenk does ethnic voices. Of course regarding sexism and racism, the INSTITUTIONAL barriers are paramount and we must keep the focus on POLICIES – there are certainly worse things than jokes and stupid voices – but I still don’t think they are funny and I think Cenk is better than that. I will be the first to say that being “progressive” doesn’t simply mean paying lip service to a political correctness, for sure. Still, being a progressive means fighting all forms of injustice and working towards solutions, both on a macro and micro scale, starting with oneself.

  12. “Inchoate” means not yet fully developed or not yet brought to completion. Thus, a zygote might be called an inchoate embryo, or an embryo an inchoate person, and there exist “inchoate crimes”. I found this definition online:

“An inchoate offense, preliminary crime, or inchoate crime is a crime of preparing for or seeking to commit another crime. The most common example of an inchoate offense is ‘attempt’ .”

So, do Trump, Jr’s., actions not constitute SOME kind of “inchoate crime”, with admitted “intent”? I am not a lawyer, but I DO understand (from a lay standpoint at least) the meanings of these three words!

  13. The Republicans’ $40 tax cut for the poor is a poignant reminder of all those Reagan Democrats (i.e. traitors to the progressive cause) in 1980 who voted for their tiny income tax cut only to get a whopping FICA tax increase later. I recall Democrats running around parroting the same tired old canards about welfare queens and abortionists that pervade the AM spectrum, and actually believing that they knew what they were talking about.

The rich whip up bigotry constantly to get people hooked on the daily anger fix. The rich exploit that carefully cultivated altered state of awareness to appeal to people’s greed with a pittance of a tax cut. In that altered state of mind, people become so greedy and gullible that they actually believe that the rich are doing them a favor with that tiny bribe in exchange for mass redistribution of wealth to the top.

Progressives need to find their passion.

The right wing masters passion. Bigotry is an adrenaline trip that makes voters more suggestible. Republicans not only project their bigotry on the left (e.g. Black Lives Matter is racist) to distract attention from their own bigotry, but also to prevent the left from laying claim to their own passion.

Until the left learns to connect with the endocrine system, progressives are going to end up face-down in the mud every time.

  14. The correct quote from Sanford & Son is..”I’m coming to join you Elizabeth!” Weezy is George Jefferson’s wife…LOL

  15. Help me understand this, please. They had to invoke cloture – which was unanimous…then the nomination went though…97-0…not to mention, David Nye was nominated by Obama last year…where is the obstructionism regarding this nominee???

  16. Republicans will not get upset about global warming until the “Larsen E” ice shelf breaks off.

  17. 37:00 I got that Email (I don’t know why) I filled in Anti-Trump answers on all, and Filled in one field, I think it was a top issue for you, “We NEED Single Payer Universal Healthcare for ALL!”
    Fuck Trump, #Bernie2020

  18. The limerick: Two rhyming lines of three anapests (da da DUM) each.
Followed by two rhyming lines of two anapests each.
A final three-anapest line, rhyming with the first line. (additional syllables permitted in the final line)
Slang and filth are generally encouraged in the limerick tradition, as is “fractured syntax”.
(I know these things because I write limericks.)

      1. Requested by “VoltaMovement”:

        ONAN

Remember the tale of young Onan?
(And the sin he was far from alone in?)
        Just imagine his plight,
        To be FRIED ‘midst delight,
His hand having played with his own in!!!

        OR (SLANG VERSION):

Leave lines one, two, and three as is, and change the last two lines to:

        At the height of delight,
To be fried to a crisp just for BONIN’!!!

      2. I know you requested only one, but here’s a bonus limerick for you anyway:

        “GINA”

A tranny from Chile named “Gina”,
To flaunt her new “forma divina”,
        Skipped ‘cross the high Andes
        (In only her scanties!)
Singin’ “EAT ya’ heart OUT, ArgenTINA!!!

    1. (continuation of my prior note:) It is also acceptable to substitute occasional iambic feet (da DUM) — or even occasional single stressed syllables (DUM) — for anapestic feet (da da DUM) in a limerick. And it is acceptable to add an unstressed syllable to the final anapest of a line

Thus, for example, “A lesbian once in Khartoum” begins with the iamb, “a LES”, and “There once was a man from Nantucket”, both begins with an iamb (“there ONCE”) and concludes with an extra unstressed syllable (“et” at the end of the phrase, “from nan TUCK et”).

An example of a single stressed syllable taking the place of an anapest might be “Once, on a trip to Peru,” which starts with the stressed word “ONCE”.

      You’re welcome!

      1. Simply wonderful! I (and I am sure many others) would encourage you to post a limerick a day in the first hour comments. It lifted my spirits after the funk I was in just imagining the consequences resulting from passage of the tax reform and “Repeal and Replace” the ACA. Thank you so much!

        1. Oh, “drdan”, I can’t promise you a limerick every day, but thanks very much for your approving comment. If you wish to suggest a topic about which you would like someone to “limericize”, however, I shall be happy to attempt at least to oblige you. (I cannot absolutely promise rapid delivery, regrettably.)

  19. I haven’t seen video in days. It stick in the intro & stays that way. So I reckon it’s like an internet radio show.
    Oh boy.

      1. Yep, speaking from experience, fur on the face helps in -30.
BTW I hope this slow download speed is a protest or something, cause an hour to download through broadband cable is unacceptable, even for a Canadian ;-)
