At this present time The White House has Cancer, all the presidents people making up excuses for not answering serious question by action and word is equivalent to justify a reason for the president to eat unhealthy and smoke while undergoing treatment. it doesn’t work, time has shown Mr. Trump has an issue with blow back and he has only himself to blame, it’s the Trump style, he can’t answer now as if it’s a weekly tv show well all these distractions and diversions are a hindrance to the country.

    1. Even then, it doesn’t make sense. And he seems to be conflating median with mean… median rent for a 1 bedroom in LA, per Zumper’s May 2017 numbers, is $2090. (Which is insane, but the highest median and mean rent in the country are and will continue to be San Francisco. )
      What really bothers me in this segment is that they don’t acknowledge the nuance of MarketWatch’s wage charting. They break down american wages by hourly compensation, because hours per pay period and per annum dramatically exceed the standard of full time at 40 hours a week. I am an example of this phenomenon; if I worked 40 hours per week all year, I would make $23.08/hour. But as a salaried employee, I work closer to 50 hours a week for no additional compensation, which means I’m making about $18.40/hour. That’s why annual earnings reports seem sunnier than hourly reporting.

      1. Your description of how you are being totally scammed by taking salary instead of hourly is exactly why I always refuse to be salary. When they know that they actually have to compensate you 50% more to work on a saturday, or work for 12 hours on a Monday, they think twice before asking you to.   20. I agree that they didn’t do justice to the great expanse of median rent costs across the country. However, I have literally never heard of rent so low as $325. (Maybe in Nebraska or somewhere underpopulated) I would be interested to know what state you’re in.

    In my experience, anywhere between 600 and 2000 could be reasonably expected in most cities across the country. Around 800 is normal in Phoenix and Dallas but in Denver it’s at least 1200 for a 2 bedroom. And that would be a killer deal. I feel your talk of 325 is as much of an outlier as the 11000 rent.

    I would argue that a $12 national minimum wage would be just and doable, particularly in states that need workers because no one wants to live there. Plus it is the bare minimum to keep up with cost of living-monetary devaluation disparity that plagues the average American. Studies showing that higher wages improve living conditions and stimulates the economy only serves to reinforce my assertion.

  27. When I first heard about this 15$ min wage movement I laughed and laughed and thought to myself. If I was to get paid 15$ to work at a gas station, I’d going to quit my 25$ job and apply at a gas station and smoke pot all day long. But you guys are talking about 11,000$ a month for rent?

    Here is the problem with doubling the federal minimum. My rent is 325$ a month 2bed 1 bath. The state that you live in is scamming you, mine isn’t. I am all for minimum in California to go WAY up if what you say is true, but there are vast swaths of America where 15$ an hour to work at a gas station is absolute crazy bat-shit. Move out of LA and ride a commuter train into town or something.

    I gotta say that “maybe I’m living in an LA bubble” thing that Ana often mentions looks pretty real from where I’m sitting.

      That would lead to increased prosperity in exactly the portions of middle America that most desperately need the help. Unfortunately it would also mean that people on fixed incomes e.g. Social Security would be relegated to undesirable areas and subsidized housing, like they already are any way. So the safety net needs some bolstering also.

      You are seeing it backwards. Use supply and demand from the progressive perspective. The masses cannot very well just rob the rich, but they can inflate away the advantage of all that concentrated wealth has accumulated in the hands of a very few.

      Inflation is your friend, as long as you are getting a raise. Just ask the rich. They know all about it.

      1. Your point about the people living on a fixxed income is a good point that I have not heard anyone who talks about doubleing the minimum wage bring up before. I do disagree slightly with the relegated to slums part though. Social security is run pretty much like a ponzi scheme. Those on it are not being paid back the money that they paid in. The people who are working pay for it. So your point about doubleing the SS witholding is spot on.

        I am not so sure about your idea that the rich would stop getting richer though. Look at Trump’s budget. Whatever gain the middle class and poor would get from it would be stolen away to subsidize the rich. I would use the graph that was either in the first or second hour about how productivity has skyrocketed while wages for all but the mega-wealthy remained stagnant. I would argue that that is not soley because the minimum wage did not go up, but rather that the rich continuously double their own salaries. Doubling the fed min would have a short term impact, but until CEOs getting paid 600 million a year is put an end to, they will just give themselves 1.2 billion a year instead.

        I also am very certain that if the minimum wage was doubled, my salary would not be doubled. So, people in poverties lives would be better, until the price of everything doubles. The CEOs salaries would also be doubled though, and the middle class salaries would stay right where it is, while the price of everything doubled, driving us down into poverty. I fail to see how this plan doesn’t just make even more of a wage gap.

        I am refering to your final sentance that assumes that my wage would be doubled too. I simply do not believe that would happen under this plan. It sounds too much like a talking point for progressive politicians to “get out the vote”

        1. Well there is some element of resistance from the wealthy.. The point is, anything that tips the scales toward the bottom helps. You do not hear rich people saying they won’t raise their own salaries because the poor would just agitate for a higher minimum wage
