I am actually sickened and disgusted that you guys think “most likely to be a terrorist” is no big deal. I am seriously considering canceling my membership for that. You owe that little girl an apology and you should be ashamed of yourselves. It’s not a joke and it’s gross to think it is. This and then what two days ago you guys thought it was good a person got a slap on the wrist for sharing naked pictures of someone without their permission. Excuse my french but what the fuck is wrong with you
Just as an added note I don’t say consider canceling my membership lightly. I have disagreed with many things from TYT and never considered it before. Likely I won’t but I am so beyond disappointed with you guys right now
Just FYI, pigeons do not eat each other’s toes. They get amputated from getting entangled in string, human hair, etc when they try to use it for their nests. It’s basically a tourniquet.
Pigeons are adaptable. I have never seen them eating each other toes. Compared to humans they are way and above in cleanliness and they don’t hurt anyone.
I like to call them air-rats.
Hated and loved for the very same reasons as rats. Super smart and able to live among us and from our waste.
Pigeon breeding has been an aristocratic hobby of historic importance:

Also thabks SueAnne for calling out Ben on the B&J thing. They’re actually giving a shit about social issues. You’re talking about it and its big on social media, so that’s more than Ben does sitting in his fancy armchair. *cough* Oh, I mean high horse.
Regarding the award story: I find it extremely disconcerting that the impact of this type of treatment of a minor from a superior was so minimized by the entire panel. Generally, when I find myself in disagreement with TYT I can usually understand your perspectives, but here I simply cannot. The normalization of the systemic psychological abuse of minority and underprivileged youth harkens a misstep in justice and a lack of the compassion required to teach young people.
I read an article on The Root detailing a similar instance at THE SAME SCHOOL. The black student received the award “Most Likely To Blend In With White People”. We ignored the categorization of this girl as a terrorist (with no reasoning, btw) and now we have unabashed racism that is chocked up to a shit sense of humor instead of holding this teacher accountable.
And TYT, my progressive sanctuary, didn’t give ample attention to the lasting damage caused by this type of behavior. I am upset that not only did the entire panel completely disregard the implications that arise through behavior that essentially discredits a student’s importance and contribution to a collective, can trigger feelings of unworthiness and depression, and is absolutely fucking inappropriate by stating she just had a bad sense of humor. NO. This is psychological and emotional abuse, these students do not deserve to be alienated or undervalued. I feel that, and correct me if I’m wrong, each person on the panel today didn’t struggle in school. You were probably never called stupid by a teacher or felt like a failure in 3rd grade because you were told you weren’t allowed to do times tables on your fingers. I was. I still struggle with self worth. This teacher should be fired and lose her license. Period.
This will impact these students for the rest of their lives. It’s scarring and TYT failed miserably on this story.
I hate to be this bitch, but your privelege is showing.
Also, gummies in ice cream is a crime, sprinkles are delicious, and why would you mix ice cream? Really though.
The Australian Senate did not decide to not support marriage equality, they rejected the loaded measure from the current conservative government to make the issue a divisive non-binding referendum that Australia would vote on. The current government can change to law at any time to allow marriage equality just as the previous conservative government in 1999 amended the marriage law to specifically restrict it to between only 1 woman and 1 man.
The national referendum is a stalling campaign by a socially regressive government to provide public campaign funds to the churches to make the no case while not copping flak from their right wing base for legislating it.
The Australian Senate overwhelmingly supports marriage equality, they just like the majority of Australians (and the majority of the Australian gay community) don’t think we should waste all these public funds setting up a non-binding divisive campaign when the Government can just change the law in a heartbeat (like they did in the past when they restricted gay marriage).
So what will it take to get marriage equality in Australia, and how long do you expect it to take? I’m assuming you’re Australian, or you at least know more than me on Aussie politics.
Yeah, I’m Australian.
If the conservatives parties are re-elected to be able to form a majority in 2018/19 (looking v unlikely) it might be 5+ years away. If the opposition parties are elected to majority then we should have it by 2018/19. It rough because power is less distributed than in the American representative system and we have no bill of rights (hence no way to do it through the courts).
The senate yes or no’s legislation, like the US, but ours can’t write any. The Lower House which is very non-representative of Australia, like your House, is very powerful legislatively but here they also elect the Prime Minister (and every other minister). So the only way we’ll get marriage equality in the near future is to hope that next time the parties on the left win enough small local races to be able to form a majority. The system is intentionally fucked.
great explanation. I wasn’t aware of how legislation was done there. I learned something new today, thanks.
RE: Border wall story.
Texan here! Just wanted to emphasize a point that has really been brought up. I’ve seen a few times now where a host has mentioned that some Americans would be on the Mexican side of the “border”. It’s actually worse than that. The border itself, obviously, wouldn’t change. It’d still be America on the other side of the wall before the actual border.
BUT, this does give further proof how useless a wall would be. Since you can’t stop Americans from crossing the wall to get to America (as long as it’s public property), you’d HAVE to give people an area to pass through the wall (kinda against the whole point of building it in the first place….)
It wasn’t Radio Shack being unable to make a profit having five employees in a store whilst selling items for 73 cents.
It was realizing you could get your widget for 73 cents online rather than paying their ridiculous mark-ups.
When it came to a brick and mortar store selling cables, cords, and connectors at decent prices, there really was no where else except Radio Shack. For those items, anyway, the mark-up was always very small. There’s no more Radio Shacks in my area, and even Walmart charges around $20 for their cheapest HDMI cable, let alone the $50 ones at Best Buy, when online they’re just a couple of bucks, and not much more back when Radio Shack was around. I can’t attest to your experiences at your local Radio Shack, but my experience was always the same as Ben’s and the rest of the panels: they had everything you needed for your gadgets and electronics, and it was always priced extremely competitively. Then they started trying to sell cell phones and not much else in an incredibly crowded market, with prices that weren’t competitive and terrible marketing. They went out of business because no one in the entire world ever said “I need a new cell phone, so I’m going to go to Radio Shack”.
most likely to kill (presumably americans/westerners) civilians to achieve a political goal. seems reasonable in a climate where incidents of islamophobia violence/bullying in schools/everywhere are at record highs.
cant wait for next year’s awards: most likely to rape, most likely to murder, most likely to become a fascist.
you don’t have to lose your mind over this, but it’s definitely not some, ‘oh, these kids need to toughen up!’, shit.
“most likely to become a fascist.”
This reply has nothing to do with the excellent point you make, its instead a bad attempt at a joke commenting on the sad state of affairs. In Donald Trump’s America, being a fascist may be considered a positive thing by many. =(
I am very surprised that the panel wasn’t more outraged over the terrorist award the teacher submitted. That is disgusting and is a very serious issue. The teacher should be removed from her position, she’s obviously not fit to teach kids at all. Disappointed with the panels views on this one.
I agree. I mean I don’t think the teacher actually believed the student would become a terrorist, which I guess is why they’re all so blasé, because there’s no serious malice involved, but it’s still a horrible and potentially damaging thing to tell a 12-year-old. All those awards are horrible things for a theoretically responsible adult to tell 12-year-olds. From other 12-year-olds, sure, I’d demand an apology and otherwise give a pass, but not a teacher. If they’re not going to fire her, I’d say she at least needs some sort of negative consequence or re-education in how to be an educator.
At a point in your life when you’re just beginning to work out your hopes and dreams, some teacher who thinks they’re hilarious goes and tells you garbage like you’re going to be homeless? I worshipped my teachers in 7th grade. I would’ve been devastated. I wouldn’t say that stuff to any 12-year-old, let alone one I had some degree of responsibility for.
I’m totally with you there. I was completely shocked, jaw-dropped when I heard the story, then to have Ana say its no big deal? Ask that little girl if it was a big deal to her! I would have been mortified if I were in her shoes, I probably would have been crying at home and dreading having to go back to face my peers. Middle School is an incredibly awkward and painful time for many kids. Teachers should be there to help and support their students during these rough years, not bully and tease them. That girl gets enough mocking from the other children in school as it is, she definitely doesn’t need it from a person in a place of power that she’s supposed to trust. I’m sure that girl’s trust was completely shattered from that “award”. I’d consider this a monumental fuck-up by that teacher, it shows piss-poor judgement if she thinks that’s funny, and a slap on the wrist won’t change that, she needs to be terminated from her position. I’m sure there were more than one student emotionally scarred from this event. My heart goes out to those students.
I agree. The teacher was bullying the students and setting them up for continued bullying by other students. The reaction and comments by this panel were stunning in their ignorance. Not the first time though…
In regards to Australia’s referendum on same sex marriage it was actually the greens and labor
( our demarcats) and LGBT groups that blocked the proposal because given that all polls have agreement with SSM as over 70 percent, it seemed insane to instead allow a parlimebtay vote that would clearly pass, to instead spend millions of tax payer dollars on a campaign that would have groups like the Austrlaian Christian lobby spend millions of tax payer and church dollars on ad campaigns that told people that children are in danger if we allow this bill to pass. Since it is already legal for same sex couples to adopt or have children in this country, the damage this may to do children of these families seeing it night after night was not worth the possibly positive outcome, especially since at this point we all know it’s ehat the majority want and it will happen eventually.
Sue-Ann is awesome! Please bring her on again =)
I have to respectfully disagree with Ana. Middle school students tend to be very insecure and are struggling with friendships as they enter puberty. It may be funny as kids get older, but many middle school kids are struggling with self confidence and trying to figure out where they fit in. I have a sixth grader who struggles with self confidence and this would have been devastating. They care way too much about what other people and kids think at this age. I don’t think it needs to be a national incident, but I think a quiet discussion with the teacher would be fine. I still remember a teacher when I was in the middle of 8th grade at a new school bringing me to the front of the class to make fun of my sweatshirt. I was not an edgy kid and never spoke out or got in trouble. I was quiet and shy sitting in toward the back of the class hoping not to be noticed. It was just a boring old sweatshirt and not worth mention. He thought he was funny but he was just one more person picking on a new kid to get a laugh out of the “popular” kids. On the upside as an adult I know this is stupid, but at the time it was humiliating.
I find the teachers “awards”very disturbing . this girl was too young to get humor from this. This teacher needs counselling!!!
Jesus Ana. The ignorance you’re spouting about ketamine. If you can’t be bothered to do a little research about something just don’t talk about it. Lots of people thinking ketamine is a fun drug to do. There’s nothing wrong with doing it responsibly and they aren’t all “dirty”. Cmon guys…
Wow, I guess some people are really touchy about their ketamine. I’m sure Ana didn’t mean to offend you with her shocking ignorance on horse tranquilizers.
Ketamine isn’t just used for horses, it is also used in sedating children for medical procedures that require complete sedation to be done but don’t take long to perform. Its effects are short lived, usually lasting no more than 30 minutes and has no lingering side effects. The aspect of the drug that makes it appeal to recreational drug users is that in smaller doses than required for complete sedation it produces very similar effects of an LSD trip but instead of the 12 hours or more for the effects of to wear off from taking it, ketamine only requires about 30 to 45 minutes of your time. If you plan to attempt such an exercise, please don’t do it alone and preferably with someone with medical training.
Ketamine depresses respiration when taken in doses required for sedation. Hallucinations or delerium are common and can manifest up to 24 hours later. Taking it recreationally is dangerous.
Thanks to TYT to acknowledging pigeons. Also this:

For a real game of pigeon ping pong
Pigeons are awesome, and yes Ana, people still breed to a standard. Breeding racing, fancy, or acrobatic pigeons is a sport mostly dominated by men and especially popular in the Middle East. Google some fancy pigeons Ana :)
Back in the 70’s, my Spanish teacher gave me an award one year. I was called “The Least Studious.” And it was the dumbest mimeographed award, but also very fitting. You see, I was already very fluent in Spanish (Mexican, really, this was Texas,) and Italian (and I had many Mexican friends.) I didn’t want or need that class but was told I had to take it for two years to get the credits I needed to get into college. And after getting the required courses completed sufficiently, I took Spanish for two more years because it was an easy A for me, though I did have to do a little homework (pre-internet, ) because were getting into conversational scenarios including how to speak with doctors and lawyers.
So I consider those hours in that classroom a waste of my time. Even almost 30 years later.
I LOVE It’s Okay to be Smart! Fandoms collide!
You can watch members only full hours on YouTube after the live steam?
Yes, members have access to the archives. It’s great when you want to revisit stuff and want to avoid YouTube ads and such.
Pidgeon video was the best! Davewhoknowsaboutpigeonvisionandlearning
I think the the teachers awards were disgusting and if I was one of the kids in 7th grade who was picked on and had no friends I know I would have been devastated
In regards to the teacher handing out “awards”: if she had done this to high schoolers I feel it would have been seen like she wanted to, which was a roast. Like I know seventh graders are still teens, but they are young teens and their sense of humor is still innocent.
So many people are whining about the uploads.
Look at the times on Hour One and Two. They were likely submitted at the exact same time, but because Hour Two is half as long as Hour One, it was there first. It’s not a big deal.
Buffalo is exactly like Laredo. A huge chunk of our retail is funded by Canadian shoppers and every time they make it harder to cross the border (we used to just need our driver’s licenses, now we need passports or “enhanced” licenses) it hurts us here.
Now we have hour 2 before hour 1? Come on guys get organized. We’re paying customers here.
It’s kind of weird watching hour 2 before hour one… please upload in order
Hour 1 is not up.
Don’t worry it’s always on YouTube first. Been like that for years.
