Wes’ last appearance on TYT :( hope he gets better/goes back to being himself.
I saw Wes’s rant on FB. I found out that he has PTSD and think he’s going through a thing. I’m really worried about him hope he comes to his senses. I would have no idea how to begin to approach that situation.
If not for a comment in a TYT Hour 1 August entry from a poster, I would have never known about Wes Clark Jr.’s descent into madness.
I’m one of the rare few who doesn’t live on social media so this whole episode flew right past me.
Last I remember I saw Wes & Jimmy Dore doing an episode of Old School in late May.
Had no idea he switched out so suddenly within a couple of months!
It felt like just yesterday I saw his Host Bio on the About Menu & after learning about this episode I check & sure enough it’s gone.
I checked his Twitter feed & he seemed relatively collected in May & even early June.
Occasional posts here & there talking about positive things.
Then you get a small taste of what’s to come in late June but nothing TOO alarming.
You could chalk it up to his reclaiming of religion for that.
By July, you’re starting to see more intensity but even here the red flags don’t go up quite yet.
Mid-July, he’s slipping FAST!
And after that it’s a downhill slope.
He always seemed like an intense edgy guy since I have seen him on TYT.
I thought it was just his personality & didn’t judge him negatively for it.
People are different.
They say what happened in Standing Rock did something to him.
And I originally thought it was ultimately a positive experience with his forgiveness ceremony with the Natives.
But obviously something traumatic happened or something triggered the trauma within Wes.
Because it’s so hard to believe he would go 180° like this on Cenk when he has known him for around 15 years.
I really hope this levels out & I hope the crew at TYT forgives him.
Because I don’t like to see friends & colleagues go out like this.
It’s sad.

This shit is why I fly Southwest.
I am a millennial that is mixed on the whole “screens everywhere” thing. On the one hand, I can ignore them pretty easily on the other hand that doesn’t mean I agree with them being there. I actually really dislike that they are being put in more and more places and I do agree, adding sound is taking it too far. While I personally might be able to tune it out and just think with time everyone can the implications of it (and how they might end up in the future) aren’t great
They keep mentioning mesothelioma as if it is something that occurs due to old age. Mesothelioma is a cancer that occurs due to asbestos exposure. It doesn’t happen to just anyone.
Super late reply since I am catching up… but you are both right and wrong. Yes, it’s due to asbestos but it a) takes a really long time to develop and b) was a super popular thing to use many years ago. The joke is essentially that whether or not they know it people of a certain generation were highly exposed to asbestos because they didn’t know until recently that it caused cancer. No, it doesn’t just happen to anyone but it’s highly like to happen to people of their age group. The joke is not about old age the joke is about people their age getting old…
Cancer from asbestos develops for the most part in people who were occupationally exposed or lived near factories or mines. That’s why in the commercial for asbestos attorneys the mesothelioma victim says, “in my factory the asbestos fell like snow,” as opposed to having a person who says, “the asbestos remained undisturbed in my popcorn ceiling for 30 years.” I can totally understand why the men on the panel would be concerned if they had at one time been factory workers, but that seems unlikely.
Many houses people live in today that were built in the 70’s at which time asbestos was used regularly in homes still. That said, if one can develop mesothelioma by just having asbestos in one’s home it is not unique to their generation. I was born in 1985 and for the good majority of my life I have lived in homes built in the 1970’s.
I used to work for a law firm that had an asbestos division that exclusively handled asbestos. I didn’t work on those cases myself but it was obvious that the plaintiffs had distinct occupational exposures.
I just thought it was a strange thing for them to be worrying about. Maybe they don’t know they likely aren’t at risk.
TALKING ABOUT MOVIES\TV = BORING AS SH*T
PLEASE STOP. PLEASE DON’T. WE COULDN’T CARE LESS.
Yeah you can fuck off, you don’t have to watch Old School if you can’t get it.
TYPICAL VACUOUS PERSON WHO LOVES MOVIES AND TV & IDOLIZES THESE TALENTLESS ENTERTAINERS (CLOWNS) CALLED CELEBRITIES LIKE THEY ARE YOUR GOD OR SOMETHING. WHAT A PATHETIC EXISTENCE. LISTEN TO CHRIS HEDGES LECTURE ABOUT CELEBRITY CULTURE & YOU’LL GET MANY REFERENCES TO YOURSELF THERE.
Sounds like someone needs their NIAGEN…bitch.
ur right i’m waiting for my shipment got caught out empty
Oh… I get it now you are a troll that attempts to sound intellectual…. well yawn I am moving on. Enjoy spending money each month so you can throw out nonsense comments *thumbs up*
sometimes i troll yes. when i’m angry about the content. i couldn’t care less about their celebrity/movie bs. i haven’t turned on a tv in 10 years.
I care a great deal actually… maybe old school is simply not for you?
Old School is about the hosts shootin’ the shit. They talk about their lives and their interests. That’s the essence of Old School. Discussions of politics and the like are more the odd man out for this podcast.
I think it’s safe to say that a lot of us are here to just watch them talk assorted nonsense. It’s a show about nothing and that’s what makes it great.
Mark mentioned Guam! We flew coach from Guam to Florida and it wasn’t that bad. We also flew coach from Florida to Japan with a stop in Texas and also wasn’t that bad and we took Continental.
I’m with Wes on The Handmaiden’s Tale. Can’t. Not at this point in history.
Ben, for my part, that is exactly the case regarding background noise and things like that.
I couldn’t care less about any of it.
Yeah, I’m a milennial and screens constantly distract me if they’re around. I hate places that do this, so I don’t think this is a generational thing.
Random question: Anyone know who the band that does the opening song is? It kind of sounds like buck o nine but all of the 90s ska-punk bands for the most part, sound exactly the same.
Google has not been helpful, and I cant quite pickituppickituppickitup.
It was a local (now probably nonexistent) Ska band from the time of Cenk’s first public access show (“the Young Turk”), supposedly they made it for him because they watched his show and liked it. I think he’s said the name on previous episodes but since it was the 90s there probably isn’t much or any of their stuff online anyway
I really love the theme/opening song of Old School too! I believe the name of the band is mentioned in a movie about Cenk and the Young Turks called “Mad As Hell”. It’s a good movie!
Is it just me or is our unregulated capitalist system the elephant in the room that is not discussed?
it’s not just you. this is why i listen to Richard Wolff’s podcast. economics professor that has studied both the systems in depth.
actually he is on youtube.
This was an excellent combo. These Old Schools have been on fire even without Cenk.
I highly recommend that movie “It Came At Night”. As nerve-racking as it is, and Ben described it very well, it’s an entertaining rush!
Also, I’m with Wes. Those goddamn gas station telescreens are an assault on my sanity, and I’m a millennial. I’m already getting fucked at the pump, and you wanna sell me some garbage while you do it? Christ!
Can you please fix the old school link please?
Old School is consistently the best content on TYT.
Oh – Garner’s hurt his knee – remember, he came back with the limp?
Great discussion – James Garner is my heart throb from his first show to his Maverick Role – next, moving anywhere makes us all refugees, um, let’s stay and fight back while we can – Ben is so right, in most other countries, TVs in check out lines – everywhere – you tune out or you go mad – main reason I wont attend a major sporting event – unless it’s a box – first class of sports – let’s just make it good for EVERYONE – please
Fun show–liked this group and I love Mark’s laugh!
Rockford Files is one the best shows ever made. I watch it commercial free on Hulu.
TYT Old School uploaded the day after and not a week later?? WHAT IS THIS!?
I was reading this comment and busted out laughing at work! WHAT IS THIS!
Flying will get a lot worse before it gets better. People will be so irritated that fights will break out in the air so many times that changes will be made and things will be even worse.
Traveling by land, as it gets faster, will eventually cause some airlines to go out of business. When everyone in a car can sleep, people would rather travel in their cars.
Finally! Great guests on Old School.
Does Ben personally know Robert Mueller? Calling him Bob.
It’s expensive to be poor.
That is so fucking true about how the first class passengers don’t look at you when you are boarding a plane. Godammit that burns me up.
WHERE’S CENK!?!
Here are the ingredients of a 10/10 Old School episode:
1. Both Ben AND Cenk MUST be present!!
2. Conversation should be 90% interesting bullshit; i.e. epipha-food, overrated/underrated/rated etc.
3. The episode should be at least 90 minutes long, preferably 120 minutes long.
This episode was still good.
LOL! 100% agree!
The justice system and tax policy, in refrence to disparities, is more to say. Most Americans don’t fly for business, so the sample is too small. We all must pay taxes and obey the law; less we’ve the wealth to tilt things in our favor.
We have to stop talking bad about our country men and women; it may look and feel as though you are striking at something foreign or non relevant, but your really just throwing shit at yourself and calling it a fare fight. We need a party that appeals to Americans who need jobs or careers, while at the same time abiding to human decency and the rights of all Americans. #NoRacialPolitics
Great group.
“I don’t like to see trailers…here let me ruin this movie for you.”
I always like seeing these three.
To be honest, no one here is pronouncing Mankiewicz correctly.
Hahahah
Flew couch from Baltimore to Melbourne, Australia. I have cerebral palsy and chronic leg pain. I didn’t sleep at all I’m surprised I didn’t die during the layover I had and the insane amount of walking through LAX. The final steps through the Melbourne airport were the most difficult I have ever taken by far. I love to travel but airlines and disability sucks.
1 – Wes is the sexiest man alive.
2 – I forgot because I was thinking about how sexy Wes is.
Hey, Theresa!
I like how Ben opines about how the set should look serious but slightly different than a standard TV set… as he drinks water out of a giant wine glass.
I had a thought: wouldn’t Old School look cool if they were all sitting in leather chairs. Old School is a more relaxed type of affair. And I don’t think it would be that hard to do either. Move the desk out of the way, put a rug down, 3-4 leather chairs and a couple side tables (or one large cocktail table in the center), and that’s it.
Food for thought…..
I had that same thought a couple weeks ago–just have them all sitting in comfortable chairs!
